    I don't love how telegram is used, but it is our fundamental right to have encrypted private communications.

      Telegram isn't actually that encrypted. The only encryption is person to person(E2EE), and its turned off by default. Any group channel/open group is not encrypted and is full accessible by Telegram on their servers. Telegram has also let pedophiles run wild on the platform. Korean Nth Room had 260K people in it, and it was full of blackmail porn from all ages. Imagine as twitter account with 260K followers just freely posting child porn. Shit should have been shutdown long before it did.

    Sagaar starts with a good premise then says things that are erroneous. It's true that in Europe there is no equivalent to the first amendment but it doesn't mean there is no due process. Basically there are "hate speech laws" in place and you get judged according to those. In the case of France there is a law on "incitement to hatred, violence or discrimination" whether it's on the basis of religion, race, sex, sexuality etc. Also you don't get your citizenship removed just for such offenses. For that you need to be a binational who is essentially acting as a foreign agent against the interest of France on the behalf of your second nation. You can't have it removed if you only have french citizenship as well.
    Not saying I agree with laws policing freedom of opinion at all btw just giving some context and clarification.

      @zuriyel5368 17 днів тому

      Typical Sagaar L. I also like how he never mentioned that SCOTUS ruled that that the White House does have a right to censor people on social media.
      Moreover, the First Amendment only prevents Congress from changing or adding laws in regards to speech, congregation etc., it doesn't stop the Executive branch from doing anything.
      It's also important to look at cultural speech in addition to legal speech. Cancel culture is anti-free speech and it's been pretty prevalent in America. People lose their livelihoods as well as get shunned from society without facing repercussions from the legal system.

    6:32 Sagaar, once more, proving is utter ignorance and somewhat superiority complex when addressing other Nations: « in France, they can take your Citizenship away and put you in jail if they want to »: not only such provision doesn’t exist in France but Paul Durov (a French Citizen) was arrested as part of a long standing investigation (4 years!) which will result in charges being brought (or not) against him in total due process fashion. His Lawyers are assisting him during his interrogation, and, by the way, he didn’t exactly « flee » Russia: he visits his relatives there regularly and was awarded something like $100m when exiting his Russian startup…
    As to « what France/Europe has created lately » maybe planes (Airbus) that don’t crash (Boeing); Mars Rover camera systems; 3rd generation Nuclear plants (while the US is lagging behind); chief technology officers for Meta and Alphabet; Moderna technology… and on and on and on…
    On the substance, the Constitution - both in France and in the US - never guaranteed ABSOLUTE privacy rights but a protection against « unreasonable search and seizure ». This is what is at stake lately, not the Technology.

    Presumption of innocence was enshrined in French laws in August 1789, about a century before the US, but it does not exist there!? How ignorant do you have to be to make such a statement. Presumption of innocence does not mean that the authorities cannot detain you if they suspect that you may have committed a crime. Under French law, you can be detained for 24 hours (which can be prolonged twice in particular cases (murder, terrorism)). Beyond that point, you have to be either released or formally charged.

      Ok, but what do you think is right and just? Do you not feel in your heart free speech and the right to privacy are central human rights? I for one do and am willing to fight for it.

    • @lordblackwood6737

      @@JimmySaul888 What is 'right' and 'just' is subjective to different societies and different times. No I don't think free speech is a central human right. That's a laughable notion. Right to food, roof over one's head are far more central than free speech. Do you even know what you sound like. A religious fundamentalist. I can easily see a christian fundamentalist going "Do you not feel in your heart Jesus Christ is our lord and saviour? I for one do and am willing to fight for him."

      @@lordblackwood6737 I'm sorry you feel free speech as a human right is "laughable." Hopefully you never have an original idea outside the mainstream, otherwise you may end up in jail. As for comparing it to religion, THAT is a laughable notion. It in no way relies on supernatural thinking, only logic and an opinion of the facts. My stance on the topic is very old and better elucidated by the countless academics and philosophers over the centuries. I encourage you to read up and check places like China and North Korea as to what the end game looks like if this trajectory continues.

      he starts with a good premise then says things that are erroneous. You can't have it removed if you only have french citizenship. Not saying I agree with laws on freedom of opinion at all btw just giving some context and clarification.

    I know there's some lack of clarity about the charges. To the extent Durov's being held on charges of permitting other people to post, communicate, and coordinate, that means he's being charged by police for not being police. That's weird, unnecessary, & redundant.

      No there is not. The EU Constitution chapter on Free Speech has the words "expect and exception" more times than "freedom"

    • @Blafina
      @Blafina 17 днів тому

      It’s a fundamental right in the EU generally, but counties are very much sovereign still.
      Since I’m Dutch, I’ll just keep it at my country. Here’s the entire constitution:
      www.government.nl/binaries/government/documenten/reports/2019/02/28/the-constitution-of-the-kingdom-of-the-netherlands/WEB_119406_Grondwet_Koninkrijk_ENG.pdf
      It’s not as clear cut as in the US constitution, but free speech is very much included in multiple articles. The generally accepted free speech article is article 7.
      There is a saying that I read once that goes somewhat like this: In The Netherlands we talk about having freedom less, and instead enjoy it more.
