Do you think it's okay for new riders to learn on an AUTOMATIC motorcycle?
I really think it depends on the rider and what their comfort level is with learning to shift. When I was learning on a Rebel 300 with zero previous experience with manual transmissions it was a lot with all the other things being thrown at me all at once. Now that I have more experience, I’ve moved onto a CTX 700 DCT and love just being able to enjoy the ride and focus on my surroundings. The Navi could be the first step to get folks intimidated by shifting into riding.
No.
Yes. Look at how many people learned on and how to only drive automatic cars.
IMO we need more shiftless motorcycles
In my view that's a no. Might be best to learn the hard way first with shifting and later on ease up on the shifting on an automatic, not the other way around.
Sure. Get comfortable riding before having to think about shifting
I bought a navi few months ago and I absolutely love it! I am 59 years old and just starting to ride, however I have been a passenger for 11 years with my late husband. I missed the feeling, and the wind and the freedom. In his honour I went and bought this little bike, and I think of my love everytime I ride. ❤️
Right on!
👍
Honda is doing the entire motorcycle industry a favor by attracting new riders.
Thank you for your videos! As a new female rider it’s nice to see a women openly share her passion and experiences. You inspire me! 💕
Amanda found her color on the Navi!!!
I learned to ride on my cousin's Honda 50 back in about 1970. Had a ball and the fact that it was an automatic didn't hinder my learning a clutch later.
Don't over-think it, just ride it!
I have been riding for almost 20 years and I love my little Navi. At 6’2’’ 200 lbs I can only get mine up to about 45 mpg on flat ground but it is by far the most unintimidating bike I’ve ever rode.
Really? I'm about the same size was considering one for fuel efficiency, less than half of advertised is a deal breaker
@@______4790 I’m sorry. I don’t know if that was an autocorrect error but it was supposed to say 45 mph. It gets 75 to 80 mpg
@@lawrencewalraven5137 Oh ok! thats much better, and the bike looks pretty good except for the low top speed. But for the price I bet will be popular
I'm recovering from a stroke so sold my two classic Honda bikes a 73 CB450 and a 78 XL125. As I got better I got my balance back bicycling around the neighborhood. Now I've got myself a grasshopper green Navi, love the color and visibility of it and the fact it's an automatic but still has a tank between my legs. Rode home from the dealer in the next town and then rode the country backroads to my job. So when I return to work soon it's going to be perfect and save money over driving my SUV. I'll still use the SUV on rainy days though.
It's great that Honda has given us something a little different to choose from and an option for people in situations like mine to keep on riding, I'm 62 and wasn't ready to give up two wheels but my health dictated that I needed to make some changes. It's a great little bike.
Amen brother
I have one preordered! It comes in February and I can’t wait!!! 🤩
What was thr total price? Did they get you with "ADM" and "DOC" "FEES"?
$3300.00 CAD out the door EH!
I recently had to switch to an “automatic” bike because I have no more flex in my left ankle due to health stuff. My CTX700 with dct is perfect for me. At this price, I want to add a red Navi and roll with a ruckus/grom club. 😎
Reading people complaining its an automatic..... just stop.... learning to ride two wheels is scary enough.... your low visibility to other vehicles... you have to actually use your body to maneuver etc.. learning the basic riding skills is wayyyy better than weather or not you look cool banging gears... its all about comfort and im sure alot of people would love to ride and are just genuinely terrified starting out on bike let alone getting used to a clutch etc... I learned on a scooter how to ride and when I was comfortable enough it was a super easy transition to a real motorcycle ... just saying some of yall need to put your egos aside and see the bigger picture.... riding is riding one matter if you have an automatic or a six speed bike... the roads don't care... as long as you get out and ride thats truly what matters💁♂️
I completely agree
We should be glad big moto cos are selling low cost bikes to bring new riders in to sport. Stop the brand hate, size shaming and the BS!
I'm 6foot1 will I fit on this
as a Vespa (250) rider, I couldn't agree more! Not everyone wants to grind gears all the time. Twist and go is A LOT of fun!
Agree. Two wheels is two wheels, in my eyes.
"You meet the nicest people on a Honda" has to be the best marketing ever.
Unless you meet Shadetree Surgeon
I'm buying one of these to teach my wife to ride. It's perfect for anyone learning.
Fab and very informative, regards from India.
I own a 2016 Dec Navi (Orange). Never had an issue and use it as a daily over 50 kms to and fro through all season - rain, summer & winter !
Perfect bike for errands and fun rides on back roads. Love the colors. Would prefer a digital display.
Ryan F9 at FortNine did a review of an aftermarket digital display that's available as a very minimal visual, up to a full on color touch screen and GPS included. If you don't mind aftermarket stuff, it'd be a cool option.
@@nephicus339 By chance, do you know when that episode came out? Thanks.
I think it is a great idea for starting out. Keep the rider focused on the skills, and not be afraid of the weight / stall / drop. In the city urban commute sounds perfect. Sent this video to my daughter. Might help her.
I just bought a 2024 Honda Navi and live in a college town and I LOVE it.
Granted, I weigh 100 lbs soaking wet but as somebody who had only previously ridden a Honda Spree I owned for several years, this is a motorcycle to me lol
Been having the time of my life on it. I'm at 75 miles and can't wait for 7,500.
Anything that encourages new riders is great.
If you later decide to step up to something bigger, THEN you can learn to clutch and shift without the worries of acquiring the basics skills.
I want to see Shadetree on one😂
Cheyleesi
That would look like he setting down floating. 😂😂😂
like a monkey fucking a football
I don’t watch shadetree much any more but I’d defiantly watch that video
@@coltonsites3802 out of curiosity, do you not like the direction his Channel has gone or just kinda stopped watching naturally?
Hoping to get a red Navi, have a motorcycle license, but cant afford anything more than a Navi currently. Wish it had a bit more power, but its good to get a feel for 2 wheels while saving for a proper full size
I have found that smaller motorcycles are fun to ride. They are easy to handle, and some of them have a torque-to-weight ratio that can give wicked acceleration - especially when pulling away from a standing start. The best motorcycle I ever owned was a Suzuki TC90. I should have kept it. But at the time, I mistakenly thought I was "upgrading" to a larger bike.
This seems to be a great option for an entry level bike. Appreciate it for what it is and have fun. For @ $1807.00 you get a starter bike for mainly around town riding, under 50mph for the most part. And you get well over 100 mpg. Mini bikes and go karts have similar power trains, and people graduated to larger machines with manual gearboxes. If the new Goldwing with the automatic/cvt transmission is good in sales, we may see that as an option on more motorcycles in the near future. Just like in cars where sales of manual transmissions have dropped into the single digit percentile. I prefer manual transmissions, but with the newer generations of more fuel efficient automatic/cvt units may be taking over.
Cant find one in California for less than $3100 plus fees.
When my kids were young I picked up a quad with a clutch and manual transmission. This let them learn without the worry of being on 2 wheels. This bike would be similar but opposite. Learning how to be on 2 wheels without the worry of shifting.
Feliz Navi Grom... Happiness is a Navi and a Grom!
Son's Wife's new Navi delivered Dec 31 at Shawnee Honda in Oklahoma. Tops downhill at 55mph and a Blast!
Imagine a body like this for a People 250 with big tires, mid-storage and does 80mph?
It's an amazing and reliable little motorcycle. Have the Chrome model, and riding it since 2017, 30k miles and still amazing. Inexpensive parts, super low maintenance and nice handling.
Sadly my country rejected it and has been closed since 2019. Glad to see it back again there
I'm so thrilled about this bike. Boyfriend and I moved to a place full of beautiful country roads we want to cruise on. We were looking at Honda adv150 but then this was released and it's so much more my style. Ultimately decided automatic would be for us since we're not bikers and we just want to have an easy time sightseeing..no highways for us needed. I'm short, 5'1'' and think this will be just fine.
Did you get it & do you like it?
Just happy to see you on a Honda! Shadetree would be proud
I think Shadetree mention in his last video that he will be in California for a week. I'm not too sure if he's going to the Honda event.
@@sen_pen0143 yeah, he did something a few days ago. Instead of flying back he bought a Honda Silverwing and rode back to Fl
@@demented_cycles No way! I can't wait to see him ripping that Silverwing.
They look cool as hell, it's going to be hard to pick a color, at first I thought the dark olive green was the coolest color for it, but now it seems that the other options started to grow on me
In the UK, at 16-years old it’s probably the largest portion of new riders as you’re limited to 50cc. At 17 you can go to a 125cc and even then a lot stick with no geared bikes. At 19 you can go to max 395cc and max 47BHP, that’s when most go to geared machines. You have to stay on these small machines for two years, then do another test to get on bigger bikes. Alternatively you can wait till you’re 24 (21 if you did the 2-years on the 47BHP bike already) and go for direct access and you can ride a 595cc / 54BHP for training and test then anything goes.
Yep same here in Romania 🇷🇴
I started riding in 2018 at age 22 with the A2 license
Got the full A license this year
Ye,u can start with the A at 24 years or after 2 years of A2 if u get that earlier
Or the A1 at 16 but that's only 125cc
@@motorcyclemichael2182 The EU mandated system has it's flaws, but it also has it's plus sides. Sure, we can't get a ZX6 at 16, but we also don't have to worry about 16 year olds on a Hayabusa or H2.
You guys have your license ? 🤔.
So the Navi is too big to start on at 16 yrs old, must wait another year. The total list sounds a bit confusing and even more difficult to enforce. Sure would help people get familiar with the power as they move up. Probably increases access to low cost, well maintained, multi-owner learning bikes, and buyers for yours when you can move up.
@@motorcyclemichael2182 I started on a Ducati S2r800. Let Feedom Ring!
It made me one when I never really would have.
I got mine a week ago and looooove it! 😊😊😊
Great video!
The mud color with camo graphics is pretty cool.
Interesting thoughts...and, Yes, it's perfectly OK to learn on an automatic, But it will make you want more. I think the scares that new riders will face are balance, confidence and technical stuff. So, without the clutch and gears the new rider can focus more on balance and the riding... Big thanks Jess!!!
I learned on a manual shift 100cc dirtbike starting at age 8. I had 8 years of riding practice by the time I got my license at 16. That was 46 years and over a million miles ago. I have never ridden an automatic motorcycle. I'd rather just quit riding.
Good take. Never bought a bike but wanted one for 20yrs. Gonna buy this one once I get my endorsement.
Fwiw, this probably will help the industry. I'm at the age where money isn't an issue. Just wanting to go in at a slower pace.
I’ve met so many happy, encouraging, and inviting people since I started my journey into motorcycling. Any bike that brings a new rider into the community is the right bike. Welcome, new riders! We’re glad you’re here! Let’s have fun together!
I really enjoyed this video. You do a very good honest review. I dont want a shift motorcycle so this was very informative. I know youre an excellent motorcycle rider and can ride full sized big bikes so i trust your opinion of this Navi for a beginner . Thank you for doing this review Jess. It was very helpful. It looks fun.
This was a total surprise. I am from India. and I have been a subscriber for a while. I always watched and loved your content to see the big bikes. And me being an Indian Navi owner since 2017 this was a surprise. The only differences are that the rear brake is placed on the handle as a cycle and we Indians didn't get a fuel meter or combi braking. Also, it's discontinued here because of poor sales even though Navi was built first in India.
Mr Clyde, is right you do meet the nicest people. Riding a Honda . Especially them little bikes like the navi or the rukus ..
That is cute little bike and in all honesty it like a scooter in different form factor. I started my street experience on MOPED, 50cc and was not allowed to do over 20 mph on level ground, don't tell it would peg speedo at 35 on level ground , but I think it enforced my love to get a street bike when I was old enough. I think this bike be great step for someone wanting to get used to traffic and riding on the street who have never rode a motorcycle before or if someone looking at one the smaller scooters, this be great option. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, the laws have not caught up to understand electric bicycles. Without a license they are controller limited to 28 MPH or less with plenty of power if they were treated right. The 50 cc limit was an easy way to avoid governors and give a little lee-way.
Picking mine up next week! I'm getting a red one, very excited!! 👍🏻
Worked on me! Already got my Navi and taking my Stars class next week :)
Gonna buy one in Feb. Nut Brown.
BTW, I have been riding for 50+ years. Harley, Honda, Suzuki , Yamaha... I have had 15+ bikes, ATV's, Snowmobiles, 70+HP boats, etc. Fun is what riding is about. This should do it.
I bet 60% of current riders began on dirt bikes but, these things might well be the beginner's bike for the 21st Century riders. I'm not troubled by automatic's for beginners. The more riders the better IMHO. BTW Jess, hope you can make it to Amanda's Rocky Mountain Roll. The best time you'll ever have with fellow moto-campers in what may be North America's most scenic pasture. A long ride from Buckeye-dom for sure. If you make it, be sure to go a bit further north and west to Ride US 12 into Idaho. The greatest ride in North America, without question. All others pale in comparison.
Love your enthusiasm. The bike seems like a lot of fun for around town.
That's a neat looking little bike. Learning on a small bike is a much better idea. Learning on an automatic will, I'm sure, be a topic of debate as long as there are different types of bikes. I think it's ok and you can 'graduate' (?) 'upgrade' (?) to a clutch in advanced classes.
I am not sure if driving on a small bike with cvt will help you with a bigger bike and manual transmission. it's still a nice bike and the seat position is far better on a normal scooter, but the handling should be similar
Balboa! That's where I grew up!
I hope to get my Navi in April. i have been riding bikes for 50 years and plan to use the bike for running around town for errands and cheap transportation to work. Mostly flat land around northwest Indiana and lots of country roads to explore. With the price of gas going up this will be a great purchase and have fun at the same time.
Nice job on the review. Looks like a fun affordable bike.
Automatic transmissions transformed the auto industry. It will do the same for motorcycles and introduce more people to riding.
It got me riding. Not sure why they waited so long…🧐
I just don’t enjoy shifting anymore. Rather soak in the scenery instead of worry about gears.

I guess you are in North America?
I’m uploading a vid of my Surron light bee x on some trails. Check my page in an hour or two
I Just learned about this yesterday and I am So So hype for it, honestly motorcycles should have gone to this a Long time ago, now they just need to build like a 450 version.
I’ve owned a concours and a triumph scrambler. Picked up a Navi and love it. Small, light and easy to work on. Had fun putting a Pollini carb and Yoshi exhaust on it. It transformed the bike. Most importantly it’s fun to ride. We need more riders and less judging. It’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast then a fast bike slow. Plus the motor is bulletproof. It’s not to good for the people of India and Mexico.
Super video. Merci beaucoup mademoiselle. J'ai decouvert un super jouet . Cette petite moto est idéale pour Paris en France. 👍👍👍💓
Oui c'a les
Nice i want one! for sure better than Ruckus.
Cool vid. It was good to meet you and ride together. Cheers!
Back in the early 80's, I started on a cm400 Hawk with a 2 speed auto trans. It was a gas to learn on. But size was an issue as I'm 6 ft and 250 lbs at the time. Next was the cb750 k and v65 Magna. The magna scared the snot out of my wife and she didn't like it. After 3 months, we traded it in for a 1984 gl1200 Goldwing. Loved that bike to pieces. Currently have a 86 xvz1300 venture royale in pieces. Looking to rescue it and maybe get another Goldwing in the future. Tried all spring and summer but no one would carry a contract for a used Goldwing so here I sit with no bike that runs.
Oooh I want one just for the glove box!
You convinced me Jess. Damn, you're good. Headed to my friendly Honda dealer in the morning...gotta check this thing out.
Can't wait to get mine
I feel like this is the beginner motorcycle for people who can't keep their balance on two wheels. This allows them to focus on just staying upright on two wheels around the city, manual shifting and controlling more horsepower can come later.
I'm on a waiting list for the Navi right now, but your comment about city driving has me evaluating. I want a bike for both pavement and gravel fire roads (going to the lake, exploring foothill back roads). I'm 75, so my danger fantasies are well in the rear view mirror. Just want a fun toy to enjoy the area.
I'd say spend the Xtra money n get a grom as the ability to mod it is vastly better.
@@jaybosher6144 What if one doesn't want to mod, just ride a bit of variety?
@@richhowell6874 well you said gravel roads correct? I assume you'd want to find some decent tires for that but with that 10 inch rear your gunna be screwed (I haven't checked but I'm fairly confident) on selection. I got a z125 and I went to the grom specs for tires cause the stock choices are horrible. They both have 12 inch wheels but the tires that make the z125 so nimble also are much more expensive than typical 12 inch wheels.
Plus having drum brakes and no clutch is a pain when you want precise throttle control. The grom has the new engine and trans now plus it's going to be overall better quality. Don't forget fuel injection vs the carburetor on the navi.
This is a beach rental or for someone who isn't a bike person who want very cheap transportation. Trust me, buy once cry once.
@@jaybosher6144 Thanks for the response. I'll give it some thought. Truly, this is just a toy for me, so I was attracted by the $1807 price. The Grom is nearly twice that. But I'll keep your advice in mind.
@@richhowell6874 no problem, the initial price looks very appealing but there's a reason for that. Honestly think about what you want and think about things like consumables or maintaining a carb. W.e bike you get I hope you enjoy. I knew I wanted a mini bike after discovering them online and I've enjoyed them very much without having to rack up speeding tickets in the process lol.
Looks like a great bike to start out on. Good review Jess~
Out of 7 motorcycles,
4 of which hondas,

Funnest bike ever.
Love my Navi!
Navi Nation!
Just need to easi!y , cheaply get from 45 mph to 55.
I’m a new rider. I learned manual at the training course I took to get my license.
I also bought a livewire deal mar cause it’s awesome and automatic. I’m buying this cause I need a small bike to take me to the train.
I don’t want to worry about clutch at all lol
So happy you and Amanda got to test ride these. So cool. So cute. 😊
Im a rider since 18 years ago. Have owned many models of bikes. Now Im thinking about this one (or Groom) for comuting to work. High mpg and low maintenance.
My son got one for his 1st bike and commuter for work, hr away in heavy traffic. He loves it so much we got him a 2nd for back-up. He alternates each day with them. 1st has over 2500 miles on it and 2nd close to 1000. If ya don't need to go fast, it's a winner.
wow I wish I had one of these when i was younger, I didnt even start riding till I was 28, started on a suzuki 650 savage
My Girlfriend bought the Navi a few weeks ago, I purchased a CT125 for her to ride 6 months ago and she was timid riding it and uncomfortable for her. she adapted to the Navi in about two days she became confidant .....and a little cocky on actually! The Navi keeps up with the Monkey I ride and the Navi little faster than the CT125 as well. note; she ways 50lb less than me so that helps. simply a great little motorcycle!
Been riding for three years now on a Honda shadow. I want one, looks like fun! Great for trips to the store as well.
Nice beginners bike and would be great for short trips around town, etc…. Thanks Jess!
Happy 2022!
Thanks for your awesome work on this bike!!
I think I’m getting one!

I want a Navi because It reminds me of the Honda MB5 that I wanted when I was in highschool, but never got.
If it doesn't go "HEY, LISTEN" when I hit the horn I'm not buying it 😆
Living in Florida😎 where it's pretty flat, I'm looking at the Navi as an around towner machine. With the 100mpg rating, and $1800 sticker, I may just buy one for errands. I had a Yamaha Vino 125, and it was a fun ride with mega storage under the seat....👍😺
I know that beach area in the beginning. It's Corona del Mar! Grew up going there
Don’t really care about motorcycles but this lil Navi looks like a blast. Definitely going to buy one for my girlfriend and me.
Hi jess this is oldhelmet im just using my friends phone i think for us asians its a regular rides for most people here bc america have wider roads but believed me in asia its very useful in traffic bc its a small size . And to make fast the automatic motorcycles is you have to full throttle then release your grip on the throttle then grip it again to full throttle it will reach maybe 100 kph. You can watch thailands drag race automatic scooters. I hope i have answered the question of how to make speed of this little bike. And yes it is fun to ride too with smaller bikes.
It's absolutely a great beginner bike for some people. If you live out where you might be riding on dirt roads or putting a lot of miles on the bike probably not as much but for people in city environments where they'll never get on roads over 45 mph I think it would be great.
This will be my first bike and I can’t wait 😁 I’ll be using it in New York, I have a car but I want to save gas in the spring and summer for when I drive to work and home or I go pick up some food or something 😊
I wish this were around a year ago. I haven’t rode too often but As a new rider my biggest concern is ALWAYS shifting and stalling.
I got my license with my Vespa GTS 250 - would love to see you test ride a Vespa GTS 300.
I think I want this bike, great review
I like it. It looks weird but in a good way. And it feeds into my small capacity addiction 😂
Thank you
I have enjoyed my Red Navi in India since 2016. Glad to see the rest of the world getting addicted...esp Americans who love big bikes and trucks.
Navi is a disguised Honda Activa scooter...the most popular ICE scooter in India.
I now await ELECTRIC NAVI in Philippines where I have migrated. At present back in India and enjoying my beloved Navi I left behind and repurchased.
Looks like the Navi would be a decent beginner/city bike. The small size and ease of not needing to shift means you can concentrate on the other aspects of riding ( handling, hazard detection, etc) without being distracted by needing to deal with a transmission you are not comfortable with. You can learn the transmission by itself later. One other comment, however, is that if you are WOT all the time, the bike *is* underpowered for you. I saw you being passed a couple of times while you said you were giving it all it had. That's actually dangerous. A fully automatic motorcycle is an interesting concept, but perhaps the DCT is a better option in this case. If the Navi had a bit more power ( make it a 125cc or a 175cc) I think that might be a better solution.
Seems like a cool little ride for someone starting out. Me personally I don’t like auto bikes, that takes most of the fun and learning out of riding. That’s like teaching a new driver to drive an auto and them having that free hand to play with cellies or radio. Cali looks bootiful. Would rather be there or in Florida riding year round (with Shadetree, Flip and Family) in great weather though. Very nice video sweet lass. Ride on and peace out.
Cute little motorcycle, thanks for the demo.
Slower traffic needs to stay right side of the road. Pretty much impeding traffic in the left lane.
In Oregon out the cost with license plate and registration and Honda Shipping is $2,500
I started on a 125 enduro their great little beach cruisers
This would be a good mini moto to take out while overlanding, granted you gotta have something to rack it/tow it on
Just "twist and go" is the best convenience.
There are over 20 million scooters in Taiwan of 23 million people. Most of them are scooters with CVT belt-driven of "twist and go" style. Both "Kymco" and "Sym" scooters are made in Taiwan for over 60 years with robustness. Kymco is making "J300" big scooters for Kawasaki while delivering 650 c.c. engines to BMW.
Great little bike for nipping around town ....
Great and informative video..Thanks for posting..
I saw one the other day and had no idea of what it was. I also saw a brand spanking new, Honda Rebel 250 yesterday, so I know they're out there.
A set of cheap mirror extenders make all the difference. I learned on a KZ-900 but now ride a PCX 150. Having more fun with small bikes. Tempted to get a Navi to loan to friends.
My friend said it automatic Grom! Mrs. Jess
To me it looks like a pit bike or a town bike as you’re stated. New riders need to realize that when you take you test for your license you have to maneuver around a circle as well as cone maneuvers. I think this would be a excellent bike for your license test.
One of your best vids young Lady
It’s a cute CVT for beginners….well done ✅
I just bought one of these Hond Navi but haven't had a chance to ride it yet. Up here in Maine it's too cold and snowy to ride motorcycles. Right now it's still at the Honda dealer keeping warm. I'm hoping for a semi-warm day this month or next month to go get it.
