    Is the fact the emerging regions of Ethiopia namely Afar and Somali regions were provided with DEI programs like lower university enterance points, or the fact that that they were allocated more money from the federal government is an expression of neo-colonialism ? It is true that the Ethiopian state is more than a 1000 years old and to treat Ethiopia as another colonial fabrication like Nigeria and Ghana is wrong, but mdern Ethiopia was built by menelik and his conquest of numerous independent kingdoms and peoples like the wolayita, keffa, wollega and bothe the governemnts of Menelik and HS imposed an Amhara-Tigre culture on these nations is, for any one who reads, clear as the sky.

      the argument here is that nations have the right to self rule and determination as stated in International Law and the Geneva convention and that the TPLF/EPRDF did not institute a language/identity based federalsim in Ethiopia based on this principle but not to divide and rule(even though we can discuss about the consequnces). there is not evidence to support his claim. If you go and see the data collected by afro baro meter this constitution has the support of 48% of the population the country. so you people should get your head out of your ass and start thinkinig based on facts.

    From all appearances, the setting is a total jock of Dependency theory. Meles Zenawi was installed under a new-colonial sponosered leadership in 1991. In other words, he was at the beck and call of the Imperialiest. He destroyed Ethiopia, Somalia, and Eritrea. What made even matters worse is that Ethiopians are bragging about not being colonized while they have a cultural dependency on the "white master".that far more exceed the colonized people. Could you please explain how to combat this conundrum in an old fashion way. Cheers.

    Ethiopia was colonised but indirectly. The westerners would get gold and collaborators through Amhara and Tigre Xstian warlords. In return, they would receive weapons to subjugate and enslave the natives. It was the same when Constantine supplied them ships and weapons to attack Yemen. So they were never independent enough to be sovereign but clients.

      constantine did ask for Axum to become catholic and they refused. Axum wasn't colonized or forced to be christian. they didnt even go to nicea but voluntarily accepted the religion. Constantine asked for the help of Axum in Nagran since they couldnt stop the Jewish attacker in Yemen killing Christians. They were asked through the Egyptian pope and not directly by constantine. They would take 400 elephants cross the Red sea and attack the Jewish king. And you say they were colonized. No they were mighty. The influence was both sides since they were an equal. Is it so hard for you to phantom that Africans can be a European equal? The Habesha that you are talking about that you say later got arms from the west did still get out the westerners that were changing people into catholicism and reinstated the orthodox religion. And Habesha are native to their lands. Ahmed gragn and the oromo were being supported by Arabs and Turks to attack Habesha and the portugese helped last minute. Habesha did fight every invader and preserved our culture and language when all around us changed religions and culture.

      Although Ethiopia wasn’t colonised externally, it is an empire manufactured by a single ethnic group subjugating other ethnic groups and forcing them to be a part of the same country. Now that the subjugated groups have overtaken the subjugators in numbers of population the country is going through a process of balkanisation internal rise of nationalism being the main cause of all of Ethiopia’s problems.

    I agree on the idea of Neo-colonial reality you just tried to get at. However, I think your study should include what Meles policies were on Energy Independence. And charterization of Meles as Authocratic is at the same time perpetuated by the west after his Energy and protectionist policies. Borrowing them would make me take your arguemnts to be Circumstantially Ad Hominem.

      Thank you, that's a good suggestion. The data i relied on is mostly export and import since that's what Nkrumah uses to first build his argument about neocolonialism as an economic phenomenon. And my usage of authoritarian was in regard to the many ways that opposition was silenced throughout the country, but I guess i could have noted how the West tends to sling insults when it is beneficial to its bottom line, and further emphasized how that was a systematic tactic rather than a specific attack on Meles as a character? Although I thought that would've been given haha.

    Your analysis seems a bit off, and it feels like you're defending the Amhara rulers, who were protected by the UK for five years. Haile Selassie gave the largest military station in Ethiopia to the USA, the Kagnew Station is there any sign of puppet than this. You blame Europe for oppressing Ethiopia but don't mention the Amhara people's actions toward Eritrea during the 30-year war. Ethiopia was saved by Europe, and we should thank them for that. But if you blame puppets, no one was more of a puppet than the Amhara rulers Haile Selassie(UK) and Mengistu(puppet of USSR). Haile Selassie was the second most cowardly leader after Mengistu, who escaped from Ethiopia during hard times.Meles was anti liberalism ,anti world bank pre request ,to balance this he become close to china.world bank full prerequest was implemented during abiy ,these are privatizing tele ,airlines ,devaluing currency.but haileselase used to say everything ok.Meles was bad on democracy but toward economic development and protecting the country interest was genius .he brought back axum oblisk,he build nile dam,many university ,road,many start to speak with their own language proudly.they get regional tv which they can practice their own culture and language that create sense of belongness to the country.Haileselase saved by france in djbouti when escape the country,France gave to UK as goods kkk

    1991 isn’t just when “tplf won” 1991 is a historical shift when America and the west centralized their global power. this is when Soviet broke up and communism collapsed and with it all east leaning governments including the Ethiopian Derg government. your American centered research completely missed the 17 years anti American communist government that ruled Ethiopia. its role in the Cold War as a diplomatic pressure against the west and the advatage the derg gave the Soviet being located on the chock hold of international shipping on the Red Sea and how that plays into the CIA and TPLF-EPRDF popping up in 1991 just when the Berlin Wall falls and communism dies. • @JamboJoke

      it wasn’t just Ethiopia that changed around the time when Meles came the entire world had changed from a multipolar order with the presence of the Soviet to a unipolar America led world in 1991. And counties like Ethiopia that had stood firmly against imperialism in the 70s and 80s got the worst case of vendetta. out of all the possible opposition parties in Ethiopia in 1991 that opposed the Derg throughout its 17 years the CIA chose to back the ethno-fascist minority TPLF 😂 they came into Addis as the anti communist anti mengistu “democrats” but how can a minority ethnic centered group going to bring democracy???? The main objective was to destroy the Derg with its crumbling eastern friends and to do that anyone would have worked even TPLF

    Uncolonized, yes. However, Ethiopia also expanded x4 during the scramble for Africa. Mainly because it was allied with the European powers and even aided them in their colonial projects such as in Sudan, Djibouti and Kenya. Haile Selassie, a favourite of the Pan-Africanists, was in London sipping tea with the queen the WW2 whilst the rest of Africa was a colony.

    • @knopeace
      @knopeace 20 днів тому +2

      First of all there was no set boundaries therefore we cannot say “Ethiopia is expanded x4”. Secondly, every inch of land was historically contested and controlled by different groups areas. Thirdly, Ethiopians had far less contact with European than those communities along the coastline. Local rulers/sultans in Eritrea, djibouti and somalia had far more alliances and even hosted military bases of turkish and european colonizers. What the Ethiopians did is exploit European political schism precisely because of its sovereignty. Unlike those in the littoral areas, Ethiopians were politically organized to play European countries against each other despite Europe considering them backwards.

    • @ahmedopone4080

      @knopeace So the Solomonic dynasty of Ethiopia did not use the 200,000 armaments it received from Italian, French and Russian Europeans to massacre and expand it's administration?
      2) Ethiopian emperors and European royalty were exchanging letters. The contents of those letters are pretty damning actually but I guess nationalism doesn't permit you to speak honestly on the topic. They discuss very clear machinations of coordinated subjugation of its African neighbours.
      3) Ottomans not Turkish. And you do not know the definition of colonialism if you call ottoman presence on the EA coast colonialism.
