- Another segment from the Toshiba DVD Gallery demo disc, this is a bunch of the "You've Got Senses- Use Them" promos. Don't know if all of these aired on TV as I'd already pretty much stopped watching it by then. The disc lets you keep playing these over and over if you so desire.
dude this shit sounds awesome.
I think the true power of optical DVD at the time was for data storage, movies where kinda cute but for those who where really in the know, where burning and backing their data up on disc because of the tiny hard drive sizes at the time.
DVD was not developed by TOSHIBA, who developed DVD was Sony
some were
especially in north america
_"DVD was not developed by TOSHIBA, who developed DVD was Sony"_
DVD was a development by a consortium of companies, including Toshiba and Sony.
Before DVD, it was the Super Density Disc by Toshiba and Panasonic as well as the Multi-Media Compact Disc by Sony and Philips.
Knowing that a format war would result, IBM threatened to boycott both formats if none would come together to create one system. This resulted in a consortium that combined these two formats into DVD.
I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing! I was wondering about that
I love LaserDisc better than DVD

@DaDeceptiveOne Isn't that the truth! I find it hilarious that there was so much "control" put over the format in the beginning (with region coding and Macrovision among other things) but now they're easier to copy than VHS tapes, and the copy comes out at the EXACT same quality as the original!
I have to say it's karma, because when I was into laserdiscs Disney delayed a lot of releases because they were afraid they'd be used for copying, as LDs couldn't have Macrovision like VHS.
DVD will for ever alter... the way you copy movies xD
DVD got lucky back in 1997, even back then DVD was pussy shit compared to VHS.
The quality is overrated, and it ruins novelty.
@Watcher3223 Seriously?? Blu-Ray KILLS Dvd im sorry
Uh
@Watcher3223 This isnt entirely true. Yeah if you want to replace your older DVD's you will have to buy them again, but Blu-Rays and DVD are about the same price now. A brand new Blu-Ray movie is no longer $40 anymore, plus its more than just replacing old movies, its more like upgrading them. Sony HDTV + Sony Blu-Ray player = HEAVEN. I see Both formats obsolete in 10 years anyway because of digital downloads.
They have combo packs, so you get a DVD and Blu-ray copy of the movie for one price.
@@SparkzEnt damn coming back to this comment I was right af
the next format will be pcrt22.
Me too, only mine came without a dvd-drive. What a ripoff, I should just chuck it in the trash after seeing what awesome stuff I've been missing.
Wow, so a "generation" is only 11 years long now?
Wanna horrible!!!
