    Great job Paul. Very informative and professional. You have come long way in a short time. Keep up the good work!

    I just got the R8 which I will be using for astrophotography. You can do away with the intervalometer app as the camera seems to have that functionality built in! Plus the ability to do looooong B mode exposures. I've just done a few 15 minute exposures, and am currently shooting a stack of 50x 10 sec exposures, with no apps or external equipment, now that IS unusual.

      Yes, you are right! For basic wide-field astrophotography the build-in interval timer feature (up to 30 sec exposures) is indeed convenient and helpful. Thanks for pointing that out. I will indeed use it during my next planned Milky Way imaging adventure. FYI, I do not plan to use this camera on my telescope, but if I did, an intervalometer would still be necessary to accommodate my usual 2 to 5 minute exposures for most deep sky objects.

      My pleasure. After now having it for many months, I love it more. It is great for Milky Way imaging and taking extreme widefield images of the sky (e.g. 35mm); especially under darker skies. Just last week I even picked up Uranus in Bortle class 4 skies. However, I do not use this camera for astrophotography (e.g. nebula, galaxies, etc.) I am not a camera expert. This is the first real SLR camera I ever owned, but I like it very much for general photography and low light photography. Best wishes and clear skies! PAUL

      I am looking forward to using it. But it may have to wait weeks until after the rainy season. Unfortunately.

    Thank you Paul. Great assesment of R8. I don't envy you in Bortle 7+ sky. I felt so spoil that I can get to a Bortle 3 or 2 sky from L.A. with 1/2 hour driving.

      Hey Joseph, thanks for watching and commenting. Best I can do is Bortle class 4 around here (see Episodes 1, 4, 14, 16) and that takes 3 to 4 hours to get there! Count your blessings! Clear skies!

    Great Video Paul! Have you ever thought of the RF 16mm f/2.8 or RF 24mm f/1.8? Cheers!

      Hi Randall, thanks. Hopefully you will then like the other two videos using the Canon R8 (Episodes 19 & 20)! Actually I have a SAMYANG 14mm F2.8 lens that I used with my ASI533MC Pro in APJ video Episode 11. I am itching to try it on Milky Way photography with the Canon R8, but the weather has not been cooperative for the last few new moons. But that is next on my list! Thanks for watching Astrophotography Japan!

    there are some settings that could help decrease the flicker in the video

      Thanks Max. I know you are correct. Step by step. I have a lot to learn about this camera and not enough time to study it all. Hopefully I will master it soon. Thanks for watching Astrophotography Japan!

    Will you eventually modify this new R8 and use it with your telescopes?

    • @jpastroguy
      @jpastroguy  Рік тому

      Hi Katsumi. No, I do not intend to modify this camera. I am not sure if I will use it with my telescopes. I did not purchase it for that purpose. The full-frame is nice, but I much prefer using astronomy dedicated and designed cameras.

    Deep Sky Stacker (DSS) said the iles from my R8 weren't able to be handled by DSS?

    • @jpastroguy
      @jpastroguy  5 місяців тому +1

      In DSS, go to "Open Picture Files" and find the file that contains your Canon CR3 images. Then at the bottom right (just above the word OPEN), change the setting to RAW Files. They should then all appear in your window. Clear skies!

    • @jpastroguy
      @jpastroguy  5 місяців тому

      BTW, I got a "error message" at first when I tried to register or stack the CR3 files. But I simply proceeded and it worked regardless! After that, the error message did not appear again.
