the 225 and 180hp engines are very different. they changed about everything to get it to 225hp. shorter intake, other turbo, better con rods, 2 intercoolers for the turbo, more oil nozzles to squirt onto the piston etc. theres a whole list of differences between 180 vs 225hp to look through. although the basic block and head design might be similar, theyre still very different

In the mid 80's, I worked in Borneo. A colleague had a Starion. I borrowed it over a weekend. As I recall, I don't think I was very impressed with the way it drove. I wasn't sure whether the turbo wasn't working, or I just wasn't driving it hard enough, but It didn't seem to have the amount of get up and go that the looks would imply.
It did look wonderful, though. They still do , actually.

The name also harkens back to the NSU Prinz TT - which was something of a Golf GTI of the 1960s.
Seeing that gorgeous interior again sure brings back some memories. I had a black FWD TT Coupe back from 1999 til about 2004 or so. It was a very early production car that had left the factory without a rear spoiler and without ESP. But it was one of the cars that got those things retro-fitted by the factory in response to that series of crashes that semi-ruined the TT's reputation initially.
I loved that car to bits and it was the first "cool" car I ever had. It was super-reliable, lots of fun to drive and surprisingly practical and reasonably comfortable. I took my GF on a 1,000 km trip to France in it and we didn't have to travel light or anything. That trunk is plenty spacious for a little sports-car and you can always drop the rear seats if you need more room.
And when I sold it with about 115,000 km on the clock, the whole car, and especially the interior, still looked as good as new. There weren't even any real wrinkles, let alone nicks or tears, in the leather on the driver-seat.
Later in life I got to drive the TT Mk II for about a month or so and while it was a better car overall, it just didn't feel as special as the Mk I. Probably because it lacked all those quirky details in the interior that made the original TT so unique.

Had this for 3 years, quattro version as well. Now I have a 2000' S3, same engine but 210hp. So I can sit my kids in the back. A nice rewiew from the Wizzard. This car has been called many names:
    - hair squinshy (I hope I spelled that right) product for men by Jeremy Clarkson
    - pocket rocket by Mike Brewer (Wheeler dealer show)
    - an now the best of all - A cute little sucker by Mrs Wizzard.

The Cube's seating is exactly why the Scion XB was so popular with an older crowd, the opposite of what Toyota was trying to achieve. However, when I was in Okinawa the Toyota BB was super popular among those of us who were allowed to have cars (I wasn't one of them). You could fit 5 Marines in them with plenty of legroom, you could fit a ton of luggage in it. It's a perfectly sized car for the size of the roads over there. I'd buy one now that I'm 27 because I know better, but at 19 I thought they were ugly.

At least it made it to the shop BEFORE the timing belt snapped.
The last TT that came into my shop had the belt snap at 70,000 miles (the recommended scheduled change was at 80k), its very bent valves are now on display in the waiting room to show why timing belts are important maintenance items.

We have a Citroën Berlingo a car based on a small van and like the Cube, it's so practical and easy to get in and out of. Other much prestigious cars end up being frustrating when they can't do what the Berlingo does and feel claustrophobic in comparison. A handy vehicle to have in any household!

My TT is a 2005 I bought in 2007 off a lease with only 14k miles, but half the price of the car new. It’s been the lowest cost of ownership of any car I’ve ever had and it’s still going strong today. I opted for the naturally aspirated 3.2L 6 because the car really needed that extra oomph and torque. Mine had Quattro and the DSG- the DSG gearbox combo with that narrow V6 made this car bullet proof. The DSG simply will NOT allow you to mistreat the gearbox or the engine, and as a result I have had no issues with the power train at all. I have no problem getting in or out of the TT, and I’m 67. I find it to be the perfect height. And it has a genuinely useful load capacity… i have even brought home lumber and furniture in the TT.
As to the Cube. It looks like a cross between the box and better looking car was shipped in and a microwave oven, only it doesn’t have a popcorn preset button. A what is with all the Cup Holders in the front of that car? I counted SEVEN in my friend’s Cube.
