I love this! Thanks for the video. I really want to paint my house black and light whitish/gray. This video was helpful in allowing me to make final decisions ❤
This looks amazing. Weird question, your tree on the left side facing the house. Do you know what that tree is called? Looking into getting my landscaping done and your tree is exactly what I need!
Hi! Great work! I have a question did you use primer first for this project if you did what type of primer or was there no need to prime and just painted with the profit you mentioned? Thank you.
Hi! Loxon doesn't need a primer. In fact, you probably shouldn't use a primer with it. It's designed to stick to masonry. You can read about it here: www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/loxon-xp-waterproofing-masonry-coating#:~:text=Loxon%20XP%20Masonry%20Coating%20is,is%20no%20need%20for%20priming.
We bought a fixer upper in a sought after area. Brick must be painted. It’s so bad. It’s a 70’s L shaped ranch. I’m struggling so hard with the color. Will you please share your paint color and shutter color?
Hi! We went with Sherwin Williams Loxon XP paint for our brick. The COLOR we used is called EXTRA WHITE. You can see the details in this blog post: www.abbottsathome.com/paint-a-brick-house-white/ Good luck!
My opinion only. I would have painted the columns to look like stained wood. Like a tree that was trimmed in place to support the over hang. I'm just a fan of natural brick. BUT!... I'm also colorblind
Yep, we all have different tastes when it comes to brick. I like painted and unpainted. But, when a house starts to look really dated, paint it's a quick way to fix it. Thanks for sharing.
I bought a brick house already painted with very dark colors. I would like to lighten up the color. It’s dark gray and black 😮🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️. I was thinking about doing a white wash but I’m not sure how it will work with paint instead of raw porous brick.
I lime washed my brick and two years later I regret it. It looks so dirty. You can see all of the bugs and dirt. You have to wash the house all the time to make it look nice. I am now going to stain it a darker color .
I love the look of lime wash, but it is a textured surface that’s easier for dirt and bug debris to hide in. The masonry paint I used provides a pretty smooth surface that helps most of the dirt and dust wash away during heavy rains. Good luck with your house!
It’s been a few years and I can honestly say I have zero regrets! The home looks so much better. And, it’s the exact same maintenance it always was - occasional cleaning to remove wasp nests and other bug debris. 👍
EVERYTHING requires maintenance. I have a brick home I am about to paint white. Even now I have my home pressure washed once a year. No difference in maintenance at all when we go to paint. Cars, appliances, decks etc etc require maintenance. Do you just go outside and start a fire to cook your dinner? It’s what they like.
Nope, we did this 3 years ago and it’s never been a problem. Even in our humid city, the brick is healthy. That’s because we used a paint designed for brick and stone by Sherwin Williams. If you use the right products, painting brick is safe. 👍👍

Love white houses. It looks fab. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

Happy to help!
That brick look was stunning. It looked elegant.. like you said love or hate pained brick. I'm not a fan of painted, but it's not my house :)
Painting just added a big upkeep expense. I would have just painted trim & accent including the columns in the front.
I really like both actually. For that specific house at least. It looked great natural and it looks great painted.
Thanks!
This looks amazing.

I call it a ball tree. But, I don’t know the exact type. I’d ask a good landscape supplier what would make a good ball tree. Good luck!!
Notice the newer contemporary and complimentary new roofing , improving the street appeal.
Nice job. ❤️
Thanks! We actually just had the roof soft washed. But, it was a huge improvement for curb appeal. 🙏
How many coats of SW Loxon XP were applied?
Looks great !
Thanks!!
Did they just spray it, or did they back roll/back brush it after applying the paint with the sprayer? I think it looks great!!
Thanks! Yep, they just sprayed. 😊
I love it now!👍
Thanks!

Don't do it. Just learn to love the brick. Once you paint, it will be maintenance you have to keep up with.
My opinion only. I would have painted the columns to look like stained wood. Like a tree that was trimmed in place to support the over hang. I'm just a fan of natural brick. BUT!... I'm also colorblind

What are the two paint colors and where did you get them ? The white and brown
It's SW Extra White and SW Functional Gray. 👍👍
@@AbbottsAtHome are the colors functional grey as well? Did you paint the gutters or are they new?

Talk to someone at BM or SW, I'm not sure that a whitewash would work now either. But, you can paint over the old paint. 👍
I thought linewash was less expensive? Or is it more expensive because of labor costs? I know it IS cheaper in terms of cost of material
I think you’re right, it’s the labor. My house was painted in about 1/2 a day. I think Limewashing would have taken a couple days. 😊
I'm sold, going to paint my brick!
I still love ours after 2 years!!

Does stain is better than paint to allow moisture transfer ?
You can use either, as long as the paint is designed to be used on brick. That type of paint won't trap moisture in the brick.
How did you paint the tall walls?
They used ladders and a paint sprayer. 👍
Something that required no maintenance, now has maintenance. Make sense to you?
It’s been a few years and I can honestly say I have zero regrets! The home looks so much better. And, it’s the exact same maintenance it always was - occasional cleaning to remove wasp nests and other bug debris. 👍

How to create your very own damp problems!

Your brick needs to breath so it doesn’t deteriorate
Yep, Loxon paint is breathable and made for masonry. As long as you pick the right paint, it’s safe to paint brick. 👍
It will be fine
Painted brickwork causes serious problems if you ever decide to render it
That's interesting. I don't often see anyone rendering brick in the US. But, it's good to know, just in case.
