  • Welcome to the Blanche Marie tour! As we embark on this journey to West Suriname, be prepared for an adventurous drive. The dirt road during the rainy season can be particularly challenging, requiring careful navigation with an offroad vehicle. Expect a drive of approximately 12 to 15 hours.
Upon reaching Blanche Marie, we are greeted by the majestic Moedervall, a stunning waterfall surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. This area is teeming with wildlife, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts.
As we explore, keep an eye out for a diverse array of bird species. You might spot the colorful painted parakeet, the blue-headed parrot, and the scarlet-shouldered parrotlet, all feasting on ripe mangoes. The air is filled with their vibrant calls, creating a symphony of sounds.
In the evening, we had an encounter with a bothrops atrox, a type of venomous snake that calls this area home. It's a reminder of the rich and sometimes dangerous biodiversity of the region.
The Blanche Marie Falls hold historical significance as well. They were discovered in 1897 by Corstiaan van Drimmelen, the district commissioner of Nickerie at the time. He named the falls after his beloved wife, Blanche Marie.
As we venture further, we might come across the giant monkey frog and its friend, the colorful amereega trivitatta, both fascinating amphibians that thrive in this environment.
On our journey here, we were fortunate to see a group of white-lipped peccaries and numerous agoutis, adding to the wildlife sightings.
Thank you for joining us on this unforgettable tour of Blanche Marie. Enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty and the incredible wildlife that makes this destination truly unique.
