Decades ago, I was a frequent user of HK - USP & Sig 226 platforms. They were duty weapons. Until 3 years ago, I only had a couple of personally owned Sig & HK pistols in 9mm, 40 & 45. With my more recent acquisitions, I now have just about every pistol caliber. These are from FN, Springfield, CZ, Glock, Ruger, etc., and (of course) my old faithful aforementioned brands. Every weapon was fully researched and extensively shot/tested before a purchasing decision was made. Amongst many variables, the primary factor was build quality followed closely by what I envisioned their application specific / service use would be. Brand name was largely irrelevant as most modern day pistol builds offer relatively high build quality. Each one I own is a highly quality firearm / proven effective platform. Having said that, my experience with the Arex Zero 1s has been nothing short of stellar. Though the Sig 226 and its variants remain high quality pistols for sure, the Arex Zero 1 is IMO a better firearm than the Sig 226 especially when considering the environments/applications where I would select to use that weapon.
The Rex Zero 1 is just a rebranded Zastava cz99. This pistol went through about a decade of wars in the Balkans in the 90s and early 2000s. We're talking about more intense combat than any of the recent wars in the Middle East, so the Rex Zero 1 is actually probably more battle-proven than any Sig.
@Rat Tail Boy you just stuck your foot in your mouth. I was an 11B 2005-2009. I served in 1/502nd Inf 2 BCT 101st Air Assault. I've deployed 2x to Iraq (2006 and 2007-2008). The first deployment was to Yusufiyah, in the so-called triangle of death. During the second deployment I served in the scout platoon call sign Mohawk (hint that's where the handle comes from). I've also deployed to Afghanistan in the summer of 2013 as DoD civilian employee. I'm quite sure I've seen more actual combat than you. Bought my REX about 9 days ago. Put 400 through it the first day, next day another 200. Absolutely fantastic. Smooth shooting, and very, very accurate (point of aim) and zero malfunctions. I find the trigger pull quite manageable for me, even the DA at 13 lbs. Smooth and not gritty. Replaced the factory grips with Hogue G10 in FDE from K-Var. Made the looks of the firearm to really "pop". Also picked up 2 additional new mags for the REX for just $25 each. I am actually considering changing my EDC to the REX from my P320/APEX. I found the reliability test on the REX and P226 done by Military Arms Channel and 1000 rnds in 14 mins to be quite interesting. Never thought the REX would out perform the P226 consistently. (Enjoy your channel and I value your opinion.). I will say if the REX begins to impact the U.S. Market, how long will it be before SIG files a lawsuit seeking an injunction? Just sayin'.
Internet endurance, performance, or torture tests should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not trying to imply that the tests are not legitimate and as objective as possible - but they are simply limited to one copy, one day, etc. They do provide useful information and certainly entertainment, and I also enjoy watching MAC and have for years. The REX is a gun that came to play, that's for sure. Thanks for watching!
Justin Opinion MAC used MULTIPLE flavors of the 226 of which ALL severely underperformed and even did retests just to be even more fair to sig fan boys.

Might be late to the party but I was set on a legion p226 for my next purchase and like almost anything I buy online I do my due diligence researching usually in the form of UA-cam and after seeing that torture test I’m super torn do I want to spend double on a staple brand of pistol that maybe a little more refined, is battle tested and reliable, it’s got a better trigger, grips, and sights and no external safety and a de-cocker. On the other hand although it’s a copy of the design sig should have all the credit for but arex does an amazing job putting their touch on it And in turn making a sig look unreliable In that test. The Rex is the logical and functional choice but the draw of the sigs recognitions and name alone won’t let me pull the trigger on the Rex

I purchased a Rex Zero 1 S last week, took last Friday off work to spend some time at the range to get familiar with. My thoughts: what a great shooting pistol! I had the range weaponsmith change out the grips and it felt so much better. If you get a chance to get on, grab it.
Thanks for the great review. I enjoy your gun reviews more than any others on youtube. You don't fill your vids with a lot of unnecessary BS. The photography is great and most importantly, I feel like I'm getting an honest evaluation on the guns, as opposed to a paid endorsement disguised as a "gun review". I know from Shot Show coverage that AREX is planning on importing a compact version of the gun this year and both versions are going to be available with G-10 grips from the factory. I'd love to see a review of the compact version. Thanks again.
It may have been Justin Opinion but I really enjoyed the video. Thank you for making it. Picking up my Rex Zero 1 on Saturday. New grips should be here by then too.
This video is older, and it’s still a great video but now the arex zero 1 has a tactical MODLE ontop of having a larger after market, like the short rest trigger on the sig there is one for the arex now on global ordnance , I just installed it , 100% adjustable as well , the grips have been changed over the years the stock ones are actually really nice but houge makes some good ones for it as well, ontop of a few other places , if you are looking for a more “ extreme hammer fired handgun arex did release the alpha which is loaded with customizable parts from hammer springs to trigger pull anything you would want , arex is just a cheaper sig with a smaller aftermarket i due enjoy all my arex handguns even owning a couple of sig sauer guns i usally end up carrying my arex delta and zero the most
So I like the idea of having the slide release incorporated into the decocker for the sole reason that it's in the "traditional" slide-release position (vs the 226/229 where it feels awkwardly back and you need to break your grip). Only issue is I imagine you'd be likely to also decock the hammer when using it, which in itself is kinda awkward.
4 years of use and I haven't had that happen to me. The release pressure and decock pressures are so different in feel that I think you operate it subconsciously without that being an issue.
@@2S1L3NT I agree. I rest one thumb on the safety and one thumb on the slide release when shooting. The two mechanisms feel different and it's one of my favorite features of the gun.
The Rex is interesting, and I might have wanted one if I didn't already have a P226 Two Tone, also with the short trigger reset. I picked up 2, 17-round mags for it, so there goes that advantage. If your 226 is n you top 3 favorites, what are the other 2? I enjoy your videos! Keep 'em coming!
I own a arex zero 1 T and I absolutely love it trust and and would buy another over the sig 226 again and again. As far as double action trigger pull. The one thing everyone fails to mention is that arex has given the shooter the option of carrying the gun safely and Sig does not offer that option. If your not going to offer the option of cocked and Locked then to be a highly rated gun you need to have a lighter double action. I personally do not see any fault with the arex double action trigger pull. Very accurate with the double action. Most time first shot is more accurate than the 2nd.
I'm looking at buying a Sig M11-A1 to be my EDC, I've shot it and fell in love with the grip and tripper pull, and the way the weight sits in my palm( mostly the trigger pull honestly). how do you think the Rex compact compares to the M11-A1?
I think both are great pistols. I never really understood people who are fan boys of a specific brand or whatever or why people diss other guns. I wouldn't mind having both.
K-var now has G10 grips for the Arex in 3 colors, I got the black/gray similar to you P226. The DA pull is a heavy 13lbs as rated from Arex but I think mine has lightened and smoothed out a little after about 800 rounds now.
I have a set of the grips on order. I went FDE just for contrast and visual interest - we'll see. I don't mind the DA pull, it's heavy but smooth. Thanks for watching!
Working with the Slovians I saw a sample size of about 200. They did a range with us over 3 days that consumed over 1000 rounds. Our M9s where..... well they sucked. But their Rex Zero 1s where so impressive I bought one after my tour in Germany (where I was stationed with 2CR) was complete. Saw the SEALs shooting the 226 as well but.... they are seals. Give them muskets and see if things dont work out fine for them. Those guys can shoot!
I love both guns but I can’t help to think that Sigs, just like the Glocks, have inflated prices just for their name. However, I can justify Sig’s prices more over Glocks.
I'm definitely going to buy one. I'm just waiting on my dealer to get the tactical model in so I can run my Trirant 9 suppressor on it. I'm a huge M&P guy but Tim from Military Arms channel got me anxious for one.
what a great review of both these fine pistols I really love the Sig P226 I have one myself in .357sig caliber and I'm really looking forward to seeing the REX in gun stores near me soon do you know what calibers the REX will be available in? thx and I subscribed today
Great comparison! Full disclosure: A P226 is my dream pistol. Had a look at an Arex Zero 1 but that double action trigger pull is too heavy IMO. Overall fit and finish just not in the same class as the SIG. Also the SIG has some of the best sights out of the box, the Zero 1 sights are mediocre. SIG 226 combines the finest grip comfort, sights and standard trigger of any pistol I know of, so the higher price is justified IMO.
Sig is gonna lose alot of business over A Rex ! There has been alot of torcher tests on both and the rex seems to win all the time! I had a German 226 years ago and I doubt if the new sigs are any better than that!
My first thoughts are go with sig . But I heard good things about rex. I could definitely hear a difference in the triggers right off the bat but as you're mentioning it beautiful things come from Sylvania particularly women
You should compare apples with apples u have a sig that retails at about 1200 dollars new and the Rex at about 600. I would say that the Rex must be pretty good if u r competing it to the sig
I believe you appreciate the Sig platform as much as I do, so I'll tell you about one I just recently acquired that different than any I've seen. Perhaps you have seen the Sig P220's that were imported by Browning between 77-79 prior to Sig getting their own license to import their product. On one side the slide is stamped Sig Sauer system made in West Germany and the other Browning Arms. They import 2500 of these, mine is a 78 version. The slide, frame and barrel are all serialized and match. The gun appears to have been in a safe the last 39 years as they're are no wear marks, not even on the follower in the mag has a scratch on it. I've stripped it down and used a Qtip trying to find traces of carbon and found nothing. I've oiled the heck out of it as it was bone dry. I'll wipe it down and do it properly before shooting it. It has the European mag release in the heel and fixed sights. Neither of which bother me in the least, I believe it's a very unique gun but not necessarily a really valuable one. I'm just happy to have it. I bought my first Sig in 87 and this one stands out (to myself anyway). Anyway I've been watching your videos recently, good stuff btw. You might know more about the Browning Sig deal than I do. If so I'd appreciate any information you could pass on.
Proven? I came here after Hikock45 video, and unless I misunderstood, or he misspoke, rated and tested at 30,000 rounds of +P by Slovenia military. I've owned two chromed barrel guns for 50 years and many thousands of rounds, everything but the barrels shows wear and tear, barrels are both pristine after 30 years salt Marsh use. Justin, great in depth as always demo of a very compelling firearm!
I was really speaking from the perspective of the U.S. market, but you're right - just because it's been proven somewhere else doesn't make the proof any less valid. After all, at one time SIG was an exclusively foreign gun, too.
gpb the point of my comment was to say that the Zero 1 having a capacity greater than the P226 is misleading. The mags the Zero 1 comes with is not truly flush fit like the mags the 226 comes with from the factory. The comparable mags to the Zero 1 mags would be the 18 rd Mecgar mags for the P226 that are semi-flush fit, which are 18 rd capacity....
+Pete Hiller It's not better. No long term data to back that up at all. Just because MAC ran one or two tests with it spanking the Sigs doesn't mean they're better. Let's be real. When Rex proves in 5 to 10 years to be consistent maybe we can say that. Also, west german 226 have vastly better triggers than the REX. Like I said, when they're in the $400's I'll buy one. In the mean time, I'll stick to my CZ's.
Looks similar to a Zastava EZ9 and EZ9 compact... I had one.. sold it.. I like my Sig p220 better.. I wouldn't mind trying the Arex, but at $600?! Eek.. $400 might be worth it
Well lets see--you buy the Rex for $650 with a small company with no distrubution, no service, limited parts. Or you can buy a used factory reconditioned Sig with warranty for $550 or used police trade Sig for about $400 with a factory support, parts, service...oh why are we even debating this?????? A few years from now we will be buying these REX used for about $300.....from the suckers who bought them for $650..LOL
chad haire well actually they are the primary small arms manufactuer for Slovian with a "limited" warrenty. That is a good point about price but I think in this case it helps the Rex. Wait a bit and pick one up cheap. Where as the Sig brand name will keep that price a bit higher. Being able to walk into a store as a single mother, teenager, or new soldier (with money tight as it is) and pick up a quality handgun known as a realiable plaform and based on a proven system for around 600 dollars is a good thing. But if you already have a P226 I do not see the point in getting a Rex.
Small company? AREX Defense services armorers all across Europe. 6 years later, even the most beat up Rex Zeros are still selling for $450. GunBroker has hundreds of spare parts, sights, as does Global Ordinance. Excellent MecGar mags run $15 cheaper than SIGs. Not to mention the well-designed AREX Delta which melts away into your body with an AnR AIWB holster. Try again, Nostradamus.
@@wcstrawberryfields8011 A big company in EU doesn't mean crap in USA. Mecgar mags for $15 for AREX, $15 for the SIG too, same as the ones Sig sells for $45. Sig 226 is PROVEN with military and police....AREX is not. So YOU need to try again Goober.....
I would sub but that sticky moist smacking voice is driving me up a wall. as for the Rex the what you get for the price has no comparison. I've put 30,000 rounds threw mine and haven't had one malfunction from the firearm itself. Eats all ammo steel, aluminum, and brass plus every type of projectile no problem. I recommend this firearm to all and for 550 its worth the investment for a firearm that will last a lifetime!
Two Beautiful Things made in Slovenia.......ReXzero......Melania Trump....boooinnnnng! atleast....I hope your talking about Rex and Melania.... or I'm going to be embarrassed! lol
the arex is literally the most reliable gun on the planet if you go by mac's test... if youre going to carry one, keep the sig in the safe and take your rex.
If you want to talk about all around quality and be honest about it, the SIG is going to be a better option 10 out of 10 times. You can also get a stock P226 for $600-$650 new if you are patient and know how to get a deal. Metallurgy never comes up when guys do these reviews. The standards SIG uses when selecting their raw materials are vastly superior to most. I wounder if the next comparison review is going to be Highpoint -V- Glock. Total failure.
Sfer Tonoc I agree 1000% Put each in my hand at SHOT Show this year. Was zero impressed by the Rex, feels like cheap plastic grips and that's all I needed to see/feel can imagine they cheated out on everything else as well.
Yup but it is more improved than sig and obviously gorgeous gun out there.Sometimes clones are better than original just like kimber and ed brown these are colt’s clone
The safety is there only if you want to carry C'd & L'd. Otherwise you will never know it is there. You can NOT accidentally engage the safety due to the grips riding high next to the lever. I expect that a dao and a no safety version will find the light of day at some point.
Isnt comparing these two guns like comparing two of the same thing? I mean could the Rex be any more of a Sig clone? And not even a covert hide in the shadows kinda rip off. Its all out in the open not hiding the fact they had no new ideas, lets just do what Sig is doing.
You could look at it that way, but because they share so many attributes makes them perfect for a side-by-side comparison, IMHO. There are more differences than initially meet the eye, and I tried to point them out. In the end, it's a good quality handgun. Let's face it - we could say that every polymer pistol is a ripoff of Glock - which is a copy of H&K - but there's more to it than that. That's my perspective.
@@wcstrawberryfields8011 Wrong son. I held both at SHOT SHOW when they had a booth down the aisle from Sig. Total POS, saved me a lot if disappointment. Stop lying.
Rex Zero beats it. How much more obvious can you get. you are promoting the sig here. ?? how about quality(military arms torture test between the two) cost, between the two?? you really blew this video. When, (& it is because I checked) the Rex zero comes with the compact,/10 rnd. version, I'll buy that over the Sig any day. Sig is done & selling out to polymer/plastic, & that's failing if you're honest with reports. Sig is NO LONGER SIG. They have drunken the kool-aide. $$$$$ over "SOLID" quality. Yeah, I'm talking about the P320. It's in great competition, with other guns, but lowering it's standards to it's self!!!!!!! And Rex Zero has figured out how to beat them in the polymer game. because the P320 doesn't beat the Rex Zero. not even close. Sig should Stay Sig. I'm buying a P239 (7+1) because it's "SOLID" . I'm buying the Sig p239 357sig ,over a Glock 23 & then extra glock 32 barrel. (much cheaper) because I want Sig quality. and a gun that fits my hand (Smaller) Notice I'm not buying the P320 because it has , a convertable smaller frame, or 3 more rounds capacity. Because it's not a "SOLID" SIG SAUER. But Rex has it over Sig. in the torture test didn't i? I'm carrying for first: reliability, and the Rex wins. Nice TRY THOUGH
Certainly not on purpose. I haven't watched anything of his in ages. Actually, I watch very few of the "big" channels. I just try to be me and do my thing.

chris settles we were talking about the FDE grips from K-Var for the Arex's
Big Johnson Guns & Gear the grips are nice. they will have more soon and a 17 round mag for the compact.
should add in a $300 cz999 too since it is the template for the Rex
YES
Love my friends Arex I went in to look at it and put it on payment plan it was the last one they had he bought it imstead
Military Arms channel has proven that the Arex Zero is better than the Sig p226
So did Al Gore.
He may have proven how a sample size of one each handled mud and sand, but as far as being better? Nah...
Those guys can shoot!
yeah but mcgar 18s and 20s are alot better then the us made sig mags anyway
K-var has Hogue G10 grips available and they make all the difference. I have them on mine and it is no longer too slippery.
I love both guns but I can’t help to think that Sigs, just like the Glocks, have inflated prices just for their name. However, I can justify Sig’s prices more over Glocks.
You bought your Rex right after mine. SN is 1 right after mine.
Nice. We should agree that if either decides to sell his, the other gets first bid. Sequential serial numbers is always cool. :-)
Great shooting. Great pistols.
I enjoy your random comments from literature history
;-)
I'm definitely going to buy one. I'm just waiting on my dealer to get the tactical model in so I can run my Trirant 9 suppressor on it. I'm a huge M&P guy but Tim from Military Arms channel got me anxious for one.
what a great review of both these fine pistols I really love the Sig P226 I have one myself in .357sig caliber and I'm really looking forward to seeing the REX in gun stores near me soon do you know what calibers the REX will be available in? thx and I subscribed today
Rex for the win!
Justin... Are these compact firearms? I'm more in to compact sub compact firearms for CCW.
AREX makes a compact version - the Zero 1 cp.
www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2016/11/22/exclusive-arex-rex-zero-1-cp-compact-9-mm-review/
David Giles thank you i have it marked. That might be my next gun
At the beginning of the video it looked like the two guns were arguing.
Did he talk at all about the controls? A bit of a difference there in what they do and usability.
Hardly a fair comparison. In 2022 you can make the Rex just as good as that nicely worn in Custom Sig you are comparing it to🤙
Love my extreme but wouldnt mind a rex too
Sig is gonna lose alot of business over A Rex ! There has been alot of torcher tests on both and the rex seems to win all the time! I had a German 226 years ago and I doubt if the new sigs are any better than that!
You mentioned your SIG is in your top 3. What are the other two...just curious. Thanks as always.
The other two are my kunai and my shurikens.
If so I'd appreciate any information you could pass on.
nice channel I just subscribed
Thanks! Welcome aboard.
The Sig has an external extractor. Assuming the REX has an internal extractor and where is it.
Bob Hartman Google cz999 slide undersize. it is the gun Rex copied
thank you.
I don’t really care if they are battle tested, what I care is if they will let you down when you need it the most. Your own combat situation.
Weaker spring or not that ejection looks far more aggressive than the Sig.
After all, at one time SIG was an exclusively foreign gun, too.
very nice video. Keep up the good work ;-)
Rex killed the sig on the Mac channel......ill take the rex any day over sig, sig is way overrated!!
You are quite the sharpshooter!
Love my arex
He didnt zero out the gage for the rex trigger correctly. Watch the video its at 0.7 before he pulls so minus 0.7 from the rex so its 5 lb 3 oz
The SIG's trigger is more enjoyable... end of debate.
Yes is true but if it stops working if u need it , i have arex and sig 226 tacops but arex never stops without cleening
The mags the Rex comes with look identical to the 18 round P226 mags from Mec gar. In that aspect, the P226 has the Rex beat by 1 round.....
nope. neither SIG or AREX make their own mags. mags for both brands are made by same company. Greets from Slovenia
gpb the point of my comment was to say that the Zero 1 having a capacity greater than the P226 is misleading. The mags the Zero 1 comes with is not truly flush fit like the mags the 226 comes with from the factory. The comparable mags to the Zero 1 mags would be the 18 rd Mecgar mags for the P226 that are semi-flush fit, which are 18 rd capacity....
Well it looks like you still ended up shooting one of them first
I hate to say it but for half the price the rex wins.
Does the AREX discharge when dropped...lol.😂
There is no comparison with sig p226 9mm extreme at all. The sights, grips, Tigger, decocker.
I might buy a Rex when they drop the price down. No way I'm paying their asking price on these. Rather just have a real Sig.
;)
I am currently "working" on my Rex Trigger. Drop 4 lbs from it, will be CZ sweet!
BosanaCZ but the Rex is better
+Pete Hiller
It's not better.
+Darrell Latham
that's awesome. keep us updated. the trigger is horrendous on it now.
why would I want to listen to that God awful trigger reset all day? that's almost as loud as the firing.
Looks similar to a Zastava EZ9 and EZ9 compact... I had one.. sold it.. I like my Sig p220 better.. I wouldn't mind trying the Arex, but at $600?! Eek.. $400 might be worth it
Was there any difference in felt recoil?
Not significant.
Perfect
rex triggers are nice
Nowhere near as nice as a Sig SRT trigger.
I like Rex Zero 1 ...
Arex blew it by putting a safety on a 14 pound DA trigger....Give me a SIG with an SRT.
the safety allows you to carry it cocked and locked tho
@@jakewes6642 z
@@wcstrawberryfields8011 A big company in EU doesn't mean crap in USA. Mecgar mags for $15 for AREX, $15 for the SIG too, same as the ones Sig sells for $45. Sig 226 is PROVEN with military and police....AREX is not.
So YOU need to try again Goober.....
Hey guys! I just bought a clone Ferrari, and it blew the doors off an Enzo and it was cheaper too!!! LMAO!
If you don't believe this story is true ask the blind man he saw it 2
I would sub but that sticky moist smacking voice is driving me up a wall. as for the Rex the what you get for the price has no comparison. I've put 30,000 rounds threw mine and haven't had one malfunction from the firearm itself. Eats all ammo steel, aluminum, and brass plus every type of projectile no problem. I recommend this firearm to all and for 550 its worth the investment for a firearm that will last a lifetime!
First shot with the sig dead center!!!!
Ha! Love the dummy comments. Great video! Keep it up.
He still shot the Rex first. Js
The Sig is longer.
Two Beautiful Things made in Slovenia.......ReXzero......Melania Trump....boooinnnnng! atleast....I hope your talking about Rex and Melania.... or I'm going to be embarrassed! lol
Akrapovic exhaust is prettier than both
Yeah but you shot the rex zero first
I'll just stick with my sig p226 legion
You shot the Rex first
the arex is literally the most reliable gun on the planet if you go by mac's test... if youre going to carry one, keep the sig in the safe and take your rex.
My rex feels cheap in my hand compared to my Sig 226. I would buy a used sig for price of new rex. Sig 226 is proven to abuse at all Vegas rentals.
Sfer Tonoc I agree 1000% Put each in my hand at SHOT Show this year. Was zero impressed by the Rex, feels like cheap plastic grips and that's all I needed to see/feel can imagine they cheated out on everything else as well.
The Rex is a clone Sig P226 😄👍
Yup but it is more improved than sig and obviously gorgeous gun out there.Sometimes clones are better than original just like kimber and ed brown these are colt’s clone
The gun is nice and the price is right, but I do not want to own a gun that has a safety, I am the safety
The safety is there only if you want to carry C'd & L'd. Otherwise you will never know it is there. You can NOT accidentally engage the safety due to the grips riding high next to the lever. I expect that a dao and a no safety version will find the light of day at some point.
the arex was the first.
El vídeo no es concluyente editaron y omitieron algunas partes del mismo 👎
Sig all day long
What a bunch of crap the Rex Zero feels like a cheap plastic toy compared to the Sig. Don't waste your money, Buy Once Cry Once.
Then you've never held one.
@@wcstrawberryfields8011 Wrong son. I held both at SHOT SHOW when they had a booth down the aisle from Sig. Total POS, saved me a lot if disappointment. Stop lying.
Prefer an American made Sig.
Huh. Every American with a SIG says "buy a German-made SIG."
?!?!
💀🕵Brazil
Quero ver essa zero 1 no Brasil.... vamos ver se vai vingar.
The CZ sp01 smokes them both ( just my opinion)
Hill Shepherd the new P365 is an example of that. Maybe they just grew to large to fast to keep a good quality control going?
Or the Americans squandered its good name. Lot of SIG folks say "get the German frame."
are you trying to mimic the yankee clown ?
Certainly not on purpose. I haven't watched anything of his in ages. Actually, I watch very few of the "big" channels. I just try to be me and do my thing.
good videos.....AA++
not a very good shot IMHO
You should compare apples with apples u have a sig that retails at about 1200 dollars new and the Rex at about 600. I would say that the Rex must be pretty good if u r competing it to the sig
