The copper level seems to reduce fast, especially if you have the filtration in your quarantine tank. Do I keep re-dosing cupramine to keep the ppm level at 0.5?
Hi there again , I have just one doubt , do you get at first the correct level of cupramine after 48 hours and then you added fishes right ? What is the best level ? I hear a lot of people saying it is better to go lower than 0.5 ? Thanks again.
Pedro Flores for me i didn’t follow the 48 hour instructions. I worked out the cupramine level I needed as a whole (it’s roughly 1 drop per litre) and then divided that figure by 7 to give a daily dose. Then I divided that daily dose in half adding half in the morning and half in the evening so it wasn’t a huge shock to the fish. I added the fish to the quarantine tub and then started cupramine a few days later so they had chance to get over the stress of moving 👍

Pedro Flores hi pal, in my opinion the only way to truly get the ich gone is to take all of the fish out of your tank, treat with copper and fallow your tank for 3 months. I tried polyp lab medic but it just didn’t work for me and cost me fish that could have possibly survived. In the end I was very unlucky, I was coming to the end of the 3 months fallow, all the fish had survived the copper apart from the powder blue and on the last weekend we were on holiday for a weekend away. That weekend last year we had the hottest 2 days on record and my neighbour called to say the tank had reached 31 degrees (which killed the clam) and the fish in the qt tub were not looking great. I got home the following morning to 2 dead mandarins, a dead peacock and cleaner wrasse and my yellow tang was also gasping. As the water had heated through the extreme heat the oxygen had stripped from the water in the qt tub which ultimately killed them. I honestly believe had I not been away that weekend we’d have had no losses so was just freak luck. Nic Nolan hey pal, I didn’t say half dose buddy, I dosed 1 drop per litre making it 50 drops for 50 litres. The only time I added half the copper back in was when I did a 25 litre water change as I was technically removing half the copper 👍
UK Reefer ohh ok sorry my mistake! How did you go about treating the ammonia? I just setup a QT and my 2 clowns are being treated now but I’m really not keen on doing a 50% water change daily. I’ll end up broke lol
Nic Nolan that’s ok mate, I had to quickly watch it back as thought I’d made a mistake lol, I found the same thing on the water changes. If you have any media in your sump that you can transfer some of it over that will help (don’t put it back in your sump after you’ve finished qt pal) but I found brightwells microbactor7 did a great job of keeping ammonia down. Think it was only 1 cap full per day and that kept the ammonia at bay 👍
Wrasse are more sensitive to copper
