I got admit to Sustainability resourced, engineering and management. This course is being held in Magdeburg and is a inter-disciplinary course and blends both Technology and economy. They have Fluid mechanics, Machine designing, Computer aided designing like Matlab etc. I want to be a Executive in a company or Product manager etc. Can i design a car by studying Machine design and computer designing?
To be come a car engineer you need an Engineering university. To become a car designer (which is not an engineer) you need a Bachelor in Transportation Design school university, from 3 years course to 4 years course according to Design school program. Skills needed to become a car designer are: Talent, Skills in drawing freehand on paper your own ideas and a lot of passion because to become a car designer is extremely hard! Good luck.

Car Design field is about problem solving finding alternative creative solutions that often are translated in new technical solutions. In Engineering very often is about solid realistic solutions that work already and students must rely on those. Two different worlds. Second most important: to become a car designer means to study to exercise our onwn creative talent learning how to communicate it thanks to all skills and rappreesentation techniques such as drawing, sketching, illustration, digital work , manual 3D modeling in Clay, Virtual 3D modeling with Alias Autodesk software (and not Catia V6) or similar, learn how to present, learn how to study social behaviours and future trends in society. Now let's come to the technical part applied to design development. Design process & planning, but also know a bit about main technologies like forming sheet metal , plastic technologies, materials in general. All the real heavy duty technical engineering part in automobil company is made by engineers that are paid for that. they work with car designers and design managers and develop new technical solutions pushed by designers and that is how we create innovation (or a part of it). Designers and design managers to defend the chosen design model force engineers to find more creative technical solutions (it is never the other way around). Now last point: can you go to engineering and after take a master year in car designing and become a car designer with a good competitive portfolio? My answer is NO! Reason is simple, you need at least a bachelor of 3 full years of Transportation Design to put together a valuable portfolio after 4 months of design internship. The best would be 4 years of bachelor design school and not any school. You need to find the right school that really teaches car design with the right teachers, program, facilities, modeling, computer lab, companies collaborations... To be a car designer means to be higly talented with a knoc out portfolio to hope to get a creative job. I hope I answered to you. take care.
