    Charles Dance voice is as soothing as Truganini's story is tragic. Have him narrate more of these kind of documentaries

    I'm English from both sides of my family , I'm terribly ashamed of who my ancestors were .... Tirant murders , in foreign lands as well as their own home land .

      Not only the English were tirant murders. The Spaniards and Portuguese were also tirant murders in Latin America.
      Many historians say that the Belgians were even more cruel in Congo (today Democratic Republic of Congo, but also in Ruanda and Burundi).
      Other historians wrote that the Germans were no better than the Belgians in Africa.
      And the Dutch were also tirant murders in South Africa and Indonesia.
      To be that way was the rule by the time.

      Don't be , they were brave people who pioneered and created one of the best nations on Earth. The whole of human history was blood and war. Stop your white guilt and be proud.

    All the places mentioned I visited in 2020. I read the story of the Tasmananian native people. Very sad and lamentable. In the name of Christ so many crimes were committed. I live sometimes in Soith Africa, and the same colonial tragesies are still vivid.

    Thank you for this video. As an Aboriginal person born, educated and living in Tasmania I grew up in age where my teachers tried to convince me that I didn't exist.
    I would like to point out an error at about 6:38 that states that "the first peoples of Tasmania were all part of the same language group".
    At the time of colonial invasion, it has been recorded that within the island of Tasmania-Lutruwita (Trouwunna in my mobs' language) there were 8 to 9 language groups with numerous dialects developing over 60,000 plus years.
    LANGUAGE GROUPS are also known as TRIBES and more recently referred to by some Aboriginal peoples as NATIONS.
    The 8 to 9 traditional tribes/language groups (Nations) of Trouwunna (Tasmania-Lutruwita)
    1. Paredareme(Parrdarrama) -(central east coast and peninsulas)
    2. Pymirrenner (nth east and Ben Lomond) please note: Ben Lomond is believed by some to be a separate Language group with 3 bands of peoples with own territories...
    plangermirrenna, plindermirrmenna and tonnenerweenerlarmenna
    3.Tyerrermotepanner (north east midlands incl Launceston )
    4.Tommegine (North central including Devonport and Ulverstone)
    5.Peeraper (Nth west including Smithton and Wynyard)
    6. Lirmirrenner (central) (named big river tribe by the British invaders)
    7. Toogee (south west)
    8. Nuenonne (south and south east incl Hobart,Chanel, Huon and Bruny Island)
    Our languages are very important to us and are key to our continued culture. Although we all learn english as a first language and much has been lost, there is a lot of work being done to revive and honour our traditional languages. In the 1990's elders and western academics came together to construct a pigeon language made up from traditional words that could be universally spoken by all mobs within Tasmania-Trouwunna-Lutruwita, this language is known as palawa kani.

    I was moved to hear this story, however it seemed strange and unsettling to hear the yidaki (didgeridoo) when that instrument was traditional only in the north of the mainland, not anywhere else - not in Tasmania. Hearing that broke the experience of the story, momentarily 😊

    Aboriginal women took up with white sealers willingly as they had better lives with white men. There were many Americans who came as seal hunters which resulted in clashes between them and the Australian sealers.

    An opinion piece. The 'Aboriginal 's dated 60 000 years old from Lake Mungo - Mungo woman and Mungo man were well before the current mainland lot that probably arrived 12 -16 thousand years ago in the last glaciation. Truganini was the last of that lot in Tasmania. PS that's why there are NO Tassie Aboriginals, just recent mainlanders crossing the ditch.

      @user-gu1ti9me6i I don't think you really know that you just insulted so many people. Honestly, I don't think you'd miss it. What you said is a great misconception. A misconception that caused the downfall of most of the indigenous people on earth. South Pacific people, North American indigenous (including the indigenous people of Alaska), the Aborigines of Australia, most of Africa and so many more have all been invaded and colonized by the same group of people. All in the name of so-called Christianity and civilization.
      Who is really the uncivilized one? The people that lived in harmony, peace and one with the land for centuries or the people that colonized and depleted earth's natural resources in less than 200 years? All in the name of advancement and modernization.
      How arrogance it is for anyone to think that their way of life is better than the next person's way of life and tradition. So I guess people to this day still believe that the white man's way is the only way to live. I guess if the white man's way is not adopted into any other culture then they(the indigenous people) are considered uncivilized.
      One lesson of many that you need to learn is that the first institution of higher learning was in Timbuktu in the 12th century; AFRICA.
      This is a great example of why Black history should not be taken out of schools. If so, there will be an entire race of ignorant people that still believe that they are superior to any other culture or civilization. Please continue to study, learn and research. For the good of all people.

    When Britain first, at Heaven's command
    Arose from out the azure main;
    This was the charter of the land,
    And guardian angels sung this strain:
    "Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
    "Britons never will be slaves."
    The nations, not so blest as thee,
    Must, in their turns, to tyrants fall;
    While thou shalt flourish great and free,
    The dread and envy of them all.
    "Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
    "Britons never will be slaves."
    Still more majestic shalt thou rise,
    More dreadful, from each foreign stroke;
    As the loud blast that tears the skies,
    Serves but to root thy native oak.
    "Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
    "Britons never will be slaves."
    Thee haughty tyrants ne'er shall tame:
    All their attempts to bend thee down,
    Will but arouse thy generous flame;
    But work their woe, and thy renown.
    "Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
    "Britons never will be slaves."
    To thee belongs the rural reign;
    Thy cities shall with commerce shine:
    All thine shall be the subject main,
    And every shore it circles thine.
    "Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
    "Britons never will be slaves."
    The Muses, still with freedom found,
    Shall to thy happy coast repair;
    Blest Isle! With matchless beauty crown'd,
    And manly hearts to guard the fair.
    "Rule, Britannia! rule the waves:
    "Britons never will be slaves."
