"Train Kept A-Rollin'" (or "The Train Kept A-Rollin'") is a song first recorded by American jazz and rhythm and blues musician Tiny Bradshaw in 1951. Originally performed in the style of a jump blues, Bradshaw borrowed lyrics from an earlier song and set them to an upbeat shuffle arrangement that inspired other musicians to perform and record it. Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio made an important contribution in 1956 - they reworked it as a guitar riff-driven song, which features an early use of intentionally distorted guitar in rock music.
In 1965, the Yardbirds popularized the song as an early psychedelic blues rock song, due largely to Jeff Beck's fuzz-toned guitar work. Theirs soon became the most copied arrangement with recordings by a variety of musicians. After guitarist Jimmy Page joined the group, the Yardbirds recorded an updated version with new lyrics as "Stroll On" for the film Blowup in 1966. With a highly charged rhythm section and a dual lead guitar attack by Beck and Page, it is seen as a forerunner to heavy metal music.
When the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, "Train Kept A-Rollin'" was adopted as a concert opener by Page's new band, Led Zeppelin, during its early (and again later) touring years. The song also became an important part of Aerosmith's early live repertoire and in 1974, they recorded it for their second album. Their version is actually a two-part song - the first has a slower, groove-oriented arrangement, while the second uses that of the Yardbirds. Aerosmith turned it into a hard rock standard and a staple of classic rock radio; it remains one of their most popular tunes. "Train Kept A-Rollin'" has been performed and recorded by numerous other artists.
In 1974, Aerosmith brought "Train Kept A-Rollin'" into the hard-rock mainstream.[38] Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton had performed the song prior to joining Aerosmith. Perry recalled, "'Train Kept A-Rollin'' was the only song we had in common when we first got together. Steven's band had played 'Train' and Tom and I played it in our band ... It's a blues song, if you follow its roots all the way back ... I always thought if I could just play one song, it would be that one because of what it does to me".[38] Perry's band began performing the song regularly after he had been moved by the performance of "Stroll On" in Blowup; Tyler recalled his band opened for the Yardbirds in 1966:
I had seen the Yardbirds play somewhere the previous summer with both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the band ... In Westport [at their supporting gig on October 22, 1966] we found out that Jeff had left the band and Jimmy was playing lead guitar by himself. I watched him from the edge of the stage and all I can say is that he knocked my tits off. They did 'Train Kept A-Rollin'' and it was just so heavy. They were just an un-believable band.[40]

How on earth are you all not doing more Aerosmith?? They have SO many great songs. "Back in the Saddle", "Eat the Rich", "F.I.N.E", "What it Takes", "Sweet Emotion", "Dream On". Too too too many to list.
A real standout you might enjoy is "Draw the Line" (from the live "Rockin' the Joint" cd/dvd.) Blistering. Joe's insane slide guitar solo and Steven's screaming after it are unforgettable.
Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are forces of nature. Whatever you do, make sure to get LIVE versions of their stuff. Studio versions are of course also great, but you have got to see how they interact, move, dance, riff and jam live. Constantly extremely entertaining to see. No one has a voice or stage presence like Steven Tyler and Joe plays guitar like it is an extension of his body.
If you are just hearing them and not seeing them, you are missing a LOT. Just try one video. Please!

In my humble opinion the newer stuff Aerosmith did like I don't Want To Miss A Thing does not have the same heart and soul in the music as there older tracks from albums like self titled Aerosmith , Get Your Wings , Toys In The Attic and Rocks. This song was off the album Get Your Wings and the song that follows this one on the album is called Seasons Of Wither which is a excellent track , one of my favorites.. Peace...
Old blues song revamped. One of the coolest things was the first half done in studio, second half live and spliced in. Then followed by their best song on that album.

I recently learned that the guitar playing on Train Kept A Rolling was by a sessions guitarist by the name of Dick Wagner not Joe Perry nor Brad Whitford either,for one reason or another they were unavailable for the recording of this song and Dick just happened to be at the studio so the producer asked him to do it,he also plays on Same Ol Song And Dance.

You would never see so many "air guitars" at any other concert than at an Aerosmith concert. The air guitar is automatic at an Aerosmith concert, it just happens.
Trivia: Those guitars you hear are played by Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner of Alice Cooper. The Aerosmith guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford do not play on this song.

Aerosmith is one of the all time greats. I've been listening to them since my uncle played them for me when I was 5 years old (1981).

Such a killer album! I grew up on that Aerosmith disc. I went to grade school at my church (Catholic) and I remember bringing the Get Your Wings album into into my 4th grade class and asking the Nun to put on "Lord of The Thighs". The Nun was somewhat put off by the band photo on the album cover. That Steven Tyler pulls a heck of a man-spreader pose.
Remember this LP came out when I was in junior high.

This wasn't actually live. Pretty sure the crowd noise was added in later. There's isolated tracks pulled from guitar hero of this song, so clearly it was a studio recording.
Very nice piece. It's a very old song. In 1951 it was recorded by Tiny Bradshow. The song became known by the Yardbirds and later played as an opener at Led Zeppelin concerts.
It’s an old cover song and a great deal of the guitar parts were played by studio musicians Hunter and Wagner that weren’t in the group.

I was fortunate enough to see Aerosmith near the stage. I won a pair of tickets from Rock station in Florida. Normally, I buy tickets in the grass area. I believed Aerosmith is doing their residency in Vegas. Hopefully, they will tour again before hanging it up.

This song is actually an old Rock-a-Billy tune released in 1956 by Johnny Burnett. It's worth listening into it since some of the standard guitar riffs can be found right in there.
The Yardbirds also covered this tune.

Actually this song was first done by Tiny Bradshaw in 1951 and later by the Yardbirds (though a bit slower) ......Aerosmith just made it a classic, and the live version is even better....played in a blues band always loved to play this when everyone got some booze into them.

This is not live. It’s a studio. The crowd is overdubbed onto the second part for effect but the entire song was recorded in a studio.
Yup. And what should have given it away: The "all night long" is a crowd bit. This "crowd" didn't sing along at all.
See if you can find a real live version. A real crowd really adds to this song.
The crowd was actually a bunch of office workers in the studio. They ran microphones thru the offices.

First off, what's wrong with weird? Now I've been a fan of Aerosmith since the early '70s. I have to admit I had a number of 8-tracks in my case in the car back in high school, Rocks, Toys in the Attic, Get Your Wings and such. Great band and a 4 plus decade run for these guys.

Jailbait is great, and the album it's off of, "Rock in a Hard Place" is a personal favourite of mine as it was the first Aerosmith album I bought with my own money. It may not have had Joe Perry and Brad Withford, but Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay filled in admirably in their absence.
Finny thing is neither Joe nor Brad played the songs solo. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner happened to be in another studio and were asked to come over and try it.
Good to know I'm not the only one who seems to know that fact! Those two would later become Alice Cooper's guitarists for the Welcome to my nightmare Tour.

It is not live, that applause was added after the recording. It's an old trick.
Neither regular guitarists Joe Perry, nor Brad Whitford, played the leads on this song. Legendary session guitarists Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner overdubbed these amazing solos on this track.
BTW- this is not Joe Perry playing lead guitar, it’s session player Steve Hunter. This song really isn’t live, it’s just a recorded crowd added in to make you think it’s live
That's interesting. Joe and Brad are both good enough players to replicate this solo live, but apparently didn't yet have the confidence to come up with something that good this early on in their career. Or.maybe it was a producer decision to bring Hunter in?

Very popular "outside gangbang at midnight" song. Gangbangs used to be pretty common before A.I.D.S. took all the fun out of it. Especially church girls. They were (still are) always willing to do anything, just like preacher's wives. NOT a country myth. 100% true.

Nuttin need be said...it's A-smith. BUT, I can say that after seeing them in each decade of the 70's, 80's, and 90's...they used to put on one of the most horrible live shows I've ever seen...and I've got over 200 concerts under my belt. The last time I saw em in the 90's, it wasn't bad. I gotta say that I stuck with em over the years though. The 70's and 80's shows? They were in the middle of their drug-fueled fall from grace until Run DMC, and MTV pulled em back up from their plywood bed six feet under. The live shows suffered horribly simply because all of em bein fkd up on stage. Hell, I was fkd up right along with em in the crowd...and when you're in THAT state and STILL think their performance was trash says something. God love em though, they pulled themselves up from the depths (and I did as well...gotta grow up sometime right?). Anyway, I'll always be a fan of em. Hell, when I think iconic American Rock bands, I need go no farther than A-smith and ZZ Top...until my baptism by fire in '83 when Thrash/Speed Metal hit. But, that's another story for another day. I'm fifty-five now, retired, divorced since '08, and have the best daughter a dad could wish for who's a senior in college. BUT, I've still got my Megadeth, Metallica, and a crapload of damn near every other type of music to live vicariously through, or if I so choose to separate my face from my skull on any given day. I can also honestly say that I dig what you guys are doing, and the direction where I assume you're taking The Wolf Hunterz...the only thing I'll impart upon you is dedicate yourselves to the TIME and effort it takes to keep bettering yourselves at your craft (tried that too in the eighties...ended up putting thirty plus years in at one of the large package shipping companies lol. I learned real quick that my dumbass was gonna starve to death and/or probably add to the rest of all the other "homeless" musicians living on Sunset Blvd in L.A. lol). You'll get what you're shooting for if by nothing else, time and experience. That'll work itself out if you can keep from killing each other, or perhaps catching a case of chronic "Axl Rose/Geoff Tate egomaniac disorder" and burn everything down over some stupid sht. I know my opinion doesn't mean crap in the grand scheme of things...or maybe you want to just tell me to shut the fk up and mind my own business lol. I won't lose any sleep over it. But, time and age HAVE taught me a few things. It's up to you guys whether to give me a bit of quarter or not. Either way, I wish you all the luck. Apologies for all the "ratchet-jawing." It happens...

My one favorite album from these guys is Gems, or rocks, or diamonds the title kept changing. Joe Perry was a monster on the guitar, when he left Aerosmith did a few albums on his own band name The Joe Perry Project they were freaking awesome
