I love your designs, your analytical yet sensible approach of the subject, methodically focusing on the essential before dwelling into the details. The shape language of your paintings, in particular, is so great, and so are the textures and light. Yes ,you got a real sense of bringing dimensionality using light. Your videos are both very instructive and appeasing to me.
Just absolutely mesmerised watching this come to life and it’s helped teach me how to reset my approach to my own art. Working out how to get what’s in your mind even started on a page I find quite tough but this will definitely open up my skills. New favourite channel. ✌️
I found your channel a few days ago and i have to say that you have become one of my biggest inspirations. As an artist who is learning like landscapey art ((i dont know how to word it)) your videos have been a great help. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us :]
What sets these videos apart from others on YT is the wisdom and insight into your wider process and work ethic. You are creating a really valuable repository of knowledge here. Cant thank you enough
I have some UA-camrs I have really liked for the last few years, big digital artists, but I do feel your approach and down to earth nature, your realistic approach and reaching out to commenters has really gotten me to watch these all the way through. I really liked what you said about others artists empathizing with your art so they understand where you’re going with it. So to find the people who would be okay with telling you if they understand what they are looking at. Happy to be a new follower!
Thanks so much for saying this :) It means alot. My favorite part of this is being able to connect with people in some way. I'm a really introverted person, so having a community like this of like-minded creative people feels really nice. It motivates me alot :D Thanks for supporting me!
i’ve never been so inspired watching a video as I am when watching yours! i just discovered your channel and I’m pissed I didn’t find your content sooner
I gotta say, your work is SO good. Also, your videos are well above and beyond anything else anyone is doing with environments on UA-cam. Yes, others are doing great tutorials, but the quality of your work is top notch. I think it's your light and atmosphere. So good 🔥
Hey Grady, glad to see your recent output, these videos always inspire me to draw and paint more. I was wondering if you could share your ref and lighting ref photos - I find it really helpful to see what aspects you’re taking from and leaving behind for each image. Thanks so much for everything you’re sharing with this community, cheers!
Honestly you are becoming one of my favorite Art channel on YT, thank you for sharing your process and insight, I have been learning a lot from it. I was wondering, would a discord server be a possibility in the future? :)
Thanks so much :D I have some plans for the future for that. I'm considering a patreon for exclusive stuff like live streams, discord chats etc. Just trying to guage how much I'm able to do on top of my work schedule.
Hello, I feel like I'm in the opposite boat, I'm a good designer, Because It's generally so much easier for me to design strong rather then polish the artwork, I lack so much technical knowledge that It reflects in the final artwork that I create. I sould do so many life studies.
Around 18:30 you gave some great tips for a guy looking to get started drawing/painting someday soon!! nice one dog. Also LOTR and Hobbit movies are goated...
9:57 I remember showing my grand-ma a piece, and her saying, if I didn't know this was from you, I would think that person was clinically insane. THE coldest shower.
Great video. I really appreciate the work you put into these. I found some well needed relaxation drawing along to your videos. Hope your doing well, man.
Procreate, really interested in this stuff, also great art, i recently bought iPad as 3D artist i really want to make some concepts anywhere when i have time before making 3D modeling and blocking in my scenes
JEEZ, dude. This turned out so beautiful! And thanks for adding some extra flesh to all those questions. :) I remember in your last video (?), you had mentioned possibly visiting more real-time process vids. As someone who doesn't post to youtube I have no idea how much extra work this would take, but one idea, if you still wanted to do time-lapsey, commentary stuff, could be to upload the real time footage as an unlisted video that you link to in the description/a pinned comment. Just an idea I thought of while watching this one. No idea if that's even relevant to what you want to do. haha!
Really nice process but most striking to me is the mood & atmosphere you convey within your artworks. This invites the viewer to dive deep into the world you have created. Your channel popped up recently and I subcribed also. UA-cam algorythim is really bad for years but sometimes gems appear out of nowhere. Do you mind telling the name of music track you used at the end of the video? It fits perfectly to the silent process of your finishing touches - very contemplating.
Thank you for sharing your process on this amazing piece, as well as your insights and answering our questions ! Could you talk about brush work and brush economy in a future video ? thank you so much again !!
Hey Grady, thanks a lot for the video. I don't know if that question was already asked, but could you please explain next time the trick with flipping the image horizontally?
Thank you so much for the great and helpful information Could you share with us the specs of what drawing tablet / pen display you use and what you recommend ?? Thank you very much h
We caught Eilean Donan Castle at sunset just last month - pure magic. Loving these longer process videos Grady, really helpful. Were you at LightBox this year? (I was looking after the Conf Centre 😄)
Amazing! It was pouring rain for us, but that gave it kind of it's own cool mood. Still beautiful. I wasn't able to make lightbox this year. Next year though! Thanks :D
Hey, sorry but what's the music you used? I really like it and would be super grateful if somebody could like it. (Awesome content BTW, super informative and at the same time motivating in a relaxed way.)
Haha, I get it! I need a wife, who will rate my artworks xD But asides any jokes, thank you for your artworks and your thoughts about art and things connected to it! I really like things you do and excited to look for your next creations! Thank you!
Could you please give us some tips for creating a professional portfolio? I know we should create a portfolio that compliments the art style of the studio we’re trying to get hired at. But should we have more thumbnails and pre sketch ideas, finished work, or both? And how many pieces?
Stay tuned, I'll make a video going over this in more detail :) But short version: For concept art, studios are looking for your ability to iterate, explore ideas and solve problems. So including sketches/thumbs as well as final designs is a good idea. Ideally multiple pieces for the same project, to show you can design within the constraints of an overall art direction.
CTRL Y changes the file to proof colors, and I have set mine to be Dot Gain 20%. I think I went over it in a previous video but I'll try to share it in the future :)
about wolrd building, you explained in a way i've never seen, thanks bro it helped me a lot at this point.. and congratulation on your art, this is a beautiful piece

You are well positioned then :) Just strengthen your fundamentals and use that to sell your nice designs!
Definatley make more like this! The journey from idea to finalization is exactly what I am looking for :)
Thanks!
This channel makes it seem that art teaching content on youtube is improving.

Loved sitting through this process, do you decide on colour palette based off the colours you see in the reference(a) you use?
Yea I usually start my colors based on a ref, but they gradually change as I go. Good to start with a solid base though. Thanks for watching :)
How did you do the water texture?
So good

I studied animation, worked in that industry for a couple years, then went to school for concept art in montreal :) I went to Syn Studio
