Hey Josh, I recently came into possession of two good sized mini fridges. One worked just fine but the other was dead. I felt bad about throwing it out (pretty nice one) so after investigating the parts of the fridge I figured the problem was the thermostat (woman's intuition maybe) so I ordered one and using your video installed it. It is by no means the same fridge, part and even location in the fridge but you were thorough enough I got the main idea. I said a little prayer, plugged the unit in and turned it on. My dead mini fridge is ALIVE! Yay! Thanks for posting and sharing. Couldn't have done it without you.
Great stuff, thanks! For my Hotpoint, the end of the sensor was looped back and screwed to the back of the chiller plate on the inside back wall. So a few more screws to remove and a bit more wiggling of parts but basically the same job.
Hi, thanks for your comment. We are glad to hear that you found our video useful in fixing your fridge freezer, hopefully everything is working fine for you now!
I'm struggling to push the capillary in and it seems to bend a lot, is there a reason for this? also how to I know when it's far enough - it seems the one I have is too long.
Great video. My fridge is getting too cold even though I have the thermostat turned down to 1. The fridge is running constantly. Is it the thermostat that's faulty?
Check with a thermometer if you have one to confirm the temperature but if food and drinks are freezing it is definately below the running temperature (typically 1c to 3c). If this is the case the thermostat should have cut off, unless the fridge is in a very cold environment the fridge should not go below freezing.
Thanks for your comments Jan. It can be difficult and confusing to be able to check a thermostat has failed so sorry if we did not try to show this. In general a thermostat will either fail closed and continually freeze to a low temperature. Or fail open/stick when the appliance stops running and defrosts. Either of these would indicate a faulty thermostat would be the likely cause.
I have a question. I have a mini Danby Engergy star fridge/freezer combo. My question is can I install a thermostat sold by Danby for thier wine refrigerator to keep my fridge at 10- 18 C degrees/ 50-65 F degrees ? I want to make my mini fridge/ freezer have a wine fridge temperature. I need that specific temperature for making fermented vegetables like sauerkraut and kimchi. Because I live in a very hot climate.
In theory replacing the thermostat will then regulate the content to the new temperature correctly as long as the thermostat can handle the higher power of the larger fridge. In practise this is not likely to be a problem if the thermostat is of a similar construction. However obviously this is our opinion and we cannot gaurentee this. :-)
Hi Jillian, please follow the link to our webpage and put your model details in to get the correct thermostat for your frigidaire www.espares.co.uk/search/ma322pt1727/fridges-and-freezers/thermostats/frigidaire
I have a large chest freezer Proline and it does NOT get cold, doesnt even freeze up, could this be the thermostat? I can hear the compressor working well but no matter where i position the thermostat it does nothing, the temperature does not freeze its always warm. Is there anyway o could test the thermostat to knwo if its that or not, thanks.
Rosalind Toulson Most Mini fridges use a special semiconductor 'slab' that creates a Peltier effect and draws heat from one side to another. If the fan is running (if fitted) it indicates power is ok and the problem is likely to be the semiconductor and not repairable.
+Joe Peso If the thermostat is stuck closed then the compressor will continually run and over freeze. If the compressor does not stop then suspect the thermostat.
+Joe Peso The compressor should stop when the required temperature is reached. Turn the thermostat to minimum and if the temperature goes below 3 degrees in the fridge or below -18 in the freezer it would suggest a stuck thermostat.
No. the capillary is contains a little gas that contracts when the temperature changes to turn the thermostat off. Either re order the original thermostat or carefully coil the excess and tuck it into the housing. The tip must be in the corect position for it to operate correctly.
Thanks sir. Althought that doesn't seem to be my problem. Could you tell me ? It looks more like a faulty contact issue. The fridge doesn't produce any cold now. No sound comming from the inside, wich is like THE sign of a well fonctionning fridge, and the light is down. But when I play around the thermostat button, all comes back for a short time before it goes down again. I'm asking because I feel like the thermostat might not be the actual issue here. And I don't wanna change it for nothing. Thanks to anyone of you who might answer.
The contacts on these type of thermostats wear over time and often when the temperature is cold the thermostat will switch off but later when warm it will not switch back on. Often when this happens if you give a sharp tap on he knob the machine will bust into life until it cuts off again when cold. If this is the symptom it stands a very good chance a new thermostat will cure the problem.
Meeeh, like I said there is no cold now that could switch the thermostat off so ... Thing is, both the compressor and the light turn off a the exact same time. That should set pros like you on fire. What is it, in a refregirator, that handles both the light and the compressor ? Does it all come down to the thermostat ? Is it its role in the machine ? BTW This is the thermostat: "53040006. THERMOSTAT WPF25JEX". And if this is the problem, it's gonna cost me $60 to change it, wich is half the price of the whole thing. Don't you guys love the modern times ?
The thermostat will usually turn the light off if turned fully off so is still likely to be the problem. You can confirm this by using a meter to measure across the 'switching contacts' these should read short circuit if the thermostat is not in the 'switched off' position.
Hi George, if it has the controls on the right-hand side it usually has a screw holding it on so if it is not like the video check behind the lamp holder as it may be there.
Hi Bobby, if you have checked the fridge freezer and confirmed it is the thermostat then here is a link to the parts www.espares.co.uk/search/pt1727/fridges-and-freezers/thermostats
One connection will normally be connected to the metal body of the thermostat (the earth connection). You can confirm this with a meter on low resistance showing a connection to other metal work at the back. There will be another wire that connects directly to the power plug and another wire that connects to the compressor. These will be connected by the swithc in the thermostat when the thermostat is turned to the on position.
If the compressor at the back is running then the system should be cooling. This is unlikely to be happening, depending on model the most likely problem is a failed compressor and this is usually identified by the compressor making to quiet 'clicks' about ten seconds apart and then silence for a minute before repeating. If this is the case it can only be repaired by a refrigerator systems engineer as the system would need to be re-gassed after replacing the compressor.
I have got a westinghouse bar fridge which runs for 7 minutes and then turn off 7 mins. Switch on and off in short intervals. It's a 2 year old fridge. Could it be the thermostat problem? or any other reason? How can I find the reason? Thanks mate :)
Have you checked the fridge temperature?. If it is not cooling and it uses a thermostat then it is possible the thermostat could be faulty but it could also be the compressor if fitted is overheating due to a fault and may need replacing.
Hi Thanks for your reply.the fridge is cooling.however, because the cycles are too short, its freezer does not have time to become cold enough.i have bought this fridge for less than 2 years. Anyway, thanks
Hi Thanks for reply. I checked temperature and i think it's cool enough. Also, after 1.5 days, I managed to have ice by putting water in the freezer. From all these, I have figured that the compressor is working properly but the only problem is too short intervals between on and off. My fridge is a westinghouse bar fridge westinghouse wim1000wc There is nothing fancy about this fridge. I was thinking to make a short circuit in thermostat to make it work continuously.
Now I have looked up your model I can see it is a small fridge with an 'ice box'. The 'Ice box' on a simple fridge like this will not remain frozen if the fridge is not in a warm environment. The fridge should be in a kitchen with an average temperature above 50 F or the fridge does not have to run the compressor enough to keep the ice box frozen.
Hi Terry, we do not have access to wiring diagrams so if it,s not like the one in the video that you can use then hopefully somebody has taken a photo replacing theirs they can share but it may depend on your model.
Adrian Wilson If the motor is not running when it should I.E when warm in the fridge and a sharp tap to the control brings it back on then the stat may be sticking. If the compressor is running all the time but the evaporator is not cold then you may have another problem.
WARNING *** The first thing to do is to DISCONNECT the fridge from the mains supply. If you had not done this you would be toast, as you touched the mains supply inside the cover. :(
Joe Anthing Some Beko fridge freezers have a sensor fitted in the lining that cannot be replaced and a control board at the back in a pocket at the top. If you have a temperature problem replace the PCB as this often cures the problem, if it is the sensor you may not be able to repair the fault.:-(
eSpares Actually I found a good guide online, well a forum which states how to replace the sensor. You have to cut away some of the foam insulation which is under neath the PCB access panel. The part is £9 on eBay and only two wires to solder. Many people reported success by doing this.

Good video, thanks man. Power off first people, 240v hanging around in there.
Excellent! Taking the photo to remind you of how it goes, brilliant!!!
Hi elizaberth, thank you for the post and glad you liked the tip, our videos are full of them ☺
Very well done. Thank you very much for the post.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Glad you appreciated our video, and hope it has helped you to fit the thermostat in your fridge!
This video was incredibly helpful in replacing the thermostat in my Magic Chef mini-fridge. Thank you!
Thanks for the comments, remember to 'like’ the video if you enjoyed it or it helped.👍

The issue I’m having with my refrigerator is that the compressor is starting very well but nothing is freezing, could its thermostat be the problem ?
Excellent video. Thanks very much.
😊
Thanks for the demonstration.
You are welcome Samy.
Another great video ,thanks keep em coming
Thanks for the comments Malcolm.
Thanks good video and clear instructions
Thanks for the comments Bill, hope it helped you complete the job.

thank you it really helped me
Is the little plastic sleeve essential to be put onto the new thermostat? What role does it play?
Hi Balázs Farkas-Jenser, the sleeving is there so you know how far the capillary has to go into the cavity.
Good excellent job 👍
Hi jai andhra, thank you for your post and glad you enjoyed the video.
VERY GOOD JOB
:-)
The problem of having with my mini fridge that it's stays on too long or stay off to long I'm pretty sure that's the thermostat or the starter
What could be other reasons that my refrigerator is freezing the food?
Good demonstration (pitty you did not show a test if the old thermostaat was broken)

Goog idea to unplug appliance first don’t you think?????
i just repaired my thermostat had two loose wires also cleaned sensor coil fixed

Same as the one in video but Electrolux.
also when you put thermostat back be careful you are not squashing wires /sensor coil because obviously it won't go
The capillary tube from the thermostat should not easily crush but if bent sharply can crush and block.
