  • this time we have a sony wm-b18 , figuring out how to take it apart , replacing belts , and putting it back together
my name is Rene, from 1985 to 1999 I used to repair in and out of warranty cassette decks and walkmans for Kenwood, Yamaha , Pioneer, Sanyo and other brands and with the current increasing interest in analog audio, and cassette decks in particular, I started this channel to share tips and tricks that I have picked up over the years.
I will mostly do 'end-to-end' video's about repairing, servicing and adjusting the deck from beginning to end with a lot of talking , showing , tips etc and very little editing.
If you have any questions or particular video's you would like to see just reach out and maybe I can assist ?

I look forward to more videos from you to pick up new tricks from your previous career =) One suggestion for opening cases would be to use a plastic "spudger" to more gently pry the clips apart. (I prefer the triangle spudger). I am currently restoring a WM-F8 that has some playback noise. It was surprising to see how this later model was so much easier to disassemble and how minimal the circuit board was.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will look into those plastics but I normally find them a bit to weak / flexible ?

I have found the triangle spudger can pop clips with little force once you find the optimal angle while sliding it.

This is cool, I am quite young but I have always had a fascination with fixing old tech like this. Any good place to get old parts such as belts and maybe gears on the internet?

i just look up what i need on google and order it , most consumable parts (belts) are still readily available from somewhere

Good video squire, I must admit I did cringe while you were removing the Case but fair play to you because you got the job done, I ‘d definitely suggest looking into getting an iSesamo opening tool along with some plastic picks as you’re less likely to damage the plastics, Please don’t be offended by my comment as it’s meant in a positive way & keep up the good work! 🇬🇧

i was squirming as well ;-) i am not used to these plasticy clicked together walkmans , i prefer something with screws ! but we go there in the end
next time i will use the plastic tools

I have had 50/50 good experiences with this supplier , some belts are great , some are bad so test them and see if they work for you

      @@enzobomba3941 I used this one
      webspareparts.com
But it can be a bit of a mixed bag regarding quality , some belts are better than others so you may have to have a look on for example eBay as well
