After watching more than 50 vids about how to be productive, how to focus, how to end procrastination, how to make to do lists, how to achieve goals, how to study efficiently blablablabla. You are the only single person, like i am being serious, ONLY single person that gave tips that are different and actually usefull. As a person who cant finish more than 2 tasks from to do list and cant focus more than 3 hours in entire day, I managed to make 8/12 tasks from my to do lists, and studied 5h 25mins with actually understanding it. Thank you so much bro, thank you. Just came to thank you before sleep. I appreciate you.
Ahh this is genuinely such a nice comment to read - it's really impactful seeing that the video's been able to help, and that it's made a genuine difference for you. Thank you very much for taking the time to comment, it's appreciated, and I'm very glad that you noticed a difference - I appreciate you too and I hope you sleep well haha

For years, I’ve followed a routine of studying for an hour and taking a 15-minute break, which I engage in activities like knitting or playing drums. This method has helped me cope with stress and manage my ADHD, providing a valuable balance to my academic efforts :D
this is quite similar to what i do! I try to focus for as long as possible and as soon as things dont make sense anymore i take a 15-20 minute break! I wish you good luck in studying/whatever you're doing

Best of luck with med school! Thank you for this!
For sure, different fields but a lot of the principles apply to everyone! Glad to hear you really enjoy what you do, I feel like that's becoming a rarity these days with people doing things they dislike for the sake of the rewards! I hope you continue to enjoy your work and manage to improve your balance too if that would help - thanks for the support, and i wish you the best 🙌🏽
Great tips! Never thought of applying progressive overload to cognitive focus! Albeit I have trouble meditating for more than five minutes; I think we can all get to thirteen with practice. Cheers!
Very much appreciate the Super Thanks! For sure, it's a simple bit of advice, but i feel like it's very personalised in the sense that it's there to work on your previous record, instead of trying to suddenly focus for 10 hours because other people have done so! And if you have trouble with meditating, you're right in saying you can get there with practice, doing what works and slowly improving is a great way to go :) i hope my videos can continue to help and good luck with everything 🙌🏽
Thank you for the advice that doesn’t just rely on “getting rid of distractions” because I often get distracted pacing in circles around my room for hours, or just sitting there and being lost in my own thoughts. I can get rid of my phone, but how do I get rid of those other distractions? Chopping off my legs? Popping out my brain?
i am a 15 year old constantly watching short self learn videos trying to become the best version of myself. I am infinitely grateful for the tips you have offered me today. my boards are coming near and i want to get good grades. thank for your help, salim!
I love how your videos are concentrated on the most important things, so they aren’t unnessesarly elongated. I just started 2nd year of medschool and my focus is such a mess, I’ve never experienced something as intense as this one (even though I have trouble concentrating my entire life). I will try focus training and refocus meditation
Thank you, appreciate the kind words! I try to just keep it to what's important + give a bit of background through personal examples, so glad to hear it feels like it's a good duration. It definitely is hard to focus with everything around is, but i hope this can start to make some difference :) hope it goes well
I am a 39 yr old chemical engineering student, so this kind of input is invaluable to me right now. Thank you for this! There is hope that I might be able to have a life this semester. 😅
Dude!!!! This video is insane. Although I’ve known all the technique you mentioned, I just implement it without understanding the basics. Your video is like a breakdown of the focus techniques and how they can link to each other. This really helps me a lot!! Great video! Thanks!
Hahaha yeah, some people such as yourself know the right things to do, but bringing full attention to it helps just that bit more to be consistent and more systematic with it - thanks and I'm happy to help! Hope to see you in future comments :)
what a chad, this guy works out, studies medicine and has a successful yt channel on which he helps people to study and to better themselves, much appreciated, all valuable knowledge
Hahaha appreciate it bro! That's what it's all about to me - having a balanced lifestyle and not just studying all day and neglecting personal/self-improvement Thanks for the comment, and i hope the videos can continue to help 🙌🏽
This is a gold mine post. Seriously I spent half an hour trying to find it again. Before I realized UA-cam stores the history. The clear target thing. Pure diamond quality advice.
It’s rare I can say a video had actual impacts in my life but this is probably the video that has done the most for me. It helped me recognize things I was doing for good or for worse and gave me a solid framework to build more personalized focus methods
Thanks for commenting - this is genuinely great to hear!!! For sure, sometimes just being aware of what's good vs what's bad is enough to get us back on track - I hope it helps and hope to see you in future comments :)
I haven’t even finished watching the video, but that timer idea is genius!! I was thinking “that first point of setting a goal doesn’t work for me. I always have a specific goal, but I can never focus long enough to finish it.” But, maybe it’s because those goals feel too far and too daunting, or maybe like “I’ll reach it eventually even if I get distracted right now.” So, timing how long I can focus sets that focus time itself as a goal! Like a high score in a game! It feels achievable because you know you’ve already reached that time, so how hard would it be to go a few more seconds above it? Or a few more next time? And so on until an eternity of focus!
Exactly, it's good to gamify it a bit since we like to reach new targets and I find this way to be extremely effective to gradually improve over time - I hope it helps and you see an improvement in your focus!
ive been having struggle focusing lately, i have exams in 20 days and im not prepared. im gonna try these methods right away. thank you mcuh wonderful video. subscribed straight away.
I absolutely love how straightforward your content is and how your editing and quality is just fantastic. Also this was the first video of yours I watched and I ended up watching 3 since they were all so neatly connected. Keep up the good work Salim!
bro should be famous this is the best channel for this genre of content by far! short, concise, different and straightforward. french kiss. keep up the spectacular work bro! first help video i watched that wasnt at 2x speed
Ahaha very much appreciate the kind words! I try to keep it to the point and with actionable content, so I'm glad you enjoyed :) Hope I can continue to put out useful videos 🙌🏽
That is very important video for me, because after my graduation i couldn‘t focus enough if i am at home or anywhere except my workplace. I work already full time but i want to develop my english and my german. I will try this advices to focus on the Weekend. Thank you 🙏🏻
Ahh sounds quite busy so I can imagine how focusing well is important for you! Good luck with this advice and remember to start off by taking it easy - don't overdo it and gradually work your way up! Hope the language learning goes well and that this advice helps :)
This was simultaneously so SIMPLE, so effective and so easy to understand. Yet no other productivity youtube (that I have seen) has talked about this so far. Thank you!
I try to keep it simple, as simple is what works effectively long term! And you're welcome, I hope it helps - hope to see you in future video comments!
I’d like to add for ADHD (though I’m sure it has merit even for neurotypical people) an extra 5th tip: body doubling. Half the point of sitting in a library or cafe to study is body doubling, but even at home one can find ways online to study and complete tasks with others present. As a med student with ADHD, _this_ was the game-changer for me, though I have to agree that I need to get back onto refocus meditation since I’ve been lazy with it but it was also very effective when I practiced it
Body doubling is effective but I think it has a critical problem, and it's a problem shared by many coping mechanisms of that kind: External dependency. Don't get me wrong, some dependency isn't bad and it's necessary. Such as my adhd medication or my glasses. However, getting overly used to things like body doubling is going to have your mind learn that you need body doubling to work effectively, while you want to teach yourself *intrinsic* motivation, as in ways to motivate yourself from within. ADHD makes us prone to be stimulus-bound, so we readily rely on external stimulation, however internal stimulation can be boundless
Good to hear you have other things that help too! For sure, changes in environment do seem to help, although my friends with ADHD (and myself included) tend to avoid relying on things external to us to focus / study. I hope you get back into the refocusing and I hope it helps - thanks for engaging!
I feel like i agree with this - it's always good to have a strong core of intrinsic motivation to do things - external sources of motivation aren't as stable or reliable! Thanks for commenting!
Man i won't lie to you you're a genius I myself am a medical aspirant and have been struggling with all the above issues So now after listening to you I'll try and implement them in my study Ill try and keep you updated on a weekly basis But thanks a lot I think this will actually have a positive impact on my studies
Ahaha i dont think I'm a genius, just have systems that worked well for me to do things efficiently and productively! Good luck with your studies and i hope my videos can continue to help :)
This is a wonderfully done video. Especially finding a way to allow every person to be flexible with their baseline focus time of the day, it’s genius.
I'm glad you enjoyed - for sure, a lot of the tips people mention like getting rid of distractions etc. are oversimplified or generalised for everybody - so I reckon something like this would (hopefully) work for more people. Thanks for commenting!
Watched this video once, thought "huh", then spent three days and probably two hours to try to find it again. Great video, wish the algorithm liked you more :(
I'm currently a student pilot and although med school and flight school are quite different I feel that a lot of your strategies can also be applied for flight training. thank you for the effort in producing these videos, wish the best for your remaining studies in med school! also want to mention that I love how short and concise each of your videos are and love that you link each of your new videos back to a previous video you made so smoothly. also very impressive that you put the extra time and effort to reply to so many comments :)) it's amazing to see how quickly your channel has grown over the last few uploads and I can definitely see it growing much more in the future, rooting for you and thanks again!
I have a friend who's training to become a pilot too, and it sounds tough, so good luck and I hope you enjoy it!! For sure, I think a lot of strategies can be adapted, just takes a bit of initiative from the viewer to figure it out which you seem to have done :) Ahaha i try my best to reply, sometimes I miss a few! Genuinely it's really nice to have your support, always appreciate kind comments ahaha, hopefully the channel continues to grow and help more people 💪🏽💯
From a fellow med student, I can’t be more thankful. Struggled since the start of getting in university, and some other sites didn’t help much. Imma try this anyway. 🙂
The timer trick is working amazingly for me already, thank you so much! One thing I’ve found that helps as well is for the amount of time I spend taking a break to be limited by how long I was focusing for. It stops me from saying “I’ll just take a quick five minute break” then getting distracted for hours on end, and it also makes it fun to have a tangible reward for focusing longer! It definitely helps to not be too strict about it too. Like, if I feel my focus drifting but I immediately bring it back, I keep the timer going because if I leave to reset it, I’ll just lose my focus completely. It’s like with meditation! Lots of people get frustrated and give up because their minds keep wandering, but, that’s the point. To learn how to bring your mind back from wandering, not to prevent it from doing so in the first place. So if I can bring my focus back, there’s no need to punish it by resetting the timer, and I can keep on going
Glad to hear it's been helpful for you! Definitely, it wouldn't be healthy to be too strict for sure, it's all about knowing some things are part of the process, just like the wandering of the mind during meditation. Thanks for the comment and I hope to see you in future comments :)
Thank you for making this video under 6 minutes. Seems like most of these self-help videos 10+ minutes long, but you concisely explained important concepts in a way that was easy to understand.
Yep, i try to just be concise coz i appreciate that 10mins is a long time to listen to someone you don't know hahaha, so I'm glad you appreciated it - thanks for commenting and I hope you found it helpful!
Why is this dude still so underrated. Its criminal how you dont have over a million views cuz not just the tips you give are useful, tested and unique but also you dont forcefully try to drag the videos too long to get that extra viewing time...really appreciate content like these bro.🎉keep it up
Ahaha very much appreciate the kind words and support 🙌🏽 i try to keep it concise and share what personally works, so I'm glad you like it! Hopefully the channel continues to grow 💪🏽💯
I can say this works because I've been unknowingly doing this to myself, but I kept forgetting the headspace to keep it going. Having this knowledge all spelled out is very important.
Thank you so much for this! For the first time I actually felt that I could focus and study more effeciently with the methods you mentioned. Other people's suggestions never really worked on me, for example getting rid of distractions, the pomodoro method, writing my goals down, reverse procrastination, etc. The timer method that you mentioned was awesome, I feel like this is a great way for me to sort of compete with myself, for the better
You're welcome, I'm happy to hear that you've been finding it helpful! I feel like yeah, a lot of the time, other videos tend to give somewhat generic advice, so I try to give what personally has helped me on a deeper level, so I'm glad to hear it's been useful - hope to see you again in future comments :)
Ok, so I tried this yesterday for work projects (I work from home for myself)- and this Really Helped! I've been working long hours but having a hard time completing some projects, and feeling very frustrated by how slow progress was. By "gamifying" my focus time, and task-oriented goals, I got much more done! This is really great advice. Simple, do-able and effective. Thanks!
It's always really nice to see people come back to comment on the results of the advice, so thank you! Definitely, gamification is a good way to build focus, not just for short-term term but also long-term, which is why I've been able to do these things for so long hahaha You're welcome and I'm glad it helped - hope to see you again in future video comments :)
The stopwatch trick helped me not only be conscious of when I was getting distracted but to realize I was and stop the distractions in their tracks- MAJOR lifesaver. THANK YOU!
this is really so helpful, i was getting tired of hearing the same advices that usually dont work for me. im glad i found this video, literally so much information in just 5 minutes!!
Sounds silly but this genuinely got me excited to go study. Progressive overload is an amazing idea and a perfect example to get your point across. Needed this video to push me through Power Engineering. Thank you for the amazing, strait to the point video!
Not silly at all - this is the outcome we want, to actually want to study and not hate it!! Appreciate the support, and I hope it helps with your course :)
This is extremely helpful. I will be sitting for the med-entry exam soon, and as you may know, the sections are lengthy. So, I'll use these techniques to maintain my focus. Thank you!!
Same but tbh I just recommend studying 2-3 hours each day and get a good 8 hours of sleep. It'll help you get rid of homework and have more time for studying other subjects or just doing the stuff you want You should watch "How I only study 2 hours a day" by Ruff cuz it helps sooo much
Maybe you need motivation to help you do work, coz there's the inherent barrier to study due to the energy it requires - I have a video on study motivation coming out this saturday which might help. Also though at the same time, if you have school during that time and feel like you learn enough during it, maybe you don't actually need to study outside of it?
@@Salim_Ahmed It's the school system in Germany. I have a total of 12 different subjects in total, all with tests and (sometimes) homework. I have, on average, four to five different subjects per day, and so I really *should* spend more time re-learning the new topics that I didn't understand during the lessons. I am having a hard time just keeping up.
2:49 lol that's funny cause you're right. i will literally turn everything off, only have my textbook in front of me, only to get distracted by clouds outside my window or some car coming up the street or a piece of carpet that doesn't look right and I have to readjust.
@@Salim_Ahmed now, I wonder if these principles apply to helping me focus sleeping as I wake up randomly after sleeping 1230am-330am - now 530 still unable to fall back asleep. No distractions until now, being on my phone. Perhaps meditation but I’ve tried it before to no avail.
i love that these tips are creative, thoughtful, & structured - these are methods that could realistically be used by anyone struggling with completing their tasks. as someone with adhd, this really helps. thanks so much :) !!
I'm glad you liked it :) for sure, I make sure my tips are actionable and realistic, based on things I do myself (or people that I know do)! I hope it's useful, and thanks for engaging!
This was a great video! Condensed presentation of concepts that I can employ directly to achieve tangible results. Lately, I've been having a hard time focusing like I used to on certain tasks, and the information presented reminded me of some things I'm not doing anymore and how I can get back to where I was. Thanks for being awesome.
Yep, sometimes we just need a reminder of the right things, and that gets us aligned to be back on track to getting things done more effectively! Thank you for your kind comment, ohpe it helps, and I hope to see you in future video comments :)
I have so many videos about this but my god! When you said if you take the whole day doing one thing, that is not efficient you are so right. Subbed right away
One of the best videos I've seen in years. Your direction of the final question seamlessly leading into the next video is top-notch marketing. Much respect.
You're welcome! And that's what it's all about - doing these things efficiently so that we have a good balance between work/studying and personal life!
THANK YOUUU !! I'd be sitting for hours studying but still manage to fail my exam . I KNOW that i have a probblem with focusing, but i thought it will just go away with time . soo i'm really thankfull that i clicked on this video.. starting now with those amazing tips
I was so frustrated that I couldn't focus and my exams are in 15 days. This video ❤helped me so much. I can't believe I studied for 3 hrs straight today😭 Thank you sir
I thought i was fully focused on this video. Until it ended and i tried recalling the four main points he mentioned I could only recall 2 even after thinking for 15 mins and i kept getting distracted and having other thoughts throughout the span of those 15 mins Its scary how i did not even realize i wasnt focussing and how short my actual attention span is Thanks a lot man. This is one of the only videos available on yt where they dont give the most basic methods and actually make you feel like you can finally get over the problem of focusing
It's good that you were self-aware, as most people gloss over this and carry on being unfocused! Glad to hear you found this useful, and I wish you all the best :)
Assalamu Alaykum, Salim. Been watching your videos for a while as I have national Med entrance exam in February. Your video on how to read faster has significanty changed my study plan. Keep making these. Pray for my exam. May Allah help you and me to the right path.
Is this the NEET thing I've been hearing about bro? It means a lot that my videos are actually useful, so I hope it works out well for you brother and thanks for the support!!
Damn man. I regret not finding your channel earlier. You're videos are greatly useful for me coz I'm having my boards in two months and I'm just preparing. Luv you man thanks a lot. Keep going ✨🎉👌
Appreciate the support, hope your boards go well!! And hopefully still got a long journey ahead for channel growth, so maybe you're still early hahaha Hope to see you in future video comments :)
Thank you for, unlike many other channels, being very concise and focused in your presentation. These 6 minutes were indeed useful, I'll definitely implement at least some of the tips you mentioned. Thanks again and I wish you all the best! 👍
you're an inspiration dude. I've been looking for a dude that can live up to what he says in a youtube video. Being able to do/learn multiple things while having a really technical job (i work in public finance and have to be at 100% all the time) is really something i want to be able to do. Thanks Salim
Ahh i appreciate this, coz yeah i definitely try to show my credibility through my clips (whether it's gym, piano, socialising) on top of studying to demonstrate i have a good balance between personal self improvement and academic success (and not just study all day 😂). I'm sure if you continue to work hard and towards self-improvement you'll achieve what you set out for! Thanks for your comment and good luck with everything :)
Wow this video was really good too! I hope it gets more views, since you talked about refocus meditation on the topic of ADHD, that reminds me, meditation is scientifically proven to help ADHD, like overtime it reduces it's effects to a certain extent. Also, you used a diagram and name, venn method, thank you! really helpful, loved it! I love how your videos are just short enough too, a lot of value in a little time. This was a good video, trying to deal with distractions is such an immediate concern for me, especially in this day and age.
Hey thanks for the comment! Haha would be nice to reach a wider audience, so let's see how it goes I try to give a name n method as i feel like it makes it more tangible and organised, so hopefully that worked ahaha Very much appreciate the support, and for sure we have a lot of things to steal our focus so anything we can do to improve it will have massive effects
hiya, congrats on your own personal development, it must be amazing being a med student ! I found your video refreshingly consice and informative, I've only watched it once so far, but I will watch it once more and really use it. As a researcher on neural networks, what really hit me is that I tell a computer all the time to do the things you say here, but never thought about applying them to myself - that really opened my eyes in such an obvious way. I also like the meditation idea - i will really give it a try. Thanks again for the upload and hope you are doing well in your studies/career.

I hope it helps and good luck with your course!!

You are an inspiration 😮

That's great! I'm 22 studying chemical engineering and it's overwhelming
That's what it's all about to me - having a balanced lifestyle and not just studying all day and neglecting personal/self-improvement
Thanks for the comment, and i hope the videos can continue to help 🙌🏽
Thinking of focus like progressive overload is genius!

Ahaha appreciate such a highly praising comment, I hope it helps, and hope to see you in future video comments!
I have ADHD and I cannot express how much this has helped me! Pretty sure it's a reason why I'm not going to completely fail midterm assessments :,D
I'm glad to hear that you found it helpful!! Good luck for your midterms!
I was skeptical at first but when I tried the last method it actually worked!!, thanks so much for this video
I'm glad it worked, and you're welcome!!
This is a gold mine post. Seriously I spent half an hour trying to find it again. Before I realized UA-cam stores the history. The clear target thing. Pure diamond quality advice.
Hahaha I'm glad you found it that useful!! I hope you try them out and it helps over time, thanks for commenting :)
No bs straight to the point. I appreciate this kind of content.
Glad you liked it, i hope it helps!
ive been having struggle focusing lately, i have exams in 20 days and im not prepared. im gonna try these methods right away. thank you mcuh wonderful video. subscribed straight away.

Hahaha you're too kind! I'm glad to have your support :)
I’d like to add for ADHD (though I’m sure it has merit even for neurotypical people) an extra 5th tip: body doubling. Half the point of sitting in a library or cafe to study is body doubling, but even at home one can find ways online to study and complete tasks with others present. As a med student with ADHD, _this_ was the game-changer for me, though I have to agree that I need to get back onto refocus meditation since I’ve been lazy with it but it was also very effective when I practiced it
Body doubling is effective but I think it has a critical problem, and it's a problem shared by many coping mechanisms of that kind:
External dependency.
Im definetely trying this starting tomorrow. This by far the most efficent looking methods i have seen. Thank you, best 5 minute of my day
Glad you liked it!! I hope it helps you over time :)
Man i won't lie to you you're a genius
I myself am a medical aspirant and have been struggling with all the above issues
So now after listening to you I'll try and implement them in my study
Ill try and keep you updated on a weekly basis
But thanks a lot I think this will actually have a positive impact on my studies
Great video, wish the algorithm liked you more :(
Ahaha glad you found it - hopefully the channel continues to grow 🙌🏽
Oh my god, you genious man! This is all such good advice! No nonsense, clear, well-explained and well-justified. Fantastic!

For sure, I think a lot of strategies can be adapted, just takes a bit of initiative from the viewer to figure it out which you seem to have done :)

From a fellow med student, I can’t be more thankful.
Struggled since the start of getting in university, and some other sites didn’t help much. Imma try this anyway. 🙂
Thanks for engaging, and i hope it helps - good luck w med school!
So if I can bring my focus back, there’s no need to punish it by resetting the timer, and I can keep on going
dang it u nail it as to wt ive been experiencing!definitely gonna try yr advice as well❤
@@whatsnew955 Good luck!! I hope it works for you, you can do this! :D
Glad to hear it's been helpful for you! Definitely, it wouldn't be healthy to be too strict for sure, it's all about knowing some things are part of the process, just like the wandering of the mind during meditation. Thanks for the comment and I hope to see you in future comments :)
No video has ever helped me as nicely and as quickly as this video. As someone with ADHD, I found your last tip VERY helpful so thank you
Glad to hear it, I try to give actionable advice that's helped me too - all the best!
This video was actually very helpful unlike every-other-“how to focus” video-ever. Thank you very much. Definitely giving these a try

Glad to hear it! Hope it's useful
I’ve watched 2 of your videos so far and its doing wonders, thank you my brother!
You're welcome bro, hope it continues to help!
I can say this works because I've been unknowingly doing this to myself, but I kept forgetting the headspace to keep it going. Having this knowledge all spelled out is very important.
For sure, sometimes we need a reminder for these things to actively remember to do them! Thanks for engaging!
Definitely, gamification is a good way to build focus, not just for short-term term but also long-term, which is why I've been able to do these things for so long hahaha
You're welcome and I'm glad it helped - hope to see you again in future video comments :)
I stumbled upon this video because I lost focus. I’m confident the tips you gave will help me out a ton. Great video.

My main problem is having school from 7:50-17:10 which just sucks out all the energy to do any more focused work.
Same but tbh I just recommend studying 2-3 hours each day and get a good 8 hours of sleep. It'll help you get rid of homework and have more time for studying other subjects or just doing the stuff you want
You should watch "How I only study 2 hours a day" by Ruff cuz it helps sooo much
Maybe you need motivation to help you do work, coz there's the inherent barrier to study due to the energy it requires - I have a video on study motivation coming out this saturday which might help.

Ahaha yep exactly, it's why I'm not too keen on the idea of 'removing distractions'. I hope the video helps and thanks for engaging!

This was a good video, trying to deal with distractions is such an immediate concern for me, especially in this day and age.

hiya, congrats on your own personal development, it must be amazing being a med student !
