I know it's hardware from the 90s, but is this really al that intensive? I mean each model is simply a rectangle so the poly count has to be low, right?
2:04 the "psuedo-FOFs" used probably due to hardware/performance limitations are very visible here (notice how some of the terrain switches from reaching to the ceiling to the floor)
pretty clever how the third special stage ceeling around the borders changes height according to sonic’s Y position, since fof’s dont exist (right? right?!) i have just realized that this happens with multiple platforms too.
Hey, SSN, how many emerald tokens are there in the current demo? I'm not asking you to spoil their locations, but I'm curious whether it's just the same number as the vanilla zone, or if you can access all 7 stages in the demo. No worries if this is also a spoiler, I'm just asking to know whether I should keep looking. I've been playing the demo more than the PC version recently! (I'm not very good at looking 😅)
If you really want to do something different for the 32X's special stages, if the nights stages can't be done, maybe a SA/SA2 type "find the emerald in the map" under a time limit could work within most confines of vanilla doom engine. having a special map large enough to hold a handful of emeralds and spawn them at random each time (maybe one map with easier platforming for emeralds 1-4 and a second map for emeralds 5-7 with tighter platforming and more maze-like areas). minimizes level data and offers extensive usage for the existing tech.
@shalpp Specifically, the ones I found are the two normal ones in Act 1 (same places as 2.2), and the underwater one in Act 2 (Same place as 2.1, emblem in 2.2)
man, what about last 7 special stage? you are change them, or he will exist in 2.2 multiplayer version? and what about try with nights type for 32x, too laggy?
I am not sure if the 32X has enough grunt to handle the NiGHTS style special stages. They did remove the sloping platforms in regular levels. However, porting SRB2 to the 32X is an impressive feat! It goes to show that the old 32X had so much untapped potential.
Good Special Stage! but i think you can do more think like he gave his arm the Chaos Emerald and The Timer is so long all guys get the Chaos Emerald easly you can do like 120 Time
I miss these special stages, it's a huge shame that modern SRB2 abandoned them. Stages 6/7 especially were a good test of skill and made you earn your emerald. The NiGHTS special stages are consistently braindead easy.
I kind of like the NiGHTS stages. It makes emerald gathering less frustrating for people who just want to run through the game, while allowing people to keep practicing, get really good, find collectibles and rack up stupid scores, in my opinion.
I mean, they weren't abandoned, they're playable in 2.2 via multiplayer. Also have you TRIED to get an A Rank in some of the NiGHTS special stages? Some of them are brutal as hell man. Also I would hardly call beating them braindead easy. Sure if you've done them a few times you can beat them very consistently, but when you're a new player Special Stage 6 and especially 7 are hard as balls with all the obstacles.
The timbale and toms are terribly balanced in game - I think they might need to be down sampled to match the others (should also downsample the ring and spin sounds with interpolation before adding them into the game so they don't sound so grody as samples) ASIDE FROM THAT The middle part feels like it's from 1.08 and it's amazing
32X SRB is such a big deal.
2025 is going to be a big year for the 32X - 30 years later!
for the sega 32x, visually there is so much going on on this screen and it's crazy that the game is running even at this fps. fantastic job
the fps isnt even bad its like 20 minimum completely playable
I know it's hardware from the 90s, but is this really al that intensive? I mean each model is simply a rectangle so the poly count has to be low, right?
@vittosphonecollection57289 It's hardware from the 90's that was never even designed to be capable of running 3d games, so yes, this is impressive
@guillaumechau6082 But I thought the whole point of the 32x was giving 3D to the Genesis? Like Virtua Racing?
I guess the NiGHTS special stages are for the Saturn version XD
…You mean NiGHTS? NiGHTS *Into* Dreams is the full title.
@@Karnage233 ok I fixed it
@@ABUltra64 awesome, glad I could help ya out
@@Karnage233 "Nights" is also fine.
@@Karnage233its just more quicker to call it nights as that and NiGHTS is basically saying the same thing
AGHHHHH I MISSED THESE SPECIAL STAGES MAN!!!!
You releasing this made me realize I gotta finish my SRB2 Genesis Soundfont pack 😂😂😂😂😂
2:04 the "psuedo-FOFs" used probably due to hardware/performance limitations are very visible here (notice how some of the terrain switches from reaching to the ceiling to the floor)
Yea but I don’t think it will matter in the real levels too much though
This is what Sonic Xtreme might have looked like. This is the path 3D games of Sonic might have taken, but didn't.
pretty clever how the third special stage ceeling around the borders changes height according to sonic’s Y position, since fof’s dont exist (right? right?!)

FOFs exist, just not the rendering for them yet. 🙃
oh, alright
Fofs are already back? Its peak
@@ssntails
i didn't know these last 3 special stages existed
Time to go back to hunting!
@@ssntailshey do you know a 32X emulator on android?
@@ssntails did you hide them in new places in act 2? or is there more in act 1?
Did you get all those chaos emeralds?
Is that the old special stage theme?!
indeed it is. i hope the original music as a whole is an option in the next release
imagine both of castle eggman acts running on a 32x 💀💀
Love the Final Demo-era Special Stage theme! Started playing during the Final Demo 1.09.4 era.
I can’t see why the nights special stages couldn’t work on real hardware
But it would take a while to add it so are these special stages placeholders?
They sound really pleasing!
This cover's style sure sounds familiar...
really makes you think.
You know I am really curious if you guys ever discussed having Mega Mouse support for this. Is it even possibe?
its already supported in doom resurrection which i believe this is based on
Hopefully the full version has all the playable characters 😮
damn brought back the 2.0 special stages lmao

We’re still waiting for “redhotsonic” video about testing this game on real hardware
This song sounds like the one used in SRB2 v2.0, it turned out great in this 32X version
It is
Multiplayer Special Stage but without the Multiplayer
Huh, SS4 and 5 is in this? I was only able to find three of the tokens.
Look harder there's an extra in act 1 - the other one you missed is in a similar spot to the original
@shalpp Specifically, the ones I found are the two normal ones in Act 1 (same places as 2.2), and the underwater one in Act 2 (Same place as 2.1, emblem in 2.2)
You based the port around the latest version, yet used the Special Stages from older versions?
these could also just be the multiplayer versions of the special stages in 2.2 (which, though, are based off of the 2.0 ones)
This will be wild on Saturn
1:56 I think the turquoise color looks nicer than the original blue

is there any level select or something here to play all of those?
Love thiss
