How to Glue the Steinway Dampers

I purchased this felt directly from Steinway. Your question is understood but this is what they sent me. I've been using this glue also without issue. I don't like using hide glue.

Steinway use red (or mauve) backing felt throughout the damper head, and a small 'v' cut for the damper wire to assist in damping, and also use animal glue, not PVA. Wondered why you have chosen to separate backing felt?

Sorry for the late response, I used a stock set of Steinway pre-cut felt that I had in the shop. I need to use what I have. I'm not sure why it was unbacked, usually it is. Besides, they worked fine without issue. I understand what you're saying and agree. I used the PVC glue on this and also use cold hide glue. Really no rhyme or reason. I don't think it matters in the long run. PVC glue comes off just fine. Hide glue is better.
