Introducing our Cocker Spaniel Puppy to our Cat

- In the beginning it didn’t seem like they would ever get along. Watch to see how their friendship progressed over time!

The tolerance from the kitty is still impressive to this day.
Dog's lucky to have his eyes still.
Theyre not tolerating, theyre trying to understand what is going on with their space. Imagine coming home and finding someone messing up with your stuff
Bollocks to the cat
The amount of time that has gone by is irrelevant
@@mrangryeyes4789 spot on. Vermin things
He was so persistent and determined to win her over.. What a sweet boy! I love him!
I just love cat's reactions to things they don't understand. The way they approach so slowly and stealthily then just stare. Puppy's reaction, excitement, wag wag wag.
We had an adored Cocker spaniel and cat. They grew to love each other and would stroll round the house together like the best of friends. Penny, the cat, would sometimes lay in ambush for Bramble spaniel and jump out on her - who ever said cats don’t have a sense of humour?! They both loved that game! They shared a bed too. Both gone over the Rainbow Bridge now, but never forgotten. 🐶😻
We never forget our pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge, we keep their memories close in our hearts and think of them often ❤️😍👍
*lie in ambush

Interesting how the wagging tail means a totally different thing for these two animals. Also, what a beautiful clean sunny home these lucky pets have!
Yes! They have two different ways to express themselves. They learn to translate the visual signals of the other.
They may never be litter mates, but close friends, absolutely.
Not 'barking', it's 'dog talkies'!
Also, making sounds! Cats usually make audible sounds when they’re angry or threatened, but dogs make noise when curious/happy/excited/sad, etc.
No kids maybe,,, lol
C MW i was thinking the same thing. Geeesh the house is immaculate! :-)
I am in tears, I had a Cocker spaniel from my childhood to my adulthood, from 11 to 26 years old, the memories that this video just brought me are indescribable, my dog had the same kind of funny reactions that made her unique. This breed is really special, they have a point of madness that makes them very very funny. Thank you for sharing these moments of your pet that make some of us remember incredible times, a heartfelt greeting
They're nice dogs aren't they?
The key moment was when the cat rolled on the floor exposing her back to the puppy without visual contact but still knew the dog was in range. That's when the demonstration of trust was established by the cat!
No, it was when they opened a joint checking account.
I really hate dogs, but adore cats. This video has not changed my opinion. Horrible, noisey, excitable stupid dog. Calm, sweet cat.

It was fun to watch this. I love how puppies never stop trying to win your love and affection. And I love how stubborn the kitty can be, but he/she eventually gives up and gives in to the love lol.
So adorable. Cats crack me up. They are fearless. The looks she gives the puppy as he barks and takes out his frustrations are priceless.
Nice to see a cocker without his tail docked :) He's beautiful and full of life.
I hate that docking crap.
best dogs ever1
Why do they do that?
@@jennyrose9454, I've heard for looks or hunting or just preference ?
Some cockers are born with a short tail, so don't assume it had to be from people cutting it.
Haha, the way the cat took off over the gate, amazing.
Even my cat and she's a pretty big girl can do this. That's nothing.
That's nothing. Cats are absolute ninjas! They can climb plain flat walls, can just from 5m unharmed, you can throw them up in the air they ALWAYS land on their feet, they can catch stuff from the air, silent killer... I could go on and on 😄
First time watching made me laugh. :D
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, cats are great jumpers. My cat can easily jump up 4 feet. I’ve heard stories of cats that jump 5-6 feet. A baby gate is merely a minor hurdle.
This cat is so calm and wise. A beautiful story . Happy you trusted them.. ❤️
I love how the cat takes no nonsense from the puppy standing it's ground
Puppie: come here, kittie, let‘s play!!!
Cat: be gone, Satan!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cat: "calm down I'm not there yet"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bindi knew that the dog was a puppy and he needed some training about boundaries. Their appreciation of each other was fun to watch. Congratulations on rearing each of them to be tolerant and loving pets.🐶😺
So fun watching. Dogs are all about play "all the time " while cats are like the old fashioned teacher "You better BEHAVE !"😆
My life has been devoted to cockers for 30 plus years I am so besotted with the breed if I let my emotions go wild I would have a house full in a heartbeat 💓

shed a few tears seeing your pup, my Penelope was lemon and white and looks so very much like your Winston. We lost her in 1990 after 14 y 7 m. Everyone loved her, even next door's large white cat who hated dogs, we had cats from allover the neighbourhood come visit her. You only had to think of tuna for tea and she would jump up, run to the kitchen door, sit down and hurry me up. Hubster would say, I guess we're having tuna for tea? I still believe, from her, they read your mind. The way your Winston is sitting at the end is just like she would sit, his face is her face, just a different colour. Love him xxxxx
Your Penelope was much loved.
@@pamelaabbott9416 Oh she was that, they are such sweet, kind dogs. Still miss her today. xxx
I lost my black Cocker Hannah March 2000, and I still think about her every day. She was also a BIG lover of tuna 🐟. I swear she knew the exact sound of the tin being opened. Winston is a very handsome boy 🐾❤.

The cat is 100% in control at all times!
This is almost identical to when we got a puppy while already having an older cat when I was a kid. She (the cat) would give him a gentle "bop" on the nose when he was out of order and eventually mostly laid out together in front of the fire in the same ways yours do! 😆
Awww, so sweet at the end! As a pet owner, this was interesting to observe. Hope your furry babies will live happily ever 💕
I absolutely love Cockers! They are always curious, always dramatic, and their tail is constantly wagging. The only time my cocker's tail stops is if he's deeply concentrating on a sound or smell lol. And if they get excited it's zoomies all over the place! Spaniels are the best dog breeds in my opinion.
They are very loyal
Cats are so smart. I love how your puppy keeps working at developing a friendship with his housemate.

Thanks for sharing this video, very amusing. The cat makes a superb baby sitter, she's regular Mary Poppins, she let's him act out his baby exuberance, and watches him patiently, I lol when she leapt over the gate like a ninja,,and was out in the garden looking at him barking, looked like she was saying SHUT UP. I hope they grow to be best friends and give u their owners many happy hours.
My Cocker Spaniel Ollie died last year after 13 years. He loved playing with my cat Smudge ( in picture. ) He was a Brindle brown colour. This video put a smile to my face, but there was also a bit of sadness, as it was like seeing Ollie again. The way your dog barked, sounsed just lime mine, and his cheeky Mannerisms, identical to my Ollie. Beautifull video, that I've saved it to my playlist. Love from England.💖
Winston just wants to play, he doesn't understand. The cat definitely gets the upper hand in the end they always do.
Kitty had the upper paw from the very beginning. Puppy even knew it, hence that really submissive pose in the early part.
@@jwoolman5 Wrong. A wagging tail is not submissive, it's playful. He's trying to indicate that he's not a threat.
Not always true. My kitty-smitty who is a happy go lucky sort, almost fearless...bends to the will of his older Cockapoo sister.

…
Its the other way around, the cat doesn't understand that doggo just want to be friends and wants to play. And only after a year or so the cat understands 😂
The Cocker’s rather emotional frustration toward the beginning is too wholesome and too sweet, but eager to play all the same!
We don’t deserve dogs at all! ☺️💚🤗
Or cats.
We created them.
Absolutely adorable. You have a beautiful, quality house. It is obvious you take great care of your pets. They are lucky.
I just love when pups making that "Come on, please love me!" face 🙈
Suggestion: Remove the bell from your cat before introducing it to your dog. That way, the dog won't think it's a toy.
...and are we sure that hearing a bell 24/7 is pleasant for a cat? I'd hate having a bell around my neck.
@@giorix5918 it’s for cats who go outside, otherwise they decimate all the birds. Just one cat can make a huge natural damage in your local ecosystem. I love cats and agree that maybe it’s not fun for them, but I’m hoping they get used to it. Owners should take it off when they are inside the house, maybe?
Also pro tup, cut down all trees in a 3 mile radius from your house, so cocker spaniels have one less thing to bark at, especially come fall time. i hate cocker spaniels, all they do is bark
@@alexpoirier5471 wow for you remove bell = cut down all trees in a 3 mile radius
Logic and reasoning must be very hard for you.
@@alexpoirier5471 cocker spaniels are highly intelligent, if they are barking at a tree it’s because they found prey there and wants to please the owner by informing them, that’s what the breed was developed for. Maybe city people shouldn’t have cocker spaniels in the first place, they are made to run free in the woods.
I am mostly a cat person. That being said, Labradors, golden retrievers, Dachshunds and Spaniels win my heart every time too😊
Doggos are adorable after all. Why cant we love all animals
@@miraalbertson Dogs are just annoying, sorry. Their barking is loud and very disturbing. Dogs force their attention on people completely ignoring the reluctance to engage. They can become aggressive towards a foreign person without any provoking from the person's side. Not even talking about having their poo and pee all over the city.
@@s0nyashnyk most of what you listed is preventable if the dogs are raised right lol. i respevt your opinion, but atleast base them on facts not lies
The cat was like “I’m out, see you later Dog” 😂😂😂. Over the fence we go 😎
He really wants to play with the cat, but doesn't know yet how?
This is proof, you may own your dog but your cat owns you! 😂 Love them both 💛
You think you own your dog but he owns your heart. Stop bringing dogs down
Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
Those two tails mean two different things when they're wagging! Pretty cute, glad they finally became friends! (That calico cat's body coloring was very similar to my precious 17+year-old-cat that I just lost to age, so it brought some pangs to my heart bur their faces were different.) Darling cocker and very cute behavior together.
I have to mention it… your floors are outstanding!!!! The shine is like glass!!! Yes,the puppy paws are so. Cute padding around! 🐾🐾💕🐾🐾💕
So basically the cat trained the dog to behave the way it wanted it to. Cats… gotta love them 😂😂😂
I find Cats a bit to dominant but damn, they are cuter than Snickers, a perfect watermelon and 1 ton sugar combined.
I would like to get a abandoned one, but i cant face the fact that she gets older and suddenly dissapear one day. No way my Heart is going to accept that.

@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
It cracked me up when the dog took off after the cat at the beginning of the video and the cat ran for it's life. LOL I couldn't stop laughing. Poor puppy just wanted to play, and that cat was not having any of it. So glad they are starting to bond better. It's always hard introducing a kitten to an older cat, but a puppy is a whole different story. They are so high strung and crazy when they are babies and they have no bounds. I'm glad he learned those bounds as time went on. Those 2 will be best friends.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
It is wonderful to know that they became good friends. They are both adorable♡
Hilarious! Introvert vs extrovert. Cat: "Leave me alone, dufuss!" Dog: "You just GOTTA love me! Please!" Cat leaps over the gate and is gone.
The puppy persisted and the cat gave in. Puppies know how to win hearts
Very very cute. The puppy is adorable and they make a great v pair.

The cat is so amazing.

The kitty is definitely teaching the puppy about boundaries and personal space. Both are very cute.
I like how the cat is pretty much unfazed the whole time. At first she runs away at half speed, before long she's just standing her ground daring the dog to make a move lol, ready to put him in his place if he gets too bold
Haha funny puppy & kitty! They turned into BEST mates in the end!
That's the difference between cats & dogs summed-up in one video! Both are gorgeous; the puppy has such fluffy front legs, love them! When they finally settle, cat paw to dog nose, it's so sweet.
He seems to have ‘cat’ embedded in his brain and he just can’t shake it off!

Aw, thanks for the memories. We had a Cocker puppy and 2 cats. SHE loved those kitties....one was fine, the other was...FORGET IT! Mr. Forget It sadly died too young. We got a new kitten that had been abandoned by mom and was nursed and "raised" by a dog. When we brought Cheddar home and he saw Biscuit (Yes, we name all our pets after food) there was an instant bond. Sadly Biscuit got sick at 9, went blind with many other issues. Cheddar became her "seeing eye kitty". She would nudge Biscuit to her food and water and also outside. Then Cheddar would say by the door (inside cat) and watch for Biscuit to finish her duty and then MEOW like crazy to get her back to the door. We will never, ever forget their bond. LOL, just remembered that I have a profile pick of a cocker that looks like my Biscuit.
Over the years I have had three cockers, each of them with their own personalities, each of them intelligent, each of them daft, and I still love them all!
Thank you for posting him!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the way he went “ oow “ when the cat escaped he sounded so disappointed 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Thanks for the video. English Cocker Spaniels are wonderful and intelligent dogs. I owned one for 11 years and I can say hand on heart he was the best dog I've ever been lucky enough to own. I could talk to him and he'd understand; simple normal volume conversation! If I called him he came immediately and did whatever I asked with the same urgency. He was completely fearless and often crashed through thorn bushes and cactus. He took no interest of other dogs and simply ignored them.
------------------
I taught him to chase and retrieve small half-ripe (green) lemons that grow everywhere here in Cyprus. As you know Spaniels need to be worked and this was a perfect solution. He'd even sleep with a lemon in his basket.
Their ears are sensitive to problems and I used ear drops as a preventative measure as he loved swimming. Keeping their ears trimmed helps as they can get into their food when they're eating.
I miss him and will get another one as soon as I can find a good breeder. 🙂
That Puppy is So Sweet! All he wants to do is be friends and Play. Lovely Dog
