France deployed troops to New Caledonia's ports and international airport, banned TikTok and imposed a state of emergency on Thursday (May 16) after three nights of clashes that have left four dead and hundreds wounded. "This state of emergency is pretty unprecedented in New Caledonia", said FRANCE 24's International Affairs Editor, Philip Turle. He gives us his analysis.
