I was impressed with how Pereira was able to stuff most takedowns in the fight. He’s definitely improving

I wanted Alex to win and im happy that he won, but against better grappler he would be finished in first if it gets to the ground

This wasn’t the best fight for the fans but for Alex it was massive. You can tell he’s really put in the work to be better on the ground. Good for him.

Besides improving his ground game, Alex also seemed to have learned restraint. He didn't go crazy like he did with Israel when Jan was up against the cage. He only threw one or two strikes at a time while waiting for counters. He definitely learned a lot from that loss.
Yeah, Alex was so patient when he had Jan on the fence seems like he is growing quickly in MMA. God I wish this guy joined UFC 3 - 4 years earlier we could have had a good well rounded exciting KO artist in our hands delivering crazy fights.
It looked like Alex had a chance to finish Jan in the second. We expected him to resume that attack in te 3rd. Jan was more aggressive. You can see Alex is also gassed out well into the 3rd. But was it conservatism or exhaustion that Alex didn't go for the finish in the 3rd? Everything is a balancing act. Not too much or too little of anything. I hope it was exhaustion, not caution when he needed to get the finish. All fighters need to get their finishes so it isn't in the hands of the judges. (Flip side is... he knew he was close to finishing Jan and got that tunnel vision, but this time with more caution, of only focusing on that single punch he needs... instead of going for more body and head kicks or the flying knee we were all begging for?)
Tbh going aggro against opponent who is up against the cage was alex's biggest weapon and weakness as well.

@@eduardowood8502 I am not a hardcore Kickboxing fan but I have watched all of Alex's and some of the famous kickboxers in glory. Yeah, he wouldn't have been the striker he is now if he joined ufc 3 - 4 years earlier I completely forgot about that.
Alex ground game is really improved, I hope he improve more his grappling game for his next fight. No KO but he really showed us on how he improved as an MMA fighter.

Poatan is known for his left hook but his leg kicks otherworldly... It's unreal how much damage they do when it looks like he's lightly tapping the opponents leg.

And he has his own technic, he kicks with the heel, so nobody has a sparing partner to emulate that. That's the kick Adesanya said he need to learn from Alex.
@@Ashukesharwani Well said. Exactly spot on. He's so effortless, quick, and fluid with those leg kicks and they carry so much power. Surely his opponents know what's coming, but they don't really understand how quick he is with it until it's too late
I really think this was better than Alex getting a first round knockout because we got to see his ground game tested (in high altitude too).

This was hella impressive by potan. The way he survived the 1st rd and defended the other td against Jan who’s a great grappler shows hes coming into his own as a mma fighter…I think he’s got a legit chance against jiri💯

Clear victory btw. His submission defense and ability to get up was very very impressive. And only 3 months after getting knocked out. His chin looked good without the strong weight cut. I think he’ll be the next champ.

Jan was very disappointing in this fight. Took him down, yeah, but just laid on him. Didn't do anything with his takedowns. Alex deserved this win, at least he showed heart.
Every time Jan tried to hurt him in the stand up he did land on Alex, i dont know why he went for the wrestling he can actually KO Alex.

Jan has always had cardio problems, and the fight was at high altitude which made it worse.
Anyone saying this was a robbery, do you know how fights are scored? By this logic Jack della madellena lost his last fight. A takedown with no damage does not get scored very heavily. The first round Jan hung into him and did nothing that is in no way a 10-8, 2nd and 3rd clearly got out struck and was on his back foot exhausted. That takedown at the end was so pointless the judges probably didn’t even take it into account. Alex did all the damage in the fight and is the clear winner. You cant get a couple of takedowns do nothing with it and cry robbery, that’s ridiculous

I just watched the entire fight. I had Jan winning the first round, Pereira winning the second, and Pereira edging out the third. Even the commentary was calling it for Pereira.
UFC needs to stop having events in high altitude places. Both were tired, especially Jan, feels like we were robbed of a good fight
That is a good point but these guys know where the fight is and should take enough time to acclimate themselves. Minimum 3 weeks at altitude

Great to see Alexs defence on ground. He survived rear naked choke that's highly commendable. Jan was fucking scared for a stand up fight with pereira not surprising he went for a take down very early in the fight but that cost his endurance.
Close fight but Alex defo deserved the win, wouldn't complain if a rematch was made

as a big pereira fan i must say that we all expect a ko from alex But sometimes it is better to play it safe. it was a very close match, alex showed that he can defend himself better in wrestling. Alex played safe he did not take a big risk, other than that any match after you are ko beaten in such a way as alex is most likely that your performance will be less in your first next round. his next match he will be even more aggressive and take more risk and hopefully even go for a quick ko! chamaaaa
