    Most of those hubs are not completely water tight. Don't forget to put a breather hole on the hub and put some WD-40 in the hub so water doesn't rust the iron plates that would eventually condense some water from hot and cold expansion. Dielectric grease on your connections would be another good idea so you don't let the water and electricity de-electroplate(electropolish) the thin coatings on the plugs.

    Great job, I tried to do the same at my house but did not have enough water flow,
    You could convert a gas tractor to battery power, charge it from your water wheel and also use the batteries to run power in the house when not cutting!
    This is my tractor conversion,
    2hrs cutting approx 2 acres or 8-10 hrs pulling trailer on a charge
    Converting to battery power is a great idea for a garden tractor I converted one 15yrs ago, I used the 3 separate motor design and it is still cutting grass on a daily basis, it is amazing how it never breaks down and needs almost no maintenance, I renew the batteries every 7 yrs I am just on my 3rd set now, my design will cut up to 2 acres on a 50cent charge there are no belts or pulleys and no oil on the entire tractor, it can pull a trailer for about 8hrs on a charge, because battery run time is the most important aspect of most conversions I paid particular attention to the most efficient design, I used 3 separate small motors one for the drive with electronic speed control and two smaller with a cutter blade mounted on the shaft of each cutter motor ,total amperage when cutting grass is approx 40amps, (2000watts) this design only uses the battery power req to do the job, very little wasted battery power, it uses magnetic breaking of both tractor and cutter blades and automatically applies parking brake when you stop or get off the seat, an amazing tractor.

    voltage is not power. The voltage reading is meaningless without a load on it and without knowing current.

    Not to rain on your project, but all the spray you see around the spoons is energy lost and in a perfect world, the exit speed of the water should be as little a possible.
    You can buy fully balanced, properly shaped Peltons for $40 on eBay. If you try to power something that would be a better choice.
    Thanks for posting the video

    Use the 14 Volts to power up a Fan at Hi Speed the fan should have a funnel in which the power of Air truen the wheel at hi speed then cycle the electricity to run the wheel I suppose you may generate more power in which you can split it to run the Fan and other equipments, this way use the water to start it up then shut the water down. it's worth the effort.

    be sure to put a bridge retifire or when you connect to battery. or it will run as a motor .this keeps voltage from running backwards the ac in just hook itto that an + n - still stay the same. you will drop 1-1/2 volts also make sure to heat sink it it will get warm then you can charge the battery only thing is its not regulated however 2 ways to go it either electronic or the speed of pelton wheel.

    E-Bikes run on 48 to 96 Volts.
    You are not getting anywhere near that.
    Something is wrong.
    And if you hook that up to a battery to charge it, the voltage is going to drop by 50% depending on the load.

      A Pelton wheel is driven by a yet of pressurized water from a pipe. It doesn't matter how fast the stream runs, what you need is enough head to build the pressure in the pipe.

    have you thought about laying the wheel over so there is less friction, think of all the amount of energy lost in having to lift all those spoons up after they are soaked in water, if you were to lay the wheel over do you think it would become more efficient?

    • @paradiselost9946

      The whole idea is the water.STOPS and the blade(spoon) then recedes at half the velocity the water left the nozzle.
      This means the water falls off the blade. It doesnt get carried around. Other than a slight film.
      Considering the shape of the spoons though, the jet should be hitting the side of the spoons and "falling" out the other side of the wheel. Ie, a "turgo".

Or maybe making huge fan blades for it then like someone said on here. use a regen controller and dial in regen current so the fan can still move. ua-cam.com/video/MJxBshI2qtA/v-deo.html This is as far as I got with it. I built this project to power a small cabin I found in the woods. It was over grown and run down, so I started fixing it up. Then I found out it was on private property. I stopped the restoration and with it the hydro project. I also have 2 young kids now so my woods roaming days are on hold! I still have the little genny though!

    This setup will not produce much power in this setup because its a brushless motor. You could capture much much more power with this motor if you enable regenerative braking in the controller. If it doesn't have this option you need to buy 1 that does. It could put out close to 500w with regen and a 36v/48v battery.
    But in its current config it will only produce a few watts at best.

    • @ryanonthevedder
      @ryanonthevedder  10 років тому

      You are correct in suggesting that it doesn't produce much power, but how would a regen controller help? 500W is a lot considering the water I have. Regen brakes rely on a 150-200lb person to push out power down a hill. The water jet I was using only puts out 8-10 pounds. More power will come from mechanical sources, and not advanced circuitry IMO. I am certainly open to new info, so please hit me with knowledge.

    • @mushymelon
      @mushymelon 10 років тому

      A programable infineon controller can be setup in slipstream mode for variable regen using an ebike throttle and Ebrake.. It can capture power from all three phases and charge a 24 - 100v dc battery. You would need some type of high voltage cutoff or battery management system as to not overcharge the battery.
      Solar controller would work too.
      With variable regen you could dial in the load to match all the kinetic energy you can capture. I don't know for sure if the smallest amount of regen will stall your motor, but it can be modified to work.
      Your right that the system won't produce huge watts with the current water supply setup. I just think that you will never know how much power you can harness without a controller of some type.

    Where did you get the ebike hub?
    Neat
    One suggestion -fasten the spoon impellers using the spoke nuts. I believe they are removable 'tubular' nuts. This would 'automatically' align/orient your impellers according to the 'factory' holes in the hub.
    Do these ebike wheels come in larger diameters? - or, could you simply find a larger diameter hub and longer spokes and fit a 26" hub to the ebike motor?
    It seems that a large diameter would improve (leverage) performance at any given flow rate. Offering, also, the advantage of moving the motor farther from the water source.

    • @ryanonthevedder
      @ryanonthevedder  7 років тому +1

      Great comment! I got the hub motor from a wrecked ebike. The front wheel was bent and the battery pack was fried and was sold for parts. If you look closely at the video you will see that I did use the spoke nuts to fasten the spoons. I also used a self tapping screw for each spoon. A larger diameter wheel will get more leverage from the input water but RPM suffers, which reduces the voltage. Thanks for watching!

    • @gooeytarballs
      @gooeytarballs 7 років тому

      "but RPM suffers"
      Is that something you have demonstrated experimentally?

    hey glenn good job sorry havent replyed in a while. what i was thinking to keep the wheel going is to have a plastic tank that will suck water out with a water pump and spray the spoons so the tank never runs out of water closed loop instead of using garden hose and waste water. a few things to experament is the pressure of pump and stream .they make bilge pumps for boats that run on 12 vdc .the second thing is to have a brdige rect radio shack sells them for a few bucks get the 25 amp 1 connect the pos and neg out from motor into ac in there will be a volt or more drop that will serve as a dc block so when connected to battery it cant run as a motor .also depending on speed you might need a regulator good for 20 amp you need a marine grade battery for long use car 1s dont work proper . and how much is the pump gona draw you need to test with meter. with pump connected to see under load how much it used an amp meter will tell you as long as the wheel generates enough to over come the pumps draw you can then charge a battery just make sure that its not over 13 volts never put 24-to 48 into a 12 volt it can boil it and could explode. if the generator has to much voltage then you need to put batterys in series its series for more volts or parallel for more amps. if a regulator is needed place it after rectifire + - in + - out make sure the bridge is heat sinked with compound and good size heat sink. any other need to know stuff you can contact me and i will see how to help can you read a schematic ? or do you have face book? so if i make you 1 i can send you a file. keep up good work.

      thnx
      I want the power equation how I calculate the dimension of the turbine and how I calculate the rotational speed I want a general study to build one like this

    • @ryanonthevedder
      @ryanonthevedder  7 років тому

      It has to do with the circumference of the wheel, the efficiency of the spoons and the velocity of the water hitting the spoons. Also if you have multiple water jets it will increase the amount of power you can generate. I dont have any equations for you though. You will have to ask google for that.

    • @zakariyaferchichi2258
      @zakariyaferchichi2258 7 років тому

      But how you know the turbine delivers 500w of power

    • @ryanonthevedder
      @ryanonthevedder  7 років тому +1

      I never said it made 500W. It is a 500W motor converted into a generator.

    Spend 80$ in materials ........ And it'll take 360 years to recover you cost.

    sem carga fica fácil...para carregar uma bateria teria de 20,5 v com circuito aberto , ai a roda ficaria muito mais pesada..

      Veja bem !! isto eh um motor e nao um gerador,, ele nao pode ligar isso na bateria sem um diodo de bloqueio e um retificador AC to DC,, se o faz o motor vai consumir a carga da bateria,, assim o proposito nao eh este.

    Open Circuit voltages mean fuck all...
    I promise you, throw a light bulb on that POS and it'll blip quickly full bright, then stall the wheel.
    Fail.
