    honestly your videos are top tier quality. I have never seen anyone go through each print and help with the cura slicer settings. you are one of the best printubers lol. Thank you for your contribution to the community! my comment about makin bank sellin these at the school was just a joke but in highschool for sophomore or junior year we had a giant printing press in the art room that our art teacher absolutely loved! he always talked about everyone getting their own personal printing presses. ima send this to him lol

      I wish I had a printing press in high school! My first experience with printmaking was in high school making a 4 color linocut on the pink easy carve rubber. We did drop and pray registration and hand printing. :'(

    That is a sweet looking press. I will be printing one for my local makerspace, I think that will work well there. Thank you for the great work.

    Interesting project.
    Just a thought on the geared press bed, have you considered just printing the racks and glueing them on to a plastic/wood/metal sheet?

    • @someprintdude
      @someprintdude  2 місяці тому +1

      I did consider the idea but I decided not to try it. I was concerned that if I did not glue the two sides exactly parallel, or if the racks were slightly offset, that it would not work.

    Impressive, nice to see another printmaker with their hands in the third axis plotting world. The intaglio results aren't that surprising, even some smaller steel presses aren't entirely viable for printing intaglio. Just look at the lengths something like a french tool goes through in order to establish sufficient rigidity. If I can say anything: Don't be afraid of metal. Steel fabrication isn't as hard as it seems, and in many ways it can be a less finicky material to work with then FDM. Fun video, Peace!

      I hope one day I can make one in metal. I have some welding experience but I always get stumped when trying to make the top and bottom rollers. I'm just not that precise with my fabrication, although I have considered getting a machine shop to just do that part for me.

    cool design, I have printed the openpress design and I might now try this as the size is vastly greater. Is it worth looking at getting a list of parts that can be bought internationally through somewhere like ali express? I have no idea what a 3/4" x 2-3/16" Spring equates to in metric.... and would love to be able to create the press as you intended.

    • @someprintdude
      @someprintdude  9 місяців тому

      I'll add ali express links for the nuts and bolts, but I also have no idea what this spring would equate to in metric. I haven't had much luck buying springs online as sometimes they don't behave like I expect them to. Luckily the press will work without the springs... maybe I will try to engineer some 3d printed springs.

      @@someprintdude thats great, thanks for the feedback. I am rubbish with working springs out, I have gotten it wrong so many times when I have tried to source them. I look forward to making this in the near future.

    Is it possible to make this handle 9 inches wide paper?

    • @someprintdude
      @someprintdude  8 місяців тому

      I dont think it would be too hard. All you would need to do is make the top and bottom rollers longer in the middle. But I don't think it has the strength to print a 9 inch wide matrix

    This is amazing. I've been interested in doing linocut prints and this looks like it'll be a fun companion project. A few notes: (1) If you wrap your wheels in electrical tape, you can add a lot of friction. It's pretty surprising how much it adds. (2) You can probably get the rollers to print without supports if you make a hex axle that goes between your roller and your last gear, then just have a cavity in the bottom of your roller.

    • @someprintdude
      @someprintdude  9 місяців тому

      Two great ideas! Can't believe I didn't think of that. Maybe electrical tape on the bottom of the press bed so I can keep the slick look of the press intact. I'll give both a shot soon!

    • @ragingroosevelt
      @ragingroosevelt 9 місяців тому

      @@someprintdude If it ends up working for you, you can get some really wide electrical tape rolls (2", 4", etc).
