- The notoriously anti-LGBTQ+ Republican Party in Colorado made headlines with a vile anti-pride email asserting “God Hates Flags” (a reference to pride flags and play on the Westboro Baptist Church’s “God Hates F**s” slogan). A gay Republican candidate in the state, Valdamar Archuleta, seemed shocked by the vitriolic email, and announced that he’s rejecting his own Party’s endorsement. In this video we take a closer look at the controversy and explain why this rhetoric from Colorado’s GOP is not shocking.

We don't even have to do anything to be attacked as "groomers". My crazy sister falsely accused me of being inappropriate with my nephew just because I would give him bear hugs in front of everyone once a year when I saw him. My brother blamed me for my nephew being attacked by students in his class when he called them out for telling an anti-gay joke and said that he has a gay uncle. I never even told my nephew I am gay. If he had asked, I would tell him not to tell anyone I am gay in that small, homophobic town where I grew up. BTW, I only like old (70+) men.
The crazy sister might be operating under a general groomer hysteria we are seeing across the country. Although it could be motivated by homophobia too. I do see way too many people these days though who have basically gone full Qanon and see pdfilia everywhere--even on the left.

I can't stand the Log Cabins because they legitimately want to help those of the LGBTQ community but they are unwilling to challenge their own party when said party attacks those of the LGBTQ. They see this happening and refuse to do anything, but actively want to help. They are the worse offenders because they're not hateful, just cowards.

I think people conflate views with parties far too much. He may have conservative views but the Republican party is not the party of inclusion and understanding. They may tolerate gays but they do not accept them as equals just reluctant allies.

Same reason why they want to ban abortion, contraceptives, and gender affirming healthcare. It's about control and dominance for them. They want women back in the kitchen and pregnant, they want gay people back in the closet or killed if they step out of line, and they want to force trans people to live as the gender they were assigned at birth or be killed. A major tenet of their ideology is denying people basic bodily autonomy.

I'm a gay man in NYC, so the overwhelming majority of "leopard eating faces" comments I see are from my fellow NYers complaining about Democrats' soft-on-crime policies. "Store looted in your neighborhood? Oh well, you got what you voted for". And there are a lot of comments like that, as NYC is stuffed to the gills with more conservatives than probably any other city in the US.
I'm shocked and dismayed. Those leopards have gone too far this time. I'm just SHOCKED, who woulda thunk it???

It's a common phenomenon within minority group. For example, in the black community, there is some prejudice against the darker skinned black people.

The part that makes me despise them is that...I don't think they're unaware of what they're doing. They're playing a game - push the right buttons, say the right things, play the right part, and you get to do basically whatever you want as far as corruption and embezzlement goes, you have a grand old time with your go of running things and come away richer than you already were when you get bored.
He knows exactly the history he's referencing, he knows exactly the harm he's doing, because this isn't just a recent thing - it's a long used, and long established as effective, tactic to demonise the people you're trying to oppress and use word salad and false outrage to make them seem like the problem.
He's not just saying dumb stuff, he's hitting specific talking points carefully developed to promote, minimise and justify prejudice.
The bit that makes him an idiot is the shock that the people he's manipulating him are actually as rabid and hateful as they seem, and are not doing this as a fun little game you play with all your friends. Essentially, he's rallied an angry mob, told them they're god's army and is now surprised that they're not following his orders like trained soldiers/props.

This is a clear example of a lack of critical thinking skills. For years the GOP has gone out of it's way to deny that those of LGBTQ community should not be afforded the same rights as those of straight people. This isn't new, this isn't hyperbole or exaggeration. They have made it painfully clear that they do not respect LGBTQ rights. So the fact that a gay Republican is "surprised" at this turn of events is nothing short of willful ignorance. This guy _wanted_ to pretend that there was nothing wrong with his party's view on LGBTQ peoples and willfully decided to ignore the obvious. But when the obvious is thrust directly in his face he had no choice but to make a decision. I'm glad he made the right one, but he should have seen this coming a mile away.

@@cassiusdhami9215 I understand that history, but as someone who was raised in a VERY religious household, I think faith is a different case entirely, especially in the black community. Throughout history, black people have often leaned on faith as a source of strength and togetherness, in the face of mistreatment and hate. Personally, I am no longer religious, but I completely understand why so many black Americans, even LGBTQ ones, hold on to faith. It's something they were raised to value and, even thought religious folks can be abusive, some gays are able to separate the people from the faith. I couldn't do that, so I quit the church when I left home as a teenager.

I live in Denver, a pretty liberal city, and we have a gay governor. We have a pretty large pride parade from what I hear.
To be honest, though. I don't pay much attention to things I'm not involved with. Anyway, my point is that I hear more about pride month from conservatives whining about it, than I see "pride being shoved down everyone's throats"
If conservatives didn't talk about it so much I probably would forget it's even pride month.
Oh, and one more thing. In Cap Hill there's a bar that has no assigned gender to the restrooms. Men and women sharing space. Just adults doing their business while minding their business and no one is being assaulted 🤯
