    Negative Picture Illusion? Afterimage Illusion
    How This Visual Illusion Works
A negative picture is the inverse of a normal, or positive, image. In a negative picture, areas that are white or light appear dark, and darker areas appear to be light. Usually, photo negatives are turned into positive images in a darkroom. But with the negative picture visual illusion, your visual system and brain can briefly create a color image from a negative photo.
How to Create the Negative Picture Illusion/Afterimage Illusion
To see the negative picture illusion:
    1) Stare at the dots on the woman's face in the picture for 30 seconds.
    2) Turn your eyes immediately to the right white image on the right or a white wall.
    3) Blink quickly several times.
You should see an image of a woman in full color, although only briefly. If you are having trouble seeing the effect, try staring at the negative image a bit longer or adjusting how far you are sitting from your computer monitor.
Because not everyone can see it. Take a long, hard look at the picture and see if you’re one of the special ones who can:
This illusion requires you to stare at the dots on the woman's nose for 30 seconds, then look to the right of the image at the white blank space or a white wall. Blink serval times and you should see a flicker of the full color photo of the woman.
This is down to the way our brains interpret imagery and colors and in this case is known as "negative afterimage".
The reason some people are able to visualize the woman in full color is down to cells we have in our eyes known as ganglion (gang·glee·n) cells, which send coded messages to the brain identifying pairs of primary colors.
Dr Juno Kim from the University of NSW School of Optometry and Vision Science to Daily Mail Australia explains:
"The code for all the hues we can experience in the light spectrum - this information is relayed from the back of the eye to the brain via three opponent neuron channels.
As well as black and white, we also have a red and green and a blue and yellow channel, which is the one that comes into play here. Because you stare at a blue background for a prolonged period of time, as soon as you shift your eyes to a ‘uniform’ background - the white space in this instance - the cell declines and starts to project the opposite color.
It is those yellow hues that, for some, reveal the woman in the original negative image as in full color.

Hi Mihaela, Thats great you got it to work. This is a fun and easy experiment that doesn't disappoint. : )

If you still remember, would you mind telling me what you did the second time you tried the illusion that you didn't do the first time? Perhaps that is the very thing I need to do and the illusion will work just as strongly for me.

I was unable to see any color or even the refined textures of the face even after staring at the face for 30 seconds. I blinked while staring (blinking isn't ruled out in the dictionary definition for staring) and I tried to focus on the colors (I'm not sure if I did so perfectly) and yet I saw hardly anything. What does this mean?

Good Morning The Great Anonynous, Just stare at the 3 dots on the picture for 30 seconds. Then look at a white wall or space and then blink. I think since you blink and stared at the same time is why it didn't work. If it doesn't work with just staring at it for 30 seconds, try staring a little longer. If it doesn't work I'm not sure why. thanks Ken

I can't hold a stare for 30 seconds for reasons beyond me. When I stare, I don't even see the outline of the shape I stare at. Peripheral vision gets in the way of a laser-focused stare. I don't think I can see the optical illusion other people see with impunity. When I searched online, I couldn't find any website that said that some people are unable to see the illusion yet you say that some people can't in your video. If you can provide me any information, such as a link to a source (if there is one) for the part where you say some people aren't able to see the illusion. I am determined to see this illusion in one form or another.

@@thegreatanonymous7229 I don't know for sure, but since you can't stare at it for 30 seconds, meaning your eyes are moving around not allowing the cones in the back of your eyes to fatigue. This illusion needs to fatigue the cones to make them see the color. You must have strong cones in your eyes and they don't get fatigue. You can stare at the picture and occasionally blink, but stare as long as you can. Sorry I don't have a answer for you. Thanks

Maybe, but there is also the chance I am doing something horribly wrong when it comes to staring. If you have any pointers on how to stare properly to see the illusion, I would appreciate it. If the advice still doesn't work, then maybe I was born without the ability to be tricked by this illusion.

@@thegreatanonymous7229 I don't know how to help, maybe next time your at the eye doctor you can ask him, as I'm sure if anyone would know it would be the doctor. thx
