I love rent. I was obsessed with it! I wanted to be Mimi and told my mom I was Mimi when I was about 12 cuz we were dancers (I did competition dance and ballet for 10 years) come to me being 18 and realizing she was a stripper, addicted to drugs and had AIDS and made the connection on why my mom was worried when I said I wanted to be like her

why do you think the 1990's were terrible and I'm looking for more then just because they were.

Aesthetics were nasty and kind of nauseous, cultural behavior was altogether entitled and “end of time” vibe. And despite having the best economy and overall quality of life, everyone was upset that they had general comfort and complained about how comfortable they were. We are paying today for actions that took place in the 90’s.

There’s this new parody musical of Phineas & Ferb, they called it M.W.C.A. (musical without a cool acronym) It’s on UA-cam you should check that out maybe discuss it on your show.

It's sad how a musical/movie about how Rent was made is better than Rent itself

A horrible musical about horrible people doing horrible things

Rent truly is a story about horrible people, doing horrible things, just to end with nothing really having happened at all. Like, there is a lot of talk about rejecting societal norms and not selling out, but what is accomplished. Nothing happens in the end, no one has really changed, and the only one who learns a lesson is Mimi which is to take care of herself and realizing "No Day But Today" means to cherish life rather than abuse it. I see why people love it, but the more I think about the story the more I find wrong with it

I like Rent as a musical. I havent seen the movie in a while, but I remember enjoying it when I did. The music is catchy (aka I literally cannot stop singing the first song to myself. No joke, I just randomly start singing it without realizing it), and the meaning meant something when it was made. Now, the meaning has some relevance, but not as much as it did before. I think people like it now because of the music, and the fond feelings they had for it when they saw it during its initial run with the original cast, especially if they were the age the characters were meant to be. They felt heard. They felt understood. Has it held up the best? No, of course not. Anything set in "modern times" at the time of writing are going to feel a little dated, especially if they discuss and try to deal with the most prominent issues of the time. But the show still TALKS about them. Even if they arent the biggest issues now, they're still a thing.
From what I remember of the movie compared to the actual live show that I just rewatched a couple days ago, the film definitely doesnt capture the spirit of the original musical. It does it's best, but because it feels as expensive as it does, it loses that charm.
