The new owners of neopets within the last 1-2 years they added : - dailies (which fixed certain rare or useful items being overpriced by players/bot shops by just giving them to you for doing all dailies for a week) - temporary added support to nearly EVERY game and site page that needed flash until they can properly fix it - added a solution to unconverted pets without upsetting original UC pet owners and new neopet owns of the closet designs. - added events that not only worked with said dailies, but are currently doing one right now with the depressed shopkeepers. Bare in mind the previous owners in at least double that time added : - a mobile version of the site that was barely finished, about 1/10 of the site was even done. - Updated 4-5 games and a few wheels (last I checked) and left everything broken. - Had 2-3 security breaches where information was leaked online of people's accounts. To which instead of fixing it or giving out free items, they just said the exact same "we're sorry" each time. - Banned anyone trying to exploit methods to get an UC pet, even if they were breaking the rules and instead of hearing the fan cry for wanting them; just punished them. - Broke their own rules and even had some members get UC neopets themselves by breaking said rules and when caught.... banned anyone who mentioned it. - Due to the lack of flash support lots of sites and stories were broken, including the tutorial; which they did nothing to fix it. That's just the stuff I know, I didn't mention the weird cryptocurrency, mobile games that went nowhere and died, the weird forced advertising on the site and such due to not being certain they did it. But still, what the current neopets team has done compared to the previous one is outstanding! They did so much for the fans and I'm actually enjoying it as much as I did in 2004-2006! :D
oh a lot of very loud UC owners were just fucking furious tbh bc a lot of them had, this entire time, been wanting old ucs to remain untouched and get a trophy to distinguish them from 'new' ucs. but overall the majority of the playerbase is pleased and neopets has been shockingly... good! after over a decade of watching it slowly rot i'm feeling really hopeful for the first time in a long time.

I finally got a UC plushie blumaroo thanks to this 😭I'm so happy! And it's not just the UC fix but the fact they seem pretty determined to make the site a better place. I grew up loving Neopets so it means so much that the current team still gives a damn.
I think it's wonderful. This was long needed and I think it it's a nice compromise. There is still value to the styles, especially with them coming and going in waves so I think it is the best way they could have done this
honestly, I still find myself enjoying Neopets Classics much more than the original for the simple fact that the site's UI is consistent ☺ They also add new stuff on the regular and its all very cohesive with the neopets lore!
I really hope they put out a new FAQ/rules page since most rules are cobbled together from various former companies mentioning things in editorials. I also hope they redo the forums entirely at some point. That is a lawless place and so user unfriendly. People are clamoring for the staff to update the quest log and the nostalgic styles as soon as they're done and acting like the staff just dont care when it's really not been available that long. Though with the nostalgic pets I do hope they add morphing potions because a lot of those prices are in the millions for basic species changes due to the nostalgic release x_x
Comment for the algorithm! I am loving the neopets optimism I really hope retired avatars come back to make avatar collecting possible. I am trying to fix some of the broken shockwave games to get those avatars and it is so frustrating that some just cannot be fixed despite the guides out there. So it kinda ruins the goal of ever getting the avatar collector achievement since it’s based on high scores.
Excellent set-up. Excellent video. Leading up to NCUCs there is a very vocal minority that gets upset. But, post release, these voices disappeared, yet the site is more active than ever, which I view as a sign that the majority is enjoying the ability to finally attain their dreamies :)

Neopets has had such a strong revival for me I'm lucky enough to have recovered my original account, it's 24 years old, and I've always had a soft spot for Neopets, even though I took a very long break from it the entire UC pet artwork was such a sore spot for me for MANY years, I nearly quit back when they first introduced customization because I thought the new artwork was so ugly and lacking any personality then of course at some point my account was hacked and some of my original pets stolen, which made me even less likely to play anymore but with the help of their support staff (shockingly, after the stories I've heard), I was able to recover a lot and now I'm happily working my way toward remaking some old dreamies I never had the chance to earn when I was a kid, it feels great, and I feel passionate about my pets and account again!

If it wasn't for that I'd probably be back on Neopets right now, and maybe one day the nostalgia will hit again. They really nailed it by naming those styles "nostalgic" cause that's a huuuuuge thing they can use for marketing now for millennials and gen z/a who want to know what the fuss was all about. even though I haven't played in a long time and might not ever be back I love these breakdown videos because I find the logistics of game theory really intriguing. thanks and excited for future vids!
I adore this video and the clear love for Neopets when they've done well. I used to LIVE on the site as a child, a teen and even as a new adult until the games disappeared, key quest stopped working, and (insert common woes of betrayed users everywhere). My old account was deactivated as well: pets, trophies, track record, coding all down the drain, and I felt so unmotivated to start totally from scratch. The new ownership of the site has made me feel like those things would never be allowed to happen again, and that those gaps in communication would be deemed unacceptable. I'm genuinely excited to start using the site again this year!

I love the video! The alien version is going to be a permanent addition, like the MSPP. Baby, Maraquan, and Plushie are the styles that are "seasonal".

I expected UCs to cost money, but I assumed the pets would retain their color and get UC-ified. Being able to log in day one and have your blue pet appear darigan just doesn't seem like it's in the spirit of the site whatsoever. (in b4 someone says "but it says the color on the pet lookup" like anyone is ever actually looking at those)
