How I survived 3 Months of Bad Weather While Moored on my Tiny Salboat
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- I give you the raw, unfiltered truth about three gruelling months of wind, rain and storms while moored on my 23 foot sailboat in New Zealand.
How do I stay positive?
How do I manage daily chores?
How expensive is it?
And most importantly, would I do it again if I had to start over?

Thank you so much for watching. I'll see you next time.
Top fan of this channel, how about doing a cooking video Mike, show us what you cook.
@@KB-ht2uf Hi, thanks for watching. Ok, I will make you something tasty 👍😃
@@mikeventura-nz good man😁
right on!
@@wolfemcgill6091 Haha cheers!👍😁
Same age as me 54, dont give up your still young. I lost my business a few years back and now half way through a math degree and working part time. I am also a sailor :).
@@charmer1979 Hiya! Hey thanks, I'm going to figure all this out sooner or later haha. All the best with your studies and future career 👍😀
Glad to hear you are tossing around the idea of part time work. I was going to suggest it a few days ago. It would take a massive amount of pressure off you and help you to keep the dream alive. Enjoyed the vid mate.
@@davidharlem6824 Thanks David. 👍
Spring is seen as good weather arriving, but is actually the worst season for unexpected wind, and rain and cool conditions .
I went out with Alex on his Variant ( well, hardstand to mooring at Bucklands Beach ) with the view to buy, but realised my
unfit state not capable to operate easily. Itz funny when u go inside, u just sit down straitaway, ( me ) so headroom is no prob.
Surprisingly spacious. Views of Rangitoto from mooring. Unlike boardinghouse now in . I admire yor positivenessness .
Cheers, Jerry .
@@jeremydow1432 Thanks Jerry! 😀
Mike , nice work keep em coming...
@@bradleywright4413 Thanks mate 👍😁
Thanks again for another great video Mike. Loving it and learning from it.
I plan on using everything i learned from your videos next summer when I try this adventure myself. Your videos are very , very inspirational to me.
Thanks 😊

@@markmoffett6813 Thanks Mark. It means a lot knowing this is helping you and other people 😀
Good onya Mike well done mate
@@petergrundy8081 Hey thanks Peter 😃
Eres mas❤
@@mariajosemorenoguerrero8638 Oh thank you 👍😄
I'm currently on the south coast of the UK... We get bad weather 12 months per year!
Or it at least feels like it 😁
If you've befriended anyone in the marina!? You should ask them to take you out for a few sailing lessons in you're boat.
Us sailors look after each other! Bet theres plenty of old sea dogs there that wouldnt mind teaching you!
Once you've got some experience, you'll have the confidence to live on anchor!
A free way of living and better views in some cove around New Zealand's beautiful coastline, rather than a marina's dock ⚓
@@ClanGunnBushcraft I'm not in a marina but I do take your point about moving from this area. 👍😀
I can see myself doing the exact same thing as you are doing. Keep it up you will figure it all out:)
@@elidioguilherme3447 Thank you. I wish you all the best with your plans too 👍😃
Yo también vivo a bordo. Ya va para diez años
@@mariajosemorenoguerrero8638 Gracias, ya pasó mucho tiempo! 👍😁
Good on ya mate your giving it a go your on the rite track summer coming yeha.
@@grantmoulton9115 Hey Grant. I'm definitely all in that's for sure. Cheers 👍😃
Good job Mike. Great to hear your ideas using your skills especially helping out the older community ashore. Very rewarding not just financially for you but meeting the care and contact for them.(Community notice board note) I've been self employed builder for 35+years. All work word of mouth, recommendations. Question; does your boat need any sort of survey yearly? Cheering for you Eddie 😎🙏
@@EdwinMonk Thanks Eddie. It would only need a survey if I was trying to get insurance for it, which I am not planning to do. Hey I have massive news for this week. Not going to spill the beans just yet but.... 😁
UA-cam channels are mostly slow at first, but keep on at it and showing you're adventures.
Look at other sailing channels and how they raise funds... patron, buy me a coffee, sponsors, plugging gear, donations etc.
They'll always be a small percentage of you're followers that would be happy to help.
A couple of channels you should look at how they earn...
Bumbling sailor.
Wildling sailing.
@@ClanGunnBushcraft Thanks so much for your suggestions. I love the bumbling sailor 👍😁
@@mikeventura-nz
He's a good man! I'm at his home port of Waymouth... Think hes in Scotland!?
Small new channel, but he's bringing in decent money now and it'll only grow
Interesting... I've been reluctant to ditch my car and move away until these equinoxial gales quit but they never seemed to end. Time to get my car stored somewhere and slip the lines 😁
@@mikeventura-nz
I class my dingy as my car nowadays 😁
@@mikeventura-nzThe sailing brothers is worth watching. They show details when doing repairs etc.
so inspiring how you manage this adventure with the "ups and downs" 😅
you are a great example, not that everyone needs to start sailing, but your attitude to life is great and you make the most out of life.
love your Channel name, definitely the right one!
Always reminds my of ace ventura (back in the days one of my Favorite psytrance artists)
Keep it up!🙂
@@fearlesslivemore222 Thank you so much 😃

Hi Mike. When do you start making money from you tube? Is it just subscribers etc?
@@Frazemac1A channel needs 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of total watch time. I have about 1000 hours as of today 😀
@@mikeventura-nz ok good luck mate
Good to see you looking happy and positive and to see your subscriber count slowly ticking up.
Do you always manage to get ashore? Id imagine that gets a bit tricky during strong wind days?
@@jamesdavis8425 Thanks for the great question, James. Sometimes it just seems too risky despite only being about 200 metres in a straight line. When it's really bad I just stay hunkered down and wait it out. 👍😀
With boat maintenance, everything's going to take longer than you think...that's just how it is. The value is higher as well.
There are ways you can damp down the rolling and pitching while at anchor, if you haven't tried those, they may help.
Thank you, Michael. It's all new to me and I appreciate all tips and suggestions 😃
@@mikeventura-nz Tom Cunliffe has a good video on a weight suspended mid anchor rode to reduce pitching, and there is a method of suspending a sea anchor like object from your boom, out to one side, to dampen the rolling motion.
I anchores out lasst week for one night and the weather and waves came in. I felt ao sea sick it was awful, It must be tough when your rolling.
@@charmer1979 I haven't felt sick at all despite the rockin and rollin... had my share of that when I was younger though. Not a pleasant experience but it brings the fish 🐠🐠🐠 😁
Friends, true friends are extremely hard to come by. If you do find one, consider yourself lucky. Most of the people you'll meet will be either acointances or or simply co-workers type of friends. Not that they are not friendly, just that I wouldn't talk to them about real personal stuff.
@@charlesmigneault7918 Thanks Charles, I totally agree 😀
