      Mood bruh 😭 a lot of engineers are not creative, unoriginal corporate slaves and work like robots. But it’s a good place to start making money, and from there you could start your own business.

    Well, this leans more toward the environmental part of the civil field. If you go more toward structural and love hands on work with buildings, thats where construction sites and designs come on. I personally think that working on site is very fun ;)

    Hello! It's an interesting video and summarises a lot of the fields in which a civil engineer is involved though I'm a bit confused about the term "Grant writing". Hope someone can help me. Thanks!

      Sir tanong lang, mahirap na bang makakakuha ng job sa civil? Civil is my passion pero parang sobrang dami nang civil sa pinas. Should i pursue my current course (mechanical) or pursue my passion?

    Hello , I just finished my first year of civil engineering and even though I'm good enough at math to survive, I'm not sure if i should continue studying this career . I'm super shy person and infortunately i could not get over it , i'm not social either and i know that you must have good or at least descent social skills if you want to pursue any engineering major , so should i keep it up or just give up and look for something else?
    Sorry for my english , i'm hispanic

      You'll be fine. As long as you get the degree and get practice at what you do on the job, you'll do ok. Just have basic social skills and learn to explain your thoughts clearly. It'll all fall in place once your knowledgeable in your field.

      Julian Rosero there's lots of resources in which a socially anxious person can work on, try Meetup groups to work on your social skills. I couldn't even comprehend with the fact that many shy people work on such top notch careers. I think it's all in the matter of putting the work into the tasks that you will end up in such a workforce.

    What kind of committees or volunteer organizations do you recommend to increase the chances of getting a civil engineering job?

    • @KarvakkoEngineeringBemidji
      @KarvakkoEngineeringBemidji  9 років тому +7

      Great question eric castellanos. This one depends a bit on individual firm preferences. At ***** our company culture is big into volunteering, so any depth of volunteering you've done in your past would show this commitment and be beneficial. Typically for committee involvement, local governments are a great place to look. Many communities have a variety of commissions and committees for residents to be a part of (parks and recreation committee, city planning board, etc.) My suggestion is to find an organization you're passionate about and start there, any volunteer experience will show commitment, time management, and personality attributes.

      Yes, first thing is, make your degree accredited in the USA or Canada, by using a private company, my recommendation is to use WES (World Educational Services), it was the one I used, and then you need to prepare your profile for the USA job market (Developing certain skills, continuing education), then create a user in any job social media (LinkedIn, GlassDoor, etc), start looking to the profile that job recruiters need, work on those skills, and apply to jobs that fit your profile.

    Failing an entire year of my undergraduate engineering study might very well be good for me. With my 0.5 GPA due to a lack of interest in math and physics, I should've chosen else.
    I do not want to end up being depressed like the guy in this video, stuck in an office for most of my life having boring af conversations with clients.
    One of the first things I noticed weeks into my degree was that most of the students were Asian/Indian, and they like many of their kind were forced into the programme by their families. Yet they still managed to pass because they all have higher tolerance levels to the bullshit course content than me.

    I have a quick question. I'm currently a sophomore in high school looking into engineering and I'm currently leaning towards either civil. From what I've a basic background in math and science is needed, but in the actual field, how often in science used? I pick up math like it's nothing and science is my second best subject, but I'd prefer to use math over science.

      Brian Hellested Like the poster under me said, You would use maths and physics to see how much weight and resistance the bridge can take, Designing,inspections everything basically, i am currently in my third year now spend my 4th year for work experience then i will complete my 4th year of Civil Engineering, it takes long but the pay is worth it.

      +Viewing hi Viewing i don't what your real name is, i have a question to ask . i am in 12th grade and am considering to go into either engineering or physics . my question is how much time do you spend thinking like pure thinking you know problem solving ? i almost spend my entire day thinking i dont have friends and don't like to have one at the moment : my hobies are almost thinking problems solving finding mathamatical proof before the text book teaches me reading books finding philosophical answers etc ; so is engineering good for me?

    • @KarvakkoEngineeringBemidji

      +Unknown Human, math is a fundamental part of civil engineering and it's always important to have a passion for
      what you'll be completing your degree in, but like anything, the effort you put into pursuing your goals, is what you can expect out of it. Extra help sessions and tutoring are available frequently at most institutions, so if you
      want it bad enough, there’s resources available to help get you to your goal, even if Math isn’t your favorite subject.

    • @tomchatterton419
      @tomchatterton419 8 років тому +5

      +Unknown Human Its my belief that almost anyone can become good at maths. Its not like art where you need an underlying natural talent (although it helps). Math is just following logical steps, as long as your memory is good enough to remember those steps you'll be fine, you just need a good teacher! if your school teacher sucks try a tutor, but if civil engineering is what you want to do then do it.

    • @desertstar7664
      @desertstar7664 8 років тому +2

      +Unknown Human Labeling yourself as someone "not good in math" only fulfills your dis-empowering destiny. My honest advice will be to grab a copy of "Awaken The Gaint Within" and get rid of your limiting belief systems. Neither any good teacher nor any good tutor will be any good unless you shed your limiting identity.

    • @douglas7672
      @douglas7672 8 років тому +3

      +Frank Rabbitt i had that same kind of belief of "i am not made for math " i used to love science though but at some point i became interested in philosophical questions like 'what is reality, what is the ultimate purpose of existing , what is conciousness why do we need to be good what is good you know list goes on so at some point i found out that maths is actually pure logic if we are to train our selves for absolute pure logic i think mathamatical logic will be the one. Now i have almost ended up loving maths ,

    • @MrKingkov
      @MrKingkov 8 років тому +2

      +Unknown Human I was told by my A Level Mathematics teachers at school I would FAIL A Level maths, so I should drop it. I didn't drop it and I got a C grade (I wish I'd done more work). I have completed university where maths plays such a big part of it, and now I'm studying a MSc in Civil Engineering and Construction Management. The module I am currently studying involves complex statistics. Well, it's complex to me! I find if you try, it will work out in your head.
      In very basic terms, civil engineering is split into consulting and contracting. You could work for a contractor where you are working out on site doing setting out and production management to ensure something is delivered on time and is built correctly - and the most advanced maths topics might be trigonometry and basic arithmetic. Consulting mostly does the designing - using maths - but it's not like you have to derive the formulae yourself, just understand what's going on.
      If you want to do it, then you will do it. Find the path right for you - there is more than one path in becoming an engineer.

    Is there any scope for girls in civil engineering ? Is it true that civil engineers have to work out all day ? Kindly help i wanna do civil engg but everyone is saying that its not good for girls ( i mean u can understand )

    • @steeverthebest
      @steeverthebest 8 років тому +4

      it depends on the job , for example site engineer is not a properiate for girls . because you cant stand all day under the sun and with the workers ,
      now for the designer which is a job where you sit on the pc and make structures for the buildings using softwares is not bad jop for girls .
      you will sit under the air condition and be relaxed .
      but designing is not easy
