A scream shatters the peace of night. He is needed. He appears before his young princess in all his splendor. Golden armour from head to toe, massive shield in the left hand and glorious sword in the right. Before them his foe, one of the many foul beings that lurk in the darkness. He doesnt care what it is, all he knows is it must be defeated to save his princess., She is small now unable to handle the world on her own. Time goes by, whenever she needs him, he is there, no questions asked no answers needed. Evidence of his battles seem to mount, these monsters get stronger as she gets older. The armour no quite so shiny any more, a few holes seem to jarr its beauty, but it still strong when she needs her guardian. She needs him less and less now. Finally its been several years since her last call for help and these years have not been kind, he sits in his home, no armour here now, his shield worn out and beaten, in the distance he hears that sound and knows its his time. He reaches behind himself and grasps his blade, the only remanant of his glory but the only one that matters, sharper now than it has even been, honed through time and battle. He appears as he always has, between his princess and her foe, She is no child anymore but a beautiful Queen. His body is bent, his vision is weak, but he is needed again. He straightens his back with an iron will, he holds his blade and begins his dance. She looks at that old back, one thats always supported her, showing up everytime he's needed. she sees him as he truly is once again. Not that old man with more white than grey hair, not the torn and worn out clothes or the hands crippled with rheumatism, no she sees her Knight. Gleaming armour, shield unmovable, blade unstoppable and through the tears that stream from her eyes, she can see his smile. As the fight reaches its crescendo he strikes the final blow, and almost at the same time he and his blade fall to the floor. she rushes to his side in time to hear his final words "Don't worry, I will be there next time too" and with a final breath he is gone, she looks up in time to see her fathers heart monitor to go flat.....
