- Long time viewers know, I have an interesting relationship with stocker trout... I think they taste like crap, they can be frustrating when they don't bite, and they make good catfish bait... And maybe pike bait? We shall see.. Fun little midday sash at the good ol' pay lake, on a lure I rarely use. Enjoy. PAAA POWWW!!!

I ate 2... And they weren't totally chitty. Last time I'll say it.
Thanks for baring with me stache bags. Slow start to the season, but we will get on something good eventually. ❤️
I have to apologize, the likes were at 69..... I made it 70. My bad
Great video as usual !! Can't wait for spawn season !!!! And the big kitty's that will come with the warmer weather. Keep making videos and I'll keep watching. Edit : I like the 6th sense is jacket too!!
I am having a slow start too..hopefully, we have an awesome year! Good luck and tight lines!!
Haven’t caught a single fish in the past week but makes me happy seeing other people hook into some
Did you talk to dad yet about the monsters cats he just caught te other day???? Cause i smell a monster kitty cat video with you boo and youtube dad lol
Trout to me is best tasting when you wrap them in foil with butter and lemon pepper. Pretty tasty.
Yes
I left out, cooked on the grill. oops!
You couldn't pay me to eat trout lol yuck lol I love to fish for them but eat oh no lol
Can’t believe he uses trout as catfish bait😂
@@gregoryforge3153 Trout is really good
Bleed your trout just after you catch them. That will improve the flavor greatly.
True that. I've found that draining the blood improves the flavor of most types of fish. Growing up as an avid mullet fisherman, we learned to bleed the mullet, which dramatically sweetens the meat and reduces that slimy fish taste. Also, try an overnight soak of fresh fillets in salt water in the fridge.
Great catch . You and Boo should each make a lure at home and see who catches the most fish . 👍😃😃
Agreed!
The ones up here in Maine we catch are bigger and taste really good. And they are in larger lakes and streams. Them have been Eating trout pellets there whole life so might taste different
Yeah they don't taste that great fresh out the truck, Maine stopped using liver pellets because people wouldn't eat them and complained.
That " Oh no. He got off... How'd that happen " moment had me laughing hard!
We used corn for stocker trout in the north Georgia mountains. Try wrapping them in foil with butter, some salt and pepper with lemon and onions👍🐟
That’s about as basic as it gets.
Add some beer in there tastes great
Should of been "what's going on you dirty old Stash Tags" but that's just imo
Next time you go out to the stocked pond, take a fly rod... It’ll be great fun!
We call those "Cuttbows" (Cutthroat/Rainbow hybrids) here in the PNW.
Same in Colorado
@Zane Johnson what part of the Pacific northwest are you from? I am from Arlington WA Snohomish county
@@WitkowskisFishingSickness I live in Forks, WA.
@@zmj0hns0n Brush Prairie, WA down North of Vancouver, I guess stache man has a lot of fans in the PNW
Its not one tho... just a planter rainbow.. they get that color on belly and bottom from the concrete in the holding pens
Those stockers are called cutbows. Cutthroat rainbow hybrids.
Why don't you move the bucket closer you're making me tired. Ha ha.
Had to get my steps in for the week 😂
Lol I’ve done the same many times
Haha I was thinking same thing
A good way to hold your spot by the bench lol
When I'm fishing for stocked trout I usually use a pickerel rig powerbait corn shrimp worms for bait on one rod and a rooster tail lure on the other one if I'm not fly fishing
I always put out a powerbait pole 1st for stockers then I go casting with spinners or little lures, sometimes the suspending broken lures
I went fishing for the first time this season yesterday. Caught three bass at this farm pond. The first two were decent sized prolly a pound or just over a pound but the last one was a dink. Felt really good to finally catch something
Panther Martins are the Lamborghini of inline spinners. Little Cleos and Super Dupers are big time on trout ponds in WV. And trout magnets 4ft below a float with a piece of mealworm on them. Thats all you need to know and things. PaPow!
Lil cleo ...great north eastern river spoon. ...when u said u never catch anything on a cleo I knew ur luck was about to change !!!
Ya same with me a blue silver Cleo was dynamite for splake
Gold with the blaze orange stripe 🔥
Come fish with me in about 3 weeks Josh! Mid Missouri creek fishing. The bass start running up river to spawn when the water gets just a little warmer. There is a window of about a week and a half where if you know where to go on creeks with the right culverts and the water is moving enough... you catch big smallies... every... stinking... cast. Like more fun even than that bass lake you found the mess on last spring. Road trip it down, I’m covid vaccinated, got an extra bedroom, and I even am a trained videographer so can shoot for ya lol.
Love those tiny little Panther Martins.
It’s my favorite lure lol
My favorite is the black and greenish/yellow dots and gold blade.. not the smallest size but the size in the middle.. can’t think of the size to save my life though but I know it when I see it. The black one works very good in any color of water for trout all year round. And I’ve used that for over 20 years here in Western North Carolina!
That and yellow powerbait (either already balled up or entire container) is all I ever use for trout. Just says “yellow” on the container.
Never had a problem with Panther Martins or Rooster Tails. If you carry the white/silver bumblebee and a firetiger in 1/4 oz you can literally catch anything out of anywhere. I've more bass, walleye and trout on those than anything else by far.
Gold panther , or the mepps with the dressed hook are my gotos
I wish I could catch trout but I'm in Central NC, I wonder how far I'd have to drive to get to some rainbow trout.
IK they have some places in West Virginia where they stalk them
I use rainbows for catfish here in WV and it works like a charm. Not sure why it works so well in the river where there are no trout, but godspeed!
It's probably the oil in the flesh leaves a good scent trail.
I use panther martens all the time, ive found the smallest you ever want to go is size 4, unless its a shallow stream lakes 4 more likley 6
I fish #1’s on 2 pound test in small mountain streams, when you’re fishing a stream where the biggest trout might be 9” long you gotta match their food.
@@michaelbrajkovich1999 100% right that’s how I started 30yrs ago
In Illinois they stock 53 ponds in the spring and a gain in the fall. 80,000 pounds twice a year. Every third year they cycle the breeders through. I have caught
5 #ers . Ive seen 10 #ers. On that third year they average 18" to 22" I caught my first ever surprise trout, bass fishing. It was 23" the next year I got my first trout stamp.
Small clear bobber followed by a mini white floating fly about 2 ft behind it. Reel it in slowly and keep it on the surface. It’s fly fishing for uncoordinated people. Can’t beat top water action. *Staschmasters*
You and Ben are the best fishing youtubers ever.👍😀
Trout fishing is my jam, they are great eating if prepared right, I like to fillet them and grill them in butter and garlic or put them on the smoker, just remember the pinker the meat the better
Maybe a thought for you, soak fillets in milk to extract some of the "pond" flavor........
It's cheaper to grab some of them pond weeds and make some salad . Them trout are nasty .
They get fed pellets like dog food . Makes them taste like shit .
FUK YEAH! THE STASH MASTER IS BAAAACK!!!! WHERE YOU BEEN BUDDY!?!? I used to watch your videos all the time a year or so back and been Seeing Ty(pigpatrol) lately and been wondering where you were at these days!? Nice to see you back on YT buddy!!!👍👏👏😁😁💯✌
Trootstache ! He pays for his troot!!! I just caught a 10 pound steelhead in the grand river in harperfield Ohio. We got monster browns and steelhead and the Walter heads n perch on fire as well. And gigantic muskies as well !
Tim if he came to Ohio and caught steelhead once he would be addicted! You know the tug is the drug
Great video. We have a small pond here with stock rainbows and browns. Get a ultra light rod with 4lb test. I use a 4’ 6” for trout. The light line lets the small panther martins cast out better. You could also try a fly rod. Keep up the great videos.
panther martins are my go-to in the northwest for trout. especially in streams for the brookies and rainbows. the blades seem to spin easier under lower speeds.
Crazy seeing fishing styles from different states. In Southern California they stock 1-12 pound rainbows. What we use is 1/32 ounce mini jigs.
In OR we have stocked up to 15 lbs. Last fall i got my PB insize 3 times in one day and number each day for 3 days straight. But too cold here, still, too. There was snow by the shore where we went yesterday
Good to see I am not the only one having a slow start to the season.
Stocker color can vary based on what strain they are, most in the US are Colorado strain, and also what kind of pellets they use at the hatchery can affect em too. Just plain rainbows can have cutty slashes, varies for each individual fish. That’s why trout are so sick there’s so many variations of the same ones.
What is that a steelhead?!!??. Super funny commentary. Had me in stitches 🤣😂🤣😂😳🤣😂🤣😂
Small floating rapalas work great for trout I use them on open parts of the ausable river caught some monster native browns on em👍
Up north around verdigree there are trout yr round. You're right about the ultralight....its a lot of fun. Keep the vids coming, we ll keep watching!!
Something to consider while targeting trout is a lighter line. When fishing trout lakes and rivers I seemed to have better success on really really light mono. Cool video and look forward to see what’s coming.
Woo hoo trout fishing!!!! Haven’t heard “stache-fam” in awhile. It’s a catchall
If you come down to Arkansas again, the spring river has some 10 lb rainbows now. Also some monster browns. Specifically in the Mammoth Springs area.
I'm so ready for trout fishing! April 3th is our spring stocking. I can only keep 5 trout a day though. Love the video man!
You should try hooking into a king salmon. You wanna talk about a fing they'll wear you out and strip the gears right out of your reels
The toothy fish hunt is cool, but you've caught monster flatheads, maybe target a massive blue cat next?
Look at that shoutout! They put a bunch of tanks in that same lake we fished this last fall. Caught 8 of them over 4lbs all the same day on the Merthiolate Flash Provoke.
I recomend a mepps spinner that is red and black. Number 2 or 3 for larger Trout. I caught one recently on the Huron River.
Something uniquely fun about catching stocker trout on metal baits. And I'm a match the hatch fly-fisher.
That's a true rainbow it's getting it mating colors coming in they get much more coloerfull when it's baby making time the mails get some interesting looking spots
Were you jealous of Dad's Big Ol Blue Kitty video? I wanna see you and dad go for some true monster kitties 😸👍
I have a few lakes near me in Colorado stocked with Tiger Muskie. Hit me up. We can't use trout as bait, but they'll hit large shiners and big lures. One of those lakes has bass, crappie, white bass, and kitty's too. Channel kittys are bigger out here than other states as well. At least our record is.
They dump several truck loads of trout here at boyd lake loveland usual catch them by boat dock seem to stay around where they got dumped in higher elevation colder water makes the meat pink and tastes better than mushy ones I use rainbow garlic balls.
Don't know if these trout taste any different, but most hatchery trout that I have caught tasted like Purina fish food... The ones I saw in the old swimming holes would swim in circles in the middle of the pools...
Next time try a sliding clear water bobber with a swivel and about a 4foot 4 or 6 lb leader with a fly and you can pinch the barb. Fill clear flot with water and cast then reel real slow and you catch fish left and right. Have fun.
Hey Josh, when are you gonna up here to Wisconsin and fish for some monster Brown Trout, Rainbows and Lake Trout? We get monster Kings on bobbers in Fall up here in the harbors too! It’s a blast!
Howdy Bud, try using the whole trout magnet or just powerboat dough on the bottom. Orange garlic or chartreuse.
You need to come to
Ohio and catch 25-30” steelhead trout. You will be addicted they fight like freight trains.
Searun are even better.
Tail fin bigger than my hand
What part in Ohio buddy
@@fredymorales883 Lake Erie tribs. All have good runs of steelhead. I like chagrin river the best.
Thanks what month is the last time they run
That spot on the belly is a dye that shows it was raised in a hatchery! At least that’s how it is in North Carolina
candy vs stocker trout video lol It would be funny to see some gummy worm action
And twizler
Colored mini marshmellows work good
@@lagginswag I’ve heard that 😂
The Rapala f-4 has always been a great trout lure for me! If you get it try the blaze orange color
Ya I think he was pissed off because you were by him slaying them. The stash Slayer!!! Lol
Try using dried liver chunks on stocked trout because they are raised on liver pellets
To bad you don't have real trout like we have in Montana. Madison, Gallatin, and Yellowstone rivers. Great raft floats.
Or anywhere in the mountain west
Go to yanny park in Kearney Nebraska there is big stealhead in there and rainbows
If your interest walmart sells this micro floating lures the brand is called creme crank however they are ultralight rod and max 6lbs test
We have one stretch of river in Alabama they stock rainbows in and I love to fish it.
I live here in Arkansas. If you skin them then fry, they are much better tasting. Just bend the head back and pull like he'll to the tail. I like them fried with Zatarains fish fry.
I always take my rainbow trout that are smaller ones that aren't worth to eat. Usually the ones that choke the hook. I've caught bass and alot of bowfin of them. I always try for catfish and no luck yet
Outta-stache-ling here. Iowa-gan
Have used Panther golds a lot and have had good luck.
Haha 😂 this guy not only called me a stashe bag? But also has a minging gurt tasch just below his nose😆 subbed🕺
Always love your videos. I just kept thinking when he going to move the bucket closer so he doesn’t have to keep walking back and forth? 😂
Caught a 4 pound rainbow on my bait caster yesterday. was a hell of a run.
I hope tht nxt video involves dad😂😂and some cat fish!!
Trout up in the Colorado mountains taste super good! Think you need to make a comparison video...
I use that exact little cleo. It works wonders for pike
I live on a trout river in Mass... The biggins are fun to fight on light tackle.
Oh dang! Another video of stache patrol on the hunt...... alriiiiight
I don't know what you plan on using them to catch but I know they make great striper bait. They work best as live bait though. I guess I will just have to keep watching your video's to find out.😎
You should try a spoonbill snagging trip. I've never done it but always wanted to try it.
You need to come to Pennsylvania for trout fishing we have trout that weigh 3-5 pounds on average and they stock some in my area upwards of 7-10 pounds
Rainbows and browns are amazing for Pike/musky/and walleye
Get some krocodile lures, brass with orange stripe and silver with red or blue prism. All I use for trout unless I'm in a river
I caught a. 20in stocker out of a public pond. It was at least two pounds. Usually there 8 in. The smallest are 12 😂
See how many species you can catch with a simple, homemade lure.
Batter then pan/deep fry and you can make any fish taste amazing
i agree on the stocked trout taste. Damn fishmeal pellets they feed them leave the fish mushy, off color, and tasting like lake bottom. Takes almost a year for them to build up any good flavor, by then most of them are gone anyway. glad to have wild populations here.
Keep up the good work.
If there is flowing water and decent food supply only takes a month or so for the shorty dog food taste to leave them.
@@jamiedarr4114 im in ak, most stokers are in land locked lakes, the few stocked populations in the moving watersheds do end up tasting better sooner... i hadnt thought about it till now but your right.
It's illegal in Colorado to use game fish as bait but all the lakes here have them 😆 they just stocked the other day and i couldnt keep em off my line. Should do a Carolina rig with a 12inch leader u will find the bigger trout. Floating power eggs do the trick any color to. All i do is trout fish out here last yr id say i caught well over 200 trout
try a small spinner for those trout, or a trout fly 0n a fly rod. Fly rod fishing can be fun on with trout and pan fish.
Slow but watchable. Good show Stashman. Remember the B's of bait fishing. Bring Boo. She keeps you from rambling on to the camera and keeps you on your toes. You know ... trying not to get skunked by you ole' lady!
Stocker trout, in lakes especially, are heavily influenced by moon phase and barometric pressure.
Someone try fishing with a mice tail and green egg. Cut the pink ball off and hook the mouse tail then add the egg. Use with 2 feet of leader line and a bullet weight to keep her down. Works all day long in WA state. Let me know what you think.
If you go back pick up a cricket lure made by rebil green and black works best for big rainbows up here 👍
Pink/silver #3 Bluetfox vibrax spinners for trout. They work everywhere.
Do a challenge with different baits. I've used stall mini marshmallows, worms, flies and I've even used the trout bait in the jars at walmart.
I know out here in Idaho we catch so many we call them slime rockets, and like you feed them to the kitty's. That catfish kill whatever happened with that, is that normal? That was sad. That little slime rocket just looked like a hatchery fish to me but I could not really tell. Have fun!
Take us on a tour of Schram State Park Aquarium and ponds.
Trout season opened in Missouri March 1st. Never fished for them. On my list of skank fish. Eat one once at a restaurant. Puked for a week and lost 15 lbs.
Had fun watching you catching those trout
Always happy to see a notification from you
I never tried eating stocked trout until a week ago they were cutbows they were pretty good tasted similar to salmon. I'm not sure if that goes for all stocked trout or just the ones at that lake.
*Walks back and forth to bucket. Doesn't take the bucket with him*
