- The Supreme Court released three major decisions on Friday. The court ruled to overturn the decades-old Chevron doctrine, limiting how federal agencies can enforce regulations, raised the bar for obstruction charges against Jan. 6 rioters, and upheld a law that lets cities ban homeless people from sleeping outside.

@@ubiquitouslady3990but they are not doing that. They’re also not providing shelter. And rents get higher and higher each year. I make nearly 100k and can barely afford rent. My children are not afraid of homeless people as I have taught them that we are all human. We have fed homeless people, or paid for them to stay at a hotel to be able to shower and use the restroom it for only one night. We should house them like they’re doing in the Netherlands. Not all countries struggle w this. We don’t have this issue in PR which is an American territory. Because, we take care of each other not caring about their orientation, religion or race. And I think that’s at the heart of how it is here. That doesn’t mean you’ll never see a homeless or seemingly homeless person walking around or an occasional mentally ill person or addict. But, it’s not one of our many issues that we deal with. On the mainland, we simply lack empathy and have messed up priorities. We don’t have public bathrooms and folks defecate on the street, themselves or on the subway. I would not mind a voluntary or even mandated tax to handle such things. I don’t want us to look like a third world country. But, a lot of us just don’t care. We have to stop the real estate market that dominates most of our economies, from becoming more dystopian than they already are. I work in housing court in Brooklyn, NY. Good. Unelected officials should never be able to make laws, levy fines or implant public policy.
The end of Chevron deference means judges, most of whom are unelected, now get to make laws, levy fines, and decide public policy. What does the EPA do? Depends on what some guy appointed to the Bench decides that day on a whim.
They were interpreting vague laws written by Congress. Now unelected judges will do that instead.
Lawyers will make more money now 😂 court took power from executive branch.
I will take less bureaucracy any day. Too much government telling us all what we can and cannot do all the time. Judges and prosecutors won’t have the time to do what all these unelected agencies do. This means more freedom in the end, plus possibly more rulings unending more regulations.
The Constitution is the Supreme law of the land,, everything else is left to the legislative branches, state and federal, the courts interpret these laws and see if they violate the Constitution. This is how its supposed to work. Decisions made can be upheld, but they can also be challenged indefinitely. Really the problem is Education on what each Branch is able to do. The SC bringing back common sense one ruling at a time.
Chevron Deference gave federal agencies the power to make regulations in cases of unclear laws passed by congress. These un-elected officials ABUSED this authority to effectively pass NEW LAWS with CRIMINAL PENALTIES NEVER ENVISIONED OR WANTED BY CONGRESS. i.e. 1.) The EPA using their authority over "navigable inland waterways" to order the draining of drinking ponds for cattle even after the rancher spending $200,000 to create a small drinking pond that INCLUDED getting permits FROM the EPA. The EPA order came with daily fines, criminal prosecution, and jail for a 100 yard pond. 2.) ALSO the BATF who for over a decade publicly and in documents said pistol braces were legal on pistols. This was meant for, but not limited to handicapped people. They then REVERSED this rule for no reason and made millions of Americans felons at risk of years in prison for owning "short barrel rifles", even though the firearm was NEVER a rifle. The courts after a couple of years ruled that the BATF cannot create a new and creative definition that WAS NOT passed by congress and the Congressional definition WAS NEVER UNCLEAR. This is the far greater court case of the three and does not hinder any federal agency from enforcing regulations. It stops them from creating NEW LAW WITH CRIMINAL PENALTIES by an un-elected and unaccountable federal officials.

Homeless people don't WANT to sleep indoors.
@@gund89123The question is did they become dependent on drugs prior to homelessness or are drugs a symptom of being homeless. Id think it's the latter.
If people are barely getting by, starving, lonely, etc with no one who can support them, and drugs take the edge off of those feelings, then ofc ppl in poor situations are going to be incentivized to do those drugs. Providing jobs that pay a living wage or affordable housing would reduce the stress people of the risk of being homeless altogether.
