  • Guangzhou is the 3rd largest city in China and is a very important economic and trading hub for the country. It is especially famous for its annual Canton Fair, historical temples, incredible shopping and of course Cantonese cuisine. This was my first stop on my trip to China and I'm very glad it was! This city has a lot to offer and I will definitely be back :)

It’s funny that here in the US or anywhere in the, so called West, Cameras are called “security cámara” (and are everywhere, the difference is that we don’t pay attention to them)…but the same Cameras, with the same purpose are called “surveillance camera” if they are in China. Anyways, looks a very modern, clean and organize society.

The West shall not discriminate China because China choose one party system instead of using two party system. One party system let China develop much faster. Nowadays China is much more developed than India, Brazil , Indonesia or other developing countries. Its streets are also cleaner and safer than most developed countries. Its life expectancy is already 2 years longer than US life expectancy and 9 years longer than India life expectancy .
Expressway length in China reach 177,000 kms vs US 76,000 kms and India 4,900 kms. High speed railway length in China reach 42,000 kms vs both 0 kms in US and India. On top of that, China is also number 1 in many fields such as electricity generation, motor vehicle production
(30 million per year), steel and cement production, ship building capacity( China ship building capacity is 232 times greater than US ) while it is nowhere 50 or 70 years ago.
Take life expectancy of both China and US as example. In 1950 China life expectancy is about 38 vs US 68. After 71 years, in 2021 China life expectancy is 78.2 vs US 76.1( latest figure by CDC , US life expectancy dropped by 3 in 2020-2021 period from 79.1 originally). China expectancy increase by 40 years while US increase by 8 years only. China life expectancy increase 5 time faster than US.
Also Look at health care by comparing MMA rate( maternal mortality rate): in 1950 China maternal mortality is 1500 women death per 100,000 birth vs US 100 women death per 100,000 births. In 2021, China MMA is 16.1 vs US 23.8 per 100,000 (the lower the number , the better health care service level) .
Infant mortality rate: in 1950 China infant mortality is 195 death per 1000 birth vs US 26.8 death per 1000 births. In 2021, China infant mortality rate drop to 5 per 1000 vs US 5.4 per 1000 birth.
And people in China retire at 55 years old on average to access pension. About 12 years earlier than US's 67 years requirement while some countries may not have pension at all. It means an American need work extra 40*52*12=25,000 hrs in his life than an average person in China. It also means an American only has 9 years to enjoy retirement while an average person in China has 23 years to enjoy retirement. And it is not means or asset tested when access pension in China. It means you get your pension monthly even you stay overseas, are a multi-millionaire or have another job after retirement. Singapore is another example of one party system. Its gdp is highest among Asia.

A really interesting video on a very modern city. I'd read books about this city when it was known to the outside world as Canton. Every Canadian knows of Cantonese style Chinese Food since many of the Chinese who worked on building the CPR opened restaurants in towns and cities along the rail lines. For such a short time you covered a lot of ground. I hope you get some Alina time while you're in China. I love your content but don't want you to get run down creating it. You did a good job of reviewing Guangzhou and you even got the pronunciation down! It's a lot easier to travel there than it used to be 20 years ago when I first went and my goodness is it different now, it used to be nearly all bicycles back then. You can get a 10 year visa to make travel to China much easier for a Canadian. I was surprised you haven't had congee before, in the Toronto area, congee restaurants are everywhere. I saw you also like Pandas, if so, a trip to Chengdu would be really enjoyable and it's a pretty fabulous city in its own right. If you can, I recommend trying to meet up with locals when in China, you will experience it much differently if you're not just a tourist.

The personal payment code generated each time is unique. This is because this QR code is generated based on a timestamp. The timestamp generated each time is different, so the generated QR code will also be different. This can effectively prevent duplicate payments and fraud and ensure payment security.
Although the personal payment code is different every time, the system will automatically match the payment information with the generated timestamp, thus completing the payment operation. Therefore, even if the QR code is different every time, the payer does not need to worry about the payment being unsuccessful.

Perhaps you are film maker, your editing is very professional and the background music is very harmonic. I'm expecting to see more of your rest of the China trip stories. Thanks!

Thank you again for your eye opening vlog. For me, it's refreshing memories. For so many (as I write this, I see you have 240k views in one month!) it has to mirror your experience of wonderfully "not what I expected." I've lived in China and Guangzhou for years. I haven't been back to Shamian Island in years, though I plan on it. I've had many a wonderful meal in that Orien Express restaurant. Not to weigh this down, but Shamian Island was a major port of China and in 1859 became the "foreign concession." As I recall, that's also when it became an island.

Welcome to my hometown! Did you not see the amazing ancient road surface when you were at Beijing Road? There are several glass windows on the road surface, through which you can see the roads of Han Dynasty (202-220 BC), Tang Dynasty (618-907), Song Dynasty (960-1279), and Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) just a few feet below where your stand, which proves that Beijing Road has been the central street of Guangzhou since its founding in 214 BC. In my opinion, this is the most worthwhile attraction to see on Beijing Road.

I thought the Han dynasty lasted a couple hundreds years?

@@wuxiaaddict Yes, you are right, my mistake in writing. It should be 202 BC-220, lasted over 4 hundred years. Thanks for your correction.

Kanji? More appropriately - Chinese characters - since Japanese kanji (Chinese characters) and Korean hanja (Chinese characters) originated from the Chinese language and are borrowed by both Japan and Korea.

I am a Guangzhou native, and I recommend going to Guangzhou’s Party Pier near the Canton Tower and Foshan’s Qiandeng Lake and zumiao, which can be reached by subway.
