DONT GET GAVIN BRACES THIS EARLY. My friend is an orthodontist and he said that many of the people he sees who get braces before grade 6 usually need them back on. Their teeth are not fully developed and they will end up shifting back almost to original.

well, and this may sound bad, embarrassment is a way to get her to stop!
breaking a child's confidence and self-image is not okay. you should never purposefully embarrass a child. there are ways to do it without making her feel like crap about herself.
farijuanah emmi does not feel like crap ! you don't know her feelings! please, I know that embarrassment is the best way! yeah, she may not like it, but it's definitely not breaking her confidence or making her feel like crap AT ALL! so shoosh, I know what I'm talking about!
and you know her feelings? i never said that i did or that she does feel like crap. all i said was that it COULD possibly make her feel that way. i know what it was like for me when my mother embarrassed me when i was young. i still deal with it today and im 26 years old. she thought it would "toughen me up" but all it did was make me have issues. it can seriously hurt someone in the long run when a parent openly and blatantly hurts their child emotionally. i know that for a fact.
Shay!! STOP!! Don't get Gavin braces yet! Lots of ortho places trick parents by saying they need braces at a young age (ex: Gavin's age) and then they get them off for a year, then back on once they are in middle school. Which wastes money when you can just get them on in middle school which does the same thing just not a waste of money. Also for baby tards thumb problem, you can find a nail polish kind of stuff that you paint on your thumb nails, so when you lick it, it gives off a bad taste (it's non toxic)
I think Gavin should get them now because if you wait to get themn when you are older you have to have them for like 10 years and Gavin will pormbbley have them for 3 or more years

Mists orthodontists actually recommend doing it in two phases as it is easier or the teeth to move now as he is younger. I am 18 and just got mine on 3 months ago and I wish I got them a lots earlier.
If he does not have a cross bite I would not worry about getting his braces just yet. They try to make you think you need early intervention and make you believe they are crowding. What they fail to tell you is he just hit his grow spurt for his teeth. If his teeth are not slanted or adult teeth are not blocked I would def wait. I believe in the conservative approach and wait and see it nature works on its own. Definitely get a second opinion.

When I was her age I had the same thing, It wasn't anxiety it was just comfort

How much do braces cost is the US? I'm assuming you have to pay for them since you don't have a system like the NHS
They have insurance in the US. And past the age of 18, you have to pay for anything dentistry related on the NHS. Costs a LOT just to have a filling or a tooth removed, & if you haven't got that money you're screwed. I pay 'privately' - just a monthly fee on Denplan, I'm covered then if I need any treatment. You probably aren't old enough to look into that but worth remembering when you're 18+. It isn't too expensive either.
Laura Williams that's not true - I'm 18 and still get all my dentist treatment on the NHS. I think if you're in full time education it still counts.

Orthodontics ruined my face for one, they are not medical doctors and the profit margin is extremely high. Would you turn down 5 grand for one hour of your time a month?

I had braces for a total of 26 months. They aren't that bad! Just do as your orthodontist instructs you and you will be set! And ALWAYS wear your retainers! God bless & many prayers sent your way!
They should have done something to stop Emmi from sucking her thumb years ago!! I feel like she can't pronounce the "s" properly because of that and now she has problems with ther teeth. Shay and Collette are not hardcored enough to do that, they shouldn't even be getting her rewards for stop sucking her thumb, she's 6 now, not 3. I'm not hating on the Shaytards, just saying the truth. Emmi is an adorable girl :)

And 2. From someone who sucked her fingers until she was a teen, it does not matter how hard the parents are on the child, the child will only stop if he or she wants too. You can't force a child to stop something if they aren't willing too.
I sucked my thumb from birth until I was 11 or 10 years old... And I have no speech problems
I sucked my thumb for years. Often I didn't even notice I was doing it. I had a lisp too and needed braces, but it wasn't because of the thumb sucking. It was simply just the way my teeth came in. After I got my braces off, bye bye lisp. Babytard will be fine just like every other thumb sucker.
When Babytard started sucking her thumb the family didn't think I was such a big problem and they thought when she grew older she would stop. It's hard I wouldn't judge her I had that exact same problem.

We only see small parts of the Shaytards' day...and lately, that's been at night...when Brock is tired and going to be cranky. He's not been crying all that much at all (I watch daily, too, and I thought he was very patient waiting his turn while Emmi and Avia were doing back-flips). Maybe you don't know this, but verbal skills for boys are slower to develop, generally, than girls, and it can be easier to cry when you're upset and you haven't learned how to express yourself. (I have a son who has Asperger's.... Not that I think there's a damn thing wrong with Brock. lol! I just know how easy it is to pitch a fit when you don't know how to say what you mean.) Again. He's 4. In a house of five children. And he's little. It can be frustrating to be little. So cut him some slack. :)

i have a palatal expander, its not as bad as people say. i also have braces on the bottom and then in about a month im getting it off and then im getting top braces. i have the same thing as babytard. i have had my expander for 5 months. anyways love the shaytards and you inspire me with crossit and evrything and i wouldnt have made the track team if i didnt see your motivation :)

Emmi never put the thing on her thumb but she still got the elsa dress. But she should still try to do it because it will help her.
I have the same problem as Gavin, and i got braces at the age of 13 and PS they are a little painful for the first 3 days then you are fine.

I have braces now. I got them in August. Not that that bad. You usally eat soup and ice cream for 2-3 days after getting it and when tightened I at really sensitive to little touches but they don't hurt going on. Don't be worried
I have braces, they're not that bad don't worry x I just got "special" ones added at the back but yeah they're not bad x My orthedentiste is really good but I have a friend who didn't have a really good time when she got hers a few weeks ago, so make sure you have a good orthedentiste xxx

I have braces! Don`t worry, after you get them on it hurts for a little but after a while you barley even notice yyou even have them. Just brush them really well because, I had to take my front brackest off because I didn`t brush well enough. But just be perpared when you get them tightened/ and or put on take some iphrophen

I have braces for my 12 mm overbite then I'm getting fixed train tracks. They are not as horrible as it sounds and my overbite has gone from 12 to 3 in six months and I'm more than happy.my gap between my teeth at the front is terrible!!!

i had an expander for about 4 months and the first 3 days were SO PAINFUL but after a week or so i was able to eat however it was difficult to talk!! and no i have braces... at first i was excited but now i just wanna get rid of my braces!!!! about 1 1/2 years left

id rather go through a few years with braces and live the rest of my life with a perfect smile. I hope the kids went too mad about having them, i just got mine and I'm in high school, but its so worth it to have nice teeth for graduation! The kids shouldn't get them if they really don't want to, but they will be grateful! almost everyone gets them:)

I sucked my thumb until I was about Emmi's age too. My teeth are pretty straight and I surprisingly didn't need braces.. My mom would tape disgusting tasting things and popsicle sticks to my thumbs to make me stop and it worked! I would have Emmi try not to suck her thumb for 21 days since it takes 21 days to break/start a new habit. It's a long time but if I can do it, so can she!!
I had a pallette expander, rubber bands and braces and they suck. They're painful, they cut your mouth and you can't a lot of candies that are really good
