  • Hello, I am Carina Marcon from CdiC Supplies , in this video I will give you information about the applications of the Feutrex range,
    Let's start
CdiC Suplies is a manufacturer - wholesaler of stiffeners for textile, felt, leather and lace .
The products we are going to discuss here are Feutrex, Caritex, Paille, Durtex , Xtra36 and the Solvant/Cleaner ,
This is our complete product range. Our products are based on methanol, polyvinyl acetate and plasticizers.
The products are transparent, so they do not leave any discoloration on the surfaces to be treated.
You can’t see the layers, so before working with the product you must first shake the bottle very briefly and vigorously. The products all have a different strength.
Feutrex is the weakest, Caritex is the middle, Paille is the strongest, Durtex is even stronger and Xtra36 is one that we have specially developed for the techniques of Bridget Bailey .
With the Solvant you can dilute these 4 products up to 25% maximum. If you use more than 25% then you will start to break down the product. So certainly never use more than ¼ th of the Solvant.
You can also mix our products with each other: with ¼ Feutrex + ¾ Durtex you make Paille.
with ½ Paille and ½ Feutrex, you make Caritex
But you can also make your own concentration by mixing the different ones with each other.
The Solvant is a very important product, especially for washing the brushes.
Our products are highly flammable, you may not drink them and you must use them in a well-ventilated environment, which can be outside or under an extractor hood.
Inhaling it is not really a good idea.
Since it is a methanol based product you cannot use synthetic brushes, it is best to use brushes with natural bristles, the natural bristles of pigs are the best.
We have developed a special brush for this, it is 4cm wide, 4cm high and 0.75cm thick. Do not use a round brush or a wide flat brush with synthetic hairs, the hairs will curl, they cannot hold the product. Brushes with natural bristles hold the product and deposit nicely on the felt, on the straw or on the surface you want to apply the stiffener on.
The brushes are for sale in our web shop per piece or in a package of 10.
This is a brush with synthetic hairs and this is a brush with some synthetic hairs in between and you’ll see the product will leak out of the brush. It is also important that you maintain your brushes well, but we will come back to that later
This is a brush that has not been washed out, and so you can no longer use it.
That is why it is important to wash your brushes every time.
I mark my brushes: dark colors, light colors, straw, colored straw,
because you always have a little bit of dye or residue from the felt that goes with the brush in your stiffener.
I use a glass jar. Our bottles have safety caps. So shake it short and vigorously. The different layers will mix, open it, voila I pour a tiny bit in the jar, you really don't need more. With 10cl you can treat 1 cloche completely.
we are now going to see how to apply the stiffeners.
I am will apply it to these pieces and treat this part, I am not going to treat this half. Then you will see the flexibility afterwards and in what way the product will manifest itself.
So I'm going to use the brush for the dark colors. The brush is washed out and is clean.
I'm going to dip it in the liquid. And then squeeze it out, always squeeze it out a little and then apply on the surface. A soft start and then push the product in well, just push the product in.
When we treat a cloche or a capeline, it is best to do this on the inside, that is the best way.
To know if the capeline is ready to start steaming, you simply hold your hand against it and feel if it feels like a fresh air breeze or if you feel the room temperature, if you feel the room temperature then it is effectively dry. If it still feels cold, then the methanol has not yet completely evaporated and you cannot start steaming. If you do start steaming, you will get white spots, that is the plasticizer that has not yet fully hardened.
Here you see a color difference because it is still wet, but this will completely gone if dry,
When you have to stiffen multiple capelines in 1 color, you will see that a lot of deposits come on your brush from the hairs of the wool felt or from the hair felt, which, you will also see in your glass jar of the stiffener, never pour this left over back into your bottle.
The reason: you are going to mix those blue specks into your clean stiffener or those red specks or those green specks.
I always pour the used stiffener into a separate small bottle or a jar that closes well and keep that for the next treatment of a dark color, a red color or a green color, it is important that you always keep your stiffener clean for next projects.
Start with a soft touch that ensures you not to push all the product out of your brush at once and that the material does not absorb the stiffener all at once......
