- This is a review of Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! (or Gateway to Glimmer in Europe) for the PS1. In this video we start the second part of our Spyro trilogy retrospective by taking a look at the second game released in the series. I played this game a ton as a kid, so let's see if it holds up after all this time!

autumn plains music is amazing, I've actually used it to get to sleep in the past.
It's so good isn't it! I just love Autumn Plains in general and the music is definitely a big part of that.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the boss music for Ripto. I think it fits perfectly, the opera singer really sells it as an epic final battle of hero vs villain.
Hmm... Yeah to be honest I don't even think it's a bad fit either. I must have been feeling particularly nitpicky that day or something. With a game this good I guess you have to be nitpicky though I suppose!
Edit: Wait, where do I even say that in the video? I just watched the bit about the last boss and I don't say anything about the music there so it's got to be in another bit!
@@PixelPursuit 14:03 This is where you said the final boss music didn't do the fight justice. You said it should've been more in your face, which I disagree with. Ripto is more of a drama queen with an edge since he's willing to kill and creates chaos in Avalar by creating the problems in the worlds either directly like the Tikis in Idol Springs or indirectly through Avalari taking advantage of all the focus being put on Ripto to attack other Avalari like the war between Zephyr and Breeze Harbor. So Ripto's boss music should be dramatic but not end of the world level, that's why the opera singer fits so well. Now if Ripto was like the Sorcerer from Shadow Legacy, then we should get Metal Gear Rising level music since he was an end of the world level villain. That's just how I feel about it, the music should match the tone of the villain.
Would have been nice if I had put the music in the video to illustrate my point better huh... Yeah I actually kinda disagree with what I said there too, I think the boss music is quite epic with the underlying fast paced melody that gets progressively more intense as it goes on and the singer works to add something unique to the track too. Listening to the track again now it's really good... I don't know what my problem with it was haha! The rest of the review still stands though (at least I hope it does!) :)
@@PixelPursuit Thanks for giving the track another chance, it's one of my favorite boss battle tracks ever. I'm also a fan of the Satyrs' bagpipes, but I can see why some don't like it. The review is still great, no need to worry about that. If you don't mind me saying so however, you seemed too rigid in the review. Almost like you want to show how passionate you are about Spyro but are holding back. If you love something don't be afraid to show it, after all Spyro fans are going to be the main viewers of Spyro game reviews. They love the game just like you do and will love to see your enthusiasm. I hope I didn't offend you, it wasn't my intention.
It is pretty great so I can see why you like it! I actually really like the bagpipes too, but it was too easy to make a joke about it haha! Yeah, I've actually never really been that confident in front of a camera (or doing voiceovers), I've definitely gotten better over time and I think I've improved quite a bit since making these older Spyro videos (and I've definitely improved since starting the channel, jeez some of those older videos are really weird to watch now). Still though, I definitely have a long way to go before I would say I'm in any way good on camera and I still for some reason struggle with coming across enthusiastic! Thanks for the feedback! Nah you didn't offend me at all, no worries :)
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've been waiting for it!! And i love your channel! ^^
Thank you for watching it! It means a lot that you've been enjoying my videos! Stay tuned for the Spyro 3 review coming very soon!
Good review, Spyro 2 is definitely a step up from the original in pretty much every way. Hopefully you'll also talk the whole greatest hits/Platinum release differences in YotD in your next review (which is also one my favorite games ever lol)
I agree, there's pretty much no way in which Spyro 2 doesn't improve on the original game. I will be talking a bit about that, but I won't be going super in depth because it would take a while to talk about all the differences in detail!
I disagree. Spyro one is king imo. No back tracking, no tedious minigames, and much better non linear level design. To each their own though. Still love all of the original 3 games
13:02 Ripto Secretly is Heero Yuy. Talking about "i'll kill you"...
Well done on this video!
I love this game and the review
11:20 yeah but without the tune we wouldn't have the cool dancing pigs!
Yasss! I was just about to comment that! I love that part, The pigs dance. So cute!
I dunno if its the game or whyt, but I had to track 3 copies to have the proper condition manual and stuffs, plus a proper condition disc - stuff just has issues with PS2 for some reason. Also, ye mention pretty much every way better when compared to the first game eh? Not quite. The muzak is in MONO (also in game 3) while the first game had it in STEREO (albeit quite loud compared to demos of it). Also, apparently there's a gem finder which shows where Sparx-man shows ye where them gems are, and that's only mentioned in the manual, but who uses that, them gems are not that hard to track down. Even that pesky final one. I never used that, same with the thing ye unlock in game #3. I'm annoyed that they added it in all three games of the remakester of them. I also recall they added the map feature of Spyro 2 to all dem games as well if I recall, which I also never used in Spyro 2.
Also, out of the original three, this is the game I played last, I had only the OG (though not as a legit disc) as a kid, I tracked some time ago legit-ness of the first game and the third game (original revision), then the second one, and finally the original looking updated third one.
Aye you're wearing the same shirt as me
Nice! You clearly have good taste! :D
