I've loved Billie since discovering her 61 years ago as I finihsed high school. To see and hear her recorded a few years before that, and in such great voice, was a special moment for me. Sound quality is amazing for TV in 1956, greatly adds to the experience.
Here Holiday is more singing than the night at Wein’s Storyville in Boston 1953 although in this concert she’s three years older. Even her voice is in better shape and sounds younger and good emission in better health. And more… there were tv camera and she knew they were recording her. And here she is backed vigorously and properly. They all are in good mood and shape. They all work. And they work good. ❤
I love this! Rare and amazing. Although 3 years before her death her voice wasn't completely shot on this and so nice to be able to see her perform. Strange Fruit still haunts me every time I hear it.
