Made this for the first time, followed the directions exactly, came out gorgeous! The look and the taste were like from the Italian bakeries of my childhood in NY! Delicious! Can't believe I can make this now! Thank you Rossella! Love all your videos
My favorite pie! We purchased wheat berries from a farm in Cazenovia NY, and I make this every year - growing up, every bakery made this really good in our small Italian neighborhood. Now I make it myself - the bakeries are gone - it comes out almost as good! Thanks for the recipe - I will try this one today! saluto di Pasqua!
I absolutely love grain pie... trying to explain this dessert to non-Italians you always get some weird looks, but most people once they try it they understand lol... This and pizza rustica were the things I looked forward to most each year, thank you for sharing this
You prolly dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest movies on KaldroStream. I've been watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)
Rossella where are you? Let us know you’re OK it’s been a very very long time since you posted anything! Let us know that you’r Nonna and family and yourself are doing well. God bless you all.
This was a fabulous episode Rossella. I am looking for easter dishes & I must try to make this one. I hope one day you will come to AUS & maybe I can be one of your nonnas, cooking my mish mash LOL . I have 3 grand children. Thank you as always for sharing :)
marie Savino Thank you Marie. Where in Australia are you? There is a very small possibility that I may be in Melbourne and Sydney later in the year... but very small. Hey you never know!!!! :) Let me know how the Pastiera comes out!
Rossella, Hi...can I use Grano Cotta instead of the hulled wheat? If so, would I use a whole jar and would I need to add the butter? What's your opinion, I'd like to know! (sounds like an old commercial lol)
membernypd I believe you can. I imagine You would still add butter. But I haven't done it with this recipe so I can't guarantee the result! Do an experiment with the filling and replace it. But try it with the hulled wheat also so you can see the difference. It's very good! 😘
Oh I've made it with the hulled wheat!! (was trying to consolidate time. In other words, cheat!!) Ah, let me go with what I "sort of" know. I had a hard time finding the hulled wheat in Vegas...Staten Island LaBella probably has it. TG they're within walking distance :-) Thanks, as always...
Excellent recipe except you should use fior di'arancio or millefiori ( orange flower essence or 1000 flower essence) or orange blossom water. "The orange extract is an ok alternative if cannot find that where you live tho
I absolutely love her shows but for some reason it looks like you're not comfortable cooking. But I've tried more than enough of the recipes and they are all fantastic!
@@cookingwithnonna I make this every Christmas and Easter and use the orange blossom water, I found using 1 tablespoon works well because the orange blossom water is the Pastiera, without that it’s not true Pastiera. Good luck!
Hands down… BEST Easter pie ever made!!! ❤
Oh my that’s great/tears came to my eyes Nonna reminds me of my grandmother ♥️love this pie
I am going to make this! I used to watch my Nonna make this and sometimes my Mom. I learned to cook by watching them, I loved it :)

sacredsiren I know right. My god non-italians don't get Pastiera. At all
Rossella grazie per il tuo canale...
bello!!!supporto totale ad una coempaesana :)
I would grate the lemon zest for the dough for my Nonna as I watched her make this ♡
Shouldn't the grano be cooked with milk and butter and lemon peel until creamy?
You incorporate the flour in little by little. I can remember my grandmom doing it like it was yesterday. ❤
The best cake ever!♥️

What exactly does pastiera taste like ?
Delicious pie, my mother in law taught me to make this, but she always said Dovresti avere i capelli e non toccarli mentre sei in cucina
Very good

This Nonna is delicious!

Rossella, if I use Orange Blossom Water, would I use the same amount that you would use for the extract? Thanks
I've never used it but I imagine the flavor isn't as strong so you might need a tiny bit more.
ok
use 1 tbsp of orange blossom water for the pastiera.

I like Genero's version better.. with the candied peel yummmmm
looks good. a totally american girl of italian anc. doing a show about italian recipes-
Don't you cook your grano cotto in milk and butter to make it creamy first? I would think the wheat berries would be awful chewy, no?
diane sanzone nonna Gilda doesn't do that because she uses hulled (shelled) wheatBerries. The grain comes out very tender. Not chewy!
Ciao nonna Gilda sono napoletana anche io e conosco il tuo paese...Il mio cane ok ho adottato proprio li
Please put your hear in a bun or ponytail !
I would love to finish the video but the young lady talks way too loud. It hurts my ears.
