  • In this tutorial I focus on reading the pattern charts for interlocking crochet. I used this drawing technique for designing the Hooked and Locked CAL, and people requested for more explaining about how to exactly read the pattern charts. Of course that was mentioned in the video’s about crocheting the CAL, but the focus was more on the crocheting itself there. So this time the focus on interpreting the charts. Super easy once you know how to do it! This way you can crochet this yourself without the need of written instructions, when you find patterns on the internet, or you can write them yourself if you want.
The instructions are also on my website, so that you can read it again easily: www.thecraftst....

In the first 5 minutes of your explanation, all the lights came on for me. I have a chart that I've been dying to try and now I will due to your fabulous information. Thank you so much!

You are amazing. no one has explained reading interlocking charts clearly and sufficiently as you did. Thank you so much. You are a talented teacher with a very clear and cozy voice as well as a talented crocheter.

Thank you so much for your excellent tutorial! Can I convert a mosaic pattern to interlocking? I have also found that if I start color B at the end I finished color A I have less problems with whether to put my ending B in front or back of A. It is always at the end with both colors, so it is easy to fix without tearing out an entire row.

I have started the practice piece and know that I was struggling with making sense of the chart to match the video and written instructions. I have not begun the main piece (finishing WIP!) but I am so appreciative of this video and the huge amount of assistance and tutorials you have created to support us in this wonderful project. Thank you.

Hi Carolina. Thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry but I do not have tutorials on creating your own charts. But you could take a look on this page to see if you can figure it out :-) : www.thecraftsteacher.com/en/crochet/hooked-and-locked-cal/interwoven-crochet-special-reading-pattern-charts/.

Thank you Candice. I use my own built software for this. It is not for sale. Maybe one day, but it's for my personal use only at the moment.
