周公是個70多歲的富翁，因為妻子不能生育，想娶個年輕的姑娘生個兒子繼承產業。一次偶然的機會他相中了一個名叫帶水的漁家女，於是買了好多時髦的東西送給帶水的父母作為聘禮。而正值懷春佳齡的帶水卻看上了周的手下--風度翩翩的夏公子，夏公子以捧帶水做明星的託口哄住她。怎料帶水舉止粗俗，品性不羈，忍受不了嚴格的瘦身美體的訓練。而一直暗戀帶水的炒蜆仔公子嬌眼看着心上人執迷不悟地做富貴痴夢，展開了一場諧趣層生的奪妻大戰……
Sue is a boatman's daughter with stars in her eyes. Rich man Chow is struck by her beauty. So he sends his friend Ha bearing rich gifts for Sue's parents. Ha's mission: to get Sue as Chow's concubine. But Sue falls for Ha instead. Joe, the boy next boat, is in love with Sue. Joe's brother has been courting Sue's sister and inadvertently makes the sister pregnant. Tradition says a girl cannot be married who has an elder sister. Sue's parents thus arrange a double wedding, pairing Joe and his brother with Sue and her sister. Sue elopes with Ha to Macau where Ha tries to sign the marriage certificate in Chow's name. An angry Sue is pacified only after Ha convinces her that Chow will arrange for her to win a beauty contest. Sue is caught by her family but manages to escape once again. Chow and Ha finally bribe Sue's parents to agree to the rich-poor match. Sue now starts to prepare for the beauty pageant. Ha has no patience for the rigors and hires Joe to accompany Sue. Night of the contest, Joe climbs aboard Chow's yacht but is spotted. Ha is thrown overboard by mistake. There is an invasion of refugees and Joe and Sue are crowded off board. Ha, Joe and Sue are marooned on an islet. Sue finally realizes it's Joe who is a true lover. Thus, wedding bells chime for the boy and the girl next boat.
