Almost everyone in Australia has a stainless steel kitchen sink, often a double. Any build up disappears with a quick clean of pure soap (Velvet Soap in Australia) on a steel wool pad (NOT the pre soaped variety). Wet the pad and rub over the bar of soap. Scrub the area lightly (be liberal with the soaping). Then wash off with a clean cloth and hot water and dry it off with a microfibre cloth or paper towel. You will have a sink that looks new!!😊
For the shower glass: clean as usual, then use a car windscreen (windshield) product called Rainex. It is designed to make the water run off and not leave mineral deposits, for clear glass.
I have to diagree with you about the stainless steel sink. A good quality one is easy to keep clean & shiny. They are super durable too. Ive lived in homes with ceramic, stainless steel and some sort of plastic/formica sinks. By far the easiest to use & keep was the SS.
I totally agree. I have a black cast-iron kitchen sink very odd shaped and it’s Undermount. The bottom is so dull now and you can’t do anything about it except replace it and that means tearing out the granite which I can’t do. I would give anything had I bought a good quality stainless steel.
I'm not a mom and I don't want to spend a bunch of time cleaning LOL. I clean as I use things and quarterly, I'll pick a day to do thorough cleaning. The task I like least is cleaning out the refrigerator
Agreed! Having a glass table with a small child and teen, there's fingerprints and other "stuff" throughout the day, every day. I'm in a mental space now where I'm not sweating the small stuff. I just know now never again for our next kitchen table!
1. Brick backsplashes 2. White grout 3. Glass shower doors 4. Open shelving 5. Intricate and two handled faucets 6. Plain white flooring or very dark flooring 7. Ornate chandeliers 8. Upside down light fixtures 9. Basket light fixtures 10. Curtains with grommets 11. Fancy trim on cupboards 12. Gas stove 13. Stainless steel sinks 14. Sink grates 15. Counters with lips or edges 16. Glass topped tables 17. Light coloured area rugs or solid black 18. Shag rugs 19. Wicker or rattan furniture 20. Metal window frames 21. Jetted tubs
use cascade or jet dry on shower glass. Oven cleaner and a steel daddy can clean grout on some surfaces as well as stoves and fiberglass showers that are grimy. Stainess steel sinks are easy to clean, I like scrubbing bubbles and a magic eraser to clean or a scrub daddy and after you dry it polish it with some zep steel polish. Best tip I will give you that is not on this list is take down the ceiling fans, especially if you have pets that shed. Those fans will blow the fur everywhere on shelves, counters, etc. Take them down and the fur will only end up on the floors and any furniture they lay on.
I have a beautiful glass door in my master bathroom. Easy....WE joined a YMCA and exercise almost every day and we take our showers there.@@Christine-zk6hk
Yes grommet curtains. My spring cleaning includes washing every curtain in my house. They wash well! Grommets don’t rust as the curtain dries quickly. I don’t put the curtains in the drier. I love them. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Just agreeing on most of this!!! SS sinks are my favorite after having redone different 4 kitchens in last 30 years, and been in so many different rentals with different sinks. Your friend for your kitchen and many other areas of your home is Barkeeper,s Friend. Least favorite sink is white enameled sinks, one out of the 3 I have had was great,.. because it was made in 1920’s was large, wide and deep, and had amazing thick and super hard enameled coating, and at over 80 years old, had NO chips, was still white when cleaned with old fashioned Comet or Barkeeper’s Friend. The newer made white enameled sinks I have had are thin enamel, do not clean up back to pure white, and have chip, after chip after chip. Newer ones not as well made. Great video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@treluvstrees999 In middle of designing a new kitchen now, that has a white enameled double sink,.. with chips and stains,… I bought a new large 1 bowl stainless steel sink,… before I have even decided on cabinets,… 😂😂😂
We just moved back into a gutted house that the tenants destroyed. We're slowly doing all our renos and setting it up the way we want. This was SUCH a great video full of things I wouldn't have considered -- I really appreciate you making it! The format is also just so easy to listen to on the side while working. Thank you!
@@tarynmaria_Yes, even the 1960s era Junior Girl Scout manual I got at a used book sale recommends what my parents and grandparents did every night after dinner dishes - clean the sink. Takes just a minute when done daily. Oh, and another secret from my grandparents - you don't miss out on family time when family members join you in the kitchen to wash, dry, and put away dishes. It was always an assembly line in their little kitchen, with lots of taking turns, chatter, and getting caught up with each other PS the sweet mom of an old friend taught me the secret for shiny stainless steel pots, pans, and sinks - Cameo cleansing powder. If you can't get Cameo, then Barkeepers Friend powder or liquid works great too.
When I bought my house it had a stainless steel sink and I didn’t like it for the reasons you mentioned. I had grown up with and lived in homes with white enameled cast iron and loved the old fashioned look of them. However with Formica countertops the stainless drop in sink did have a much lower threshold to wipe water back into the sink. I originally was thinking about replacing the countertop and sink with stone/under mount farmhouse sink in fire clay or enameled cast iron. This was about 10 years after I bought the house. Someone said to me “You’re going to break a lot of glasses and dishes (especially since I do NOT have a dishwasher). Then it hit me that indeed I HAD broken lots of dishes in the places I had lived before and in the many years I’d lived in this house to that point I had never broken anything. This is the reason they are popular. No staining, gentler on dishes and more sanitary since they can’t chip. I’ve since gotten used to just wiping it out with a microfiber cloth after I do dishes. I plan to remodel in the future to change the layout, but now I’m planning on a stainless sink.
Yep, you will definitely break dished in a non-stainless steel sink because they are more dense. Stainless is just thin steel that is more forgiving. I think stainless sinks are easy to keep clean (think Barkeeper's Friend). non-stainless sinks seem to get skuffs from pots and pans that need to be rubbed out.
Very good point. I used to hate our gas range because it made the heat in the kitchen unbearable in the summer. Then several years ago we had a week-long power outage in the dead of winter, also in surrounding cities. We heated the kitchen and adjoining living area by just turning on the oven now and then lol. We could also make coffee with our old stove-top percolator, and cook.
@@tarynmaria_I love a gas stove and I can’t seem to keep the glass one looking good. Can’t get stains off and previous owners scratched it up. If I can I want to switch to gas and deal with the mess. I had a stainless sink and loved it but I have a very dark ?charcoak? Best black? Stone sink the previous owners put in and it cleans up well and no stains show. I like a shower curtain with a curved rod so it never touches me plus the curtain id weighted. It waged in washer. And brick behind stove isn’t for me. I am not a great housekeeper. No lie. There are worse things.
The thing about stainless steel sinks is that they have to be made from a good quality of stainless steel. So a 14 gauge steel is MUCH thicker and more durable than a 22 gauge and will hold a shine much better. When I picked my new sink, the lowest gauge they had at Lowe’s was a 16, but I just wipe it out with a magic eraser and it’s still super shiny three years later.
Because of you, I tried a magic eraser on my stainless steel sink minutes after reading yoir comment. It cleaned and shined with ease. Thanks for the tip.
@@jeannig7565 Oh I’m so glad!🙌🏻🥰 (I had really cheap stainless steel sinks in my first two apartments and they were really frustrating, way before the invention of magic erasers so I don’t know how much they would have helped.)🫤
You know what I despise cleaning?! Really beautiful ornate crown molding and baseboards!! It gathers so much dust dog hair all of it and takes long time to clean
My spring and fall cleaning involves the baseboards, especially fall, before the heat starts running. By the time of spring cleaning in March, there’s an inch of dust on the baseboards. I would like to have a word with whoever invented those foolish things.
@happycommuter3523 Take the baseboards off then and enjoy the view of - and losing items in - the gap between the wall and floor....and all the damage to the plaster or sheetrock walls from brooms, mops, and clumsy shoe-clad feet. That's why baseboards are there. The compromise is to use "clamshell" trim as a baseboard. They will look terrible, but the curved edge is a little easier to run a dustmop along than boards with flat or ornate edges. Hope that helps
Tips for cleaning your kitchen sink grates (removable) along with the grates on a gas stove…DISHWASHER! I’ve been doing this for years and it works like a charm. Just do a separate load with these items, and use regular old dishwasher pods. Also, I’ve washed grommeted curtains numerous times in my washing machine: just place each panel in a zippered laundry bag prior to washing.
I wash my big grates from my gas stove in my dishwasher as well. I cleaned mine once or twice by hand, and that was enough for me. Been using the dishwasher ever since.
Also 💯 on downward opening light fixtures for bathrooms, or anywhere. Learned it from previous (came with house) fixture. When we renovated our bathrooms I made sure all the fixtures were not upward opening dust collecting bowl style
Same! When I retire from my cleaning business I never want to see a glass shower door or stainless steel appliances again! So refreshing for me to go into older homes that aren't loaded with the latest high maintenance trends.
ummmm you can wash curtains with the grommet things lol I'm slowly switching mine out (styles/ trends have changed along with us renovating/redecorating) but I've had them for about as long as I can remember now. And while I dont wash them as often as I probably SHOULD (I wash them 3-4 times a year)... they just go in the washer! I dont put them in the dryer, just hang them back up (the weight pulls the wrinkles out). Theyve never rusted. Never caused any damage to any of the washers I've had (and I've had cheap ones to more expensive ones). The curtains themselves have all come from amazon and been varying levels of quality- from pretty nice to pretty cheap. But like I said- never an issue washing any of them. I would LOVE to have area rugs, but live on a farm thats covered in red clay, and have 7 dogs. I have no area rugs ;)
I have regular curtains, I do the same thing, wash them, hang them back up to dry and the wrinkles dry right out of them hanging back up and l save on running the dryer. Yeah!! Done this for years.
If you (general you) are worried about the grommets in the washer you could put them in a pillow case (body pillow size would probably be best) and close it with safety pins, rubber bands, or a good strong knot (I've had knots come untied when washing stuffed animals that didn't fit in the mesh lingerie bags before)
We recently built a house and my design brief in order of importance when making choices was 1 - how easy is it to clean, 2 - functionality, 3 - how does it look/design aesthetic. I had to remind myself constantly about this list as you forget and can get caught up in the design/looks aspect of it all. So far I don’t regret any of the choices I have made so far. A lot of things on your list are things I purposely avoided and knew I did not want for the reasons you stated. One thing I didn’t do and wish I did was plan my window coverings into the build. There are some really cool things you can do eg recess your curtains up into the ceiling so no pelmet to dust.
There used to be a cleaning product called “sparkle plenty” available at lighting stores. You just put papers or old towels under the fixture. Spray it and let it drip. When it dries it sparkles. Hello from Toronto. 🇨🇦
You don’t want to clean your kitchen sink every week?! I clean mine 2-3x/day. It takes about 20 seconds. And a couple times a week, I put a couple drops rinse aid on a sponge and it shines instantly. Sink grates don’t have to be metal. We have a silicone one that I throw in the dishwasher every other day and it cleans effortlessly. White grout, I have in the floor of my all-white shower. I spray mold and mildew remover once a week or so and it bleaches back to white. I have literally never scrubbed it!
I clean a lot with steam. I have an upright (on wheels, 1450 watts, about $40 - $50 the last I looked). It blows out steam. Good for crevices, mold and mildew, and stainless steel sinks. I use steam on my matresses, whether it's my clothing iron or my garment steamer. I love my garment steamer.
Brilliant. Steam is actually hotter than boiling water. Read somewhere that a steam burn for a chef is worse than water, but anyways, you're eliminating any potential bed bugs problem. Heat is the best treatment professionals use. What I like to do is lay the mattress outside on my terrace a couple times a year on very hot sunny day. And turn it over halfway through. The sun dries out all the perspiration and dampness inside and makes it all springy and fluffy again.
I agree totally with the gas hob. We switched ours out to a induction one. Best decision. We also have white tiled flooring in the kitchen. It is such high maintenance.
I live in an area that has hard water. I have stainless steel sinks in my kitchen. I use a sponge with a drop of dish soap to wipe the sink after dinner and follow with a sprayer with half white vinegar and half water then wipe with paper towel or microfiber cloth. Beautiful. Now and then I will wipe the sink with a minute amount of mineral oil after my cleaning routine I just described. I love the fact I don’t have to brush on porcelain fix paint after scrubbing rust off of my chipped porcelain sink. I did that for decades because the new porcelain sinks will always get chipped soon after replacing it. I am free! 😊
My jetted tub is my favorite thing in life 😇 massaging my body, so relaxing! I use a baby bottle brush cleaner. The nipple brush fits perfectly in the jet holes.
I put water and couple cups of bleach and run the tub to clean the filters. If you use bubble bath a lot you’ll end to do more often Vinegar works too but bleach makes me th8nk it’s cleaner
I know you're not talking about outside, but your video made me think of this: I used to have those plastic chairs outside that you can buy everywhere. Every time I would turn them over to wash them, there would be a spider and his egg nest tucked into one of the nooks and crannies under the chair. I got rid of them and now have patio chairs that are coated basket weave. There are air holes now, so the spiders don't want to live there.
@@CobraDove1111 I never kill them, or any bugs! I appreciate spiders, I just don't want to sit on a chair that they are living in. I used to turn the chair over until they moved out, or if it it was just a spider by itself, I would transport him with a big leaf to the garden. I don't have to worry about doing that anymore! They can have the whole rest of the yard to live in and enjoy!
I thought for sure you’d say fake plants! Lol. Those are such dust collectors! Great vid. I agree with pretty much everything. And I happen to have plenty of these items in my house 🤣
I’ve never had an issue with my stainless steel sinks. 🤷♀️ However, I totally agree with you on the basket lights and shag rugs. Not only for cleaning, I just happen to think they’re ugly! 🤭
Stainless sink is the most practical sink out there. They’re not supposed to be cleaned daily. It’s a house not a model house for show. Who fusses about a water mark over a stainless kitchen sink?
I love stainless steel sinks. I keep mine looking shiny, which takes a once a week *very* fast cleaning with Barkeeper's Friend or Pink Stuff. It's sturdy, worry-free, easy to keep clean, doesn't chip, doesn't stain and I like the look. And let me add that mine is landlord-provided cheapie.
I've had both stainless steel and white porcelain. HATED the white, it was a nightmare to keep clean! I couldn't wait to get rid of it. I can live with water spots as opposed to having to scrub just to get some spaghetti sauce stains out constantly. Worrying about water spots sounds a bit OCD to me.
Good video! I do have curtains with grommets and have washed them many, many times. On cold water and then dry for ten minutes and hang them right away. I haven't had a problem. Just my experience.....
Yes I just washed mine 3 days ago. They're on French doors opening out onto the terrace and get very dusty. Wash on delicate and hang them up immediately. Wrinkle-free. Why would anyone put cotton or linen curtains in the dryer? Much better to have less expensive natural fibre curtains you can slide down every couple of months than more expensive ones where you have to fuss with the hooks and pay the dry cleaner.
I replaced my old kitchen cabinets with open shelving and it has been easier for me to clean and keep it uncluttered. It’s truly not difficult to clean, simple wipe and it’s done. It gives it a more open space feel especially in smaller kitchens. It’s mainly a matter of preference 😊
Finally - so much sense regarding popular decor! I don't have a backsplash in the kitchen. I just try to keep them all clean, regular wipe-downs, and every now and then, I just paint a layer of the current white-ish colour over the top again. No problem!
I love open shelving in my kitchen and always receive compliments. Daily items needed are actually washed daily, visible and at hand . This set up and allows “ essentialism” in the kitchen and minimizes clutter . Additionally daily needed items are attractively displayed and cleaned every 3 months as were cabinets in the past . I found cleaning cabinets to be a demanding job compared to open shelving ; while the full size pantry stores additional non daily appliances and additional food serving platters used for extra company or occasions .
Excellent video, I loved it! We are preparing for an extensive (read “expensive”😅) renovation and our contractor’s have pushed several of these things. I have avoided most all of them...the light fixture tips I missed so a special thanks for those. I do like stainless steel sinks and I’m willing to put the work into keeping those up in the kitchen. But, glass shower doors, nope. They are beautiful, but I run from those!
I have a genuine question: if you have a shower, what do you install instead of glass shower doors? My only alternative idea is a shower courtain, and that is horror incarnate (except it's cheap, which is the only reason I used to have those).
@@ania7930 There's no reason for a curtain to be a horror lol, unless you never toss it in the washing machine. Liners are also washable but if they start wearing out you can replace them pretty cheaply. If you're obsessive about it like me, the best curtain hooks are the ones that have open hooks on both sides, so it's super easy and fast to hang and remove curtains and liners separately. You don't have to struggle to open and close hooks.
Can I add to the list a waterfall faucet! I thought it would be so cool but I constantly have watermarks and blobs where the water falls. It’s a pain - stay clear!
Use a special silicone grout sealer and NEVER have a discoloration issue! I did a complete bathroom teardown and redo with floor to ceiling tile and white grout...over 15 years ago - grout still looks like the day I 'sealed' it!
I had tile put in my large laundry room. I don't know what they put in the grout but it is so easy to clean. I think there must be a sealer or something in it. It's smooth and cleans as easy as the tile.
Regarding grout, MO MATTER WHAT COLOR, it needs to be sealed. Do it immediately. Don’t wait until it’s dirty and you need to clean it first. As far as glass shower doors, I have an older style hammered/privacy glass shower door and love it so much more than shower curtains. I would never go back to curtains again!
I love my glass top table because it's so much simpler to clean than my old wooden set. I have 4 messy grandkids 😅. Jetted tub ...buy the right cleaner tab and it's a breeze to keep clean. I enjoy the content 👍
Depends on how dark. I had white tiles on kitchen floor. We put in bigger mottled gray natural stone looking tiles now... they are great.. they show nothing. I am shocked when i brush every evening how much is on the floor.. you can't see them. It always depends on shades and textures and grain/mottled. Totally agree concerning basket light shades.. look nice, but crazy to keep clean..I only buy stuff that is easy to clean. Totally agree. My old flat I had flat cabinet doors.. loved it. My new house have ornate doors.. hate them.. hope to change out one day. I have stainless steel sink in kitchen.. love it.. had a different one before.. ripped it out. I wipe the inside of my sink every time I use it.. and in the evening clean and dry it.. no issues. I have one rattan chair in the living room since 20yrs.. not issues concerning dust. Jetted tub.. unhygienic. Fun video.
I recently redid my kitchen cabinet fronts and went with flat fronted doors for this very reason. All those little corners that you need to clean with a toothpick.
I use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Sponges for easily cleaning my stainless steel sink and even the sink grate. I have them on hand for scuff marks on my walls. But I also find them to be great to keep around my sink for keeping it clean and shiny.
Loved the last video and once again I agree with everything except for one small thing. Open shelves are great if you used them right. They're not meant for your pretty, special occasion dishes and such that seldom get used, (a kitchen hutch or curio cabinet would be best for those,) but instead are best for dishes that are used daily. Your dishes shouldn't be on there long enough to gather dust and grease. They're also best put close to your sink so that dishes are quick to be put up, but also quick to grab, and the shelves give you space to put some lovely plants close to your kitchen window. Open shelves are also nice for those of us who do want to show the dishes we own, as many of us collect particular dishes in the same way some people have a mug collection. Now some tips! About the two shower heads, the stainless steel sinks water marks, the shower glass doors, etc. All of this is really from hard water and there is a good, simple remedy - get a filter. There's under sink filters you can buy off Amazon or Lowe's that you can simple attach to your pipes and not only will it help with the hard water spots, but now you can get a glass of water straight from the tap and have it taste great. Same thing for the shower heads. There are filters you can attach to them to stop the hard water. The bonus to these is that you'll find your hair and skin will be left so much softer and less dry, and some people say they have less hair shedding, too. If you have the money for it, you can also just get a whole house water filter system instead.
So glad I found your channel! 😁 I hate to clean but I want a clean house. I agree with you on so many things! I might be the only one who agrees with you on not liking a gas stove. I’ve had gas and electric, will stick with electric. Hated cleaning grates! Love my glass cooktop. And unless you’re a gourmet chef, I can cook with electric just fine. You just have to get used to it. And I actually think gas isn’t healthy. The new rage is induction, but I don’t care for that either. It’s the same technology as a microwave. Didn’t care for a stainless steel sink in the kitchen either. It looks clean for one day! I know some people don’t mind cleaning their sink daily, but I don’t want to! 😅
Ugh! I have a few of these and I totally agree. A pain the backside to keep clean and looking nice. Shower doors with our hard water kills me. I realize I will never have fully clean looking doors again and can’t wait to eventually have them replaced.
Hello, how about using a shower curtain while showering, so you can keep it dry? Then I would look for a glass cleaner with wax in, so it would stay shiny, and any drops reaching it would roll off. To get the best use from the cleaner, spray whole area, leave for 30 minutes, then shine. Hopefully this helps. 🙏
I had been thinking about many of these by myself, now you've confirmed my worst suspicions. ☺ I hate cleaning but I can't cope with stuff that's literally impossible to clean, that's frustrating! Most people won't renovate their homes very often, so it's totally unpractical to adopt some fashion trends that will become a domestic nightmare from the very start. I'll try not to make these mistakes in the near future, thank you!! ❤
I totally agree with almost all your saying. I don’t mind the stainless steel in some places like kitchen and bathroom but I do agree with you. I know someone things are harder to clean them others but there’s no way around it. You want a clean house you gotta to do the work. But I feel that having less it’s really the way to go here. Don’t buy things you don’t need but buy something you really love that is practical something your definitely going to use all the time. Not something that will collect dust and you never use. Ya less is better. I will definitely get rid of a lot of stuff I have just to be stress free and clean faster and well. We don’t need everything that comes out. Use your money for something more important. Love ❤️ your videos. Thanks 🙏 for sharing.
The gas rates are very easy to clean.I take them put them in my dishwasher along with all the knobs and whatever other parts come off and boom comes out spotless. And the stainless steel sink is so easy to clean it takes 20 seconds to clean. After I'm done washing dishes I take either a rag or a paper towel and just wipe down the water in the sink very easy.
Thank you for doing Part 3 to never have in your homes video. You are a blessing! You said this is your last video in the series. I do hope you will do more "never have feature is your home if you hate cleaning" because these lists were so helpful!
I have a 2 inch paint brush in my dusting tools. It works excellent on all small crevices, cracks & hard to get at spots…. Baseboards, cupboards doors, light fixtures, ornaments, fancy handles, etc… I have always had ss sinks, with no issues. 🥰
I loved my jetted tub and wish this house had one! I never had any issues with it, cleaning or otherwise, so I don't get why people no longer want them. I miss sitting in a relaxing, bubbling, massaging tub at the end of the day - it's so therapeutic! And for those who prefer a free-standing tub - what are you thinking?! First you're simply sitting in a bowl of water and then, then you have to clean not only the inside of the tub, but the outside of the tub, the floor behind and to the sides of the tub. #thanksnothanks
you just calmed my mind by bringing up wood with any kind of details in it! When i see a awesome carved coffee table or whatnot, my immediate 2nd thought is going to be forget about keeping that clean or even dust free!
If you have a nice table and kids, especially girls, consider getting a glass top to go over it. Nail polish, makeup, and all sorts of craft products destroy a beautiful hard wood veneer. You can put a picnic table in the dining room or keep the kids locked in the basement but I found that the glass top has been the best solution.
I live in an 1892 house. I renovated with subway tile so I researched what would have been used. I found out that originally used concrete for the grout. I used a concrete colored grout and it works wonderfully. Doesn’t discolor and doesn’t show mold or mildew.
May l add to your list? Any lampshade that is made of fabrics, papers, or is damaged by water! Buy lamps with metals, or glass shades. Glass can be colored, frosted, bubbled, filtered w designs. Beautiful! And you can WASH them in warm water!
If you have fabric lampshades, use a lint roller to clean them. Works great and doesn't smush dust into the fabric. For the parts around trim that the roller can't reach, tear off a sheet.
I have two beautiful pleated fabric lampshades, and I use the fabric attachment on my vacuum cleaner to clean them twice a year. Each one takes about a minute. Easy peasy.
The gas stove is so true. I love my gas stove, but it is so hard to keep clean. I had an electrical flat surface cook stove before, and it is much easier to clean than a gas stove. I still like my gas stove, though. Thanks so much for all the tips. It is very good to know for future renovations.
First, I enjoy cleaning. It releases stress and I enjoy a clean home. I do have glass shower doors, and I have absolutely no issues keeping them clean. We do have a water filtration system, so hard water and minerals are not an issue. Have white tiles floor in one bathroom, NEVER again! Have a stainless steel sink, and there is absolutely NO issue with keeping it clean and shiny. You wash your dishes and pots, and you take 1 minute to clean your sink. If anyone is having issues with keeping stainless steel sinks clean, that means they are NOT cleaning their sink (major gross and filled with germs).
I have had white grout in my kitchen backsplash. I guess it was sealed when it was installed five years ago. My husband and I both cook frequently...and I just use a wet sponge to wipe off the tile and its grout. It is still white.
I love using compressed air in a can for cleaning a chandelier or light fixture. Just be sure to use it before you dust and mop. It’s also great for knickknacks, although be careful not to blow them away.
I hate cleaning, but i hate dirt even more. I absolutely love my white painted hardwood floor. Because its white i can see everything and i can more easily relax knowing i dont step in something like food and dragging it around. Im moving to a new apartment, and i know i look very much forward to put hardwood floor in that one as well. Im not looking forward to the painting part, but i surely enjoy a white clean home.
Okay, about the counters with edges: maybe the little backsplash shelf is unnecessary, but the outside edge I LOVE on mine. Maybe I am clumsy, but there are countless times spills did not drip down the counter onto my cabinets because that edge is there. I love it!!!
I can relate to the last one, mine is also a clothes rack and the older I get the more difficult it is to get in and out of. When I do use it, I clean it before getting out. I clean my ss sink with Vim, also pots and pans, some I've had for 30 years and they still look good.
Hi! I think there are a lot of great options - I have a black composite granite sink that I love but I have also heard there are some higher grade stainless steel sinks that people really love and say are super easy to clean and look nice!
Grout comes in hundreds of colors. They all have one thing in common, they all turn gray with time. Save time, cleaner and aggravation. Chose gray grout to start, It’s not as cute but you won’t be sorry.
❤ the stainless steel sink, but mine tends to scratch easily. The sink grate is hard to clean, however, I figured out to use a bristle brush to clean all the crevices. It definitely helped make quick work of it 😊. I use to have white kitchen backsplash & floors. It was the worst 😂.
If you have grouted tile anywhere paint on a grout protector/sealer. Keeps grout from getting dirty by repelling dirt. Just paint it on the grout with a brush. Won’t stain the tile if you get any on it so it’s not a fussy project.
I have had that white tile in my kitchen behind my stove for 28 years. It still looks good. I do clean it as it needs it. It’s ok. I just bought a small electric scrub brush for the things you mentioned. Story to be continued. Yes.. for light fixtures. They are a pain. A swifter duster can be your best friend for those baskets.
Glass shower doors are the easiest thing in the house to clean. After your shower spray vinegar on the wet door, then squeegee it down. All done. I have 25 year old doors that are just as bright as they day they were installed. You can use vinegar everywhere in the shower--the acid in vinegar counteracts the alkaline soap which dulls the tiles.
I use vinegar with a few drops of essential oil (lemon grass or lavender are nice) and spray after showering. Glass door looks wonderful! Yes, we do have a water softener also

Really good list.
Thank you!
This person is over here living in the year 3000.
RainX is great!
I have to diagree with you about the stainless steel sink. A good quality one is easy to keep clean & shiny. They are super durable too. Ive lived in homes with ceramic, stainless steel and some sort of plastic/formica sinks. By far the easiest to use & keep was the SS.
Thanks! It seems like there are varying grades of stainless steel, which makes a difference!
I totally agree. I have a black cast-iron kitchen sink very odd shaped and it’s Undermount. The bottom is so dull now and you can’t do anything about it except replace it and that means tearing out the granite which I can’t do. I would give anything had I bought a good quality stainless steel.
I'm thinking wash the sink grates in dishwasher.
I like my SS sink too.
Yes - 100%!
You don't sound ungrateful for your house you just sound like a real Mom who doesn't want to spend every moment of everyday cleaning things.
Thank you!! 😊
Curtains with grommets can open wider to let more light in when you want to. I love them!
1. Brick backsplashes 2. White grout 3. Glass shower doors 4. Open shelving 5. Intricate and two handled faucets 6. Plain white flooring or very dark flooring 7. Ornate chandeliers 8. Upside down light fixtures 9. Basket light fixtures 10. Curtains with grommets 11. Fancy trim on cupboards 12. Gas stove 13. Stainless steel sinks 14. Sink grates 15. Counters with lips or edges 16. Glass topped tables 17. Light coloured area rugs or solid black 18. Shag rugs 19. Wicker or rattan furniture 20. Metal window frames 21. Jetted tubs
Thank you!
What are you going to have, if not glass shower doors?
@@Christine-zk6hk. Shower curtain 😂
use cascade or jet dry on shower glass.
Thanks for not adding annoying background music! Blessings from Canada.

Yes! It just occurred to me when I read this, it is very pleasant not to strain to hear.
I just subscribed to your channel because you give such practical advice.. 👍🏼
I'm so glad!! Welcome!!
Yes grommet curtains. My spring cleaning includes washing every curtain in my house. They wash well! Grommets don’t rust as the curtain dries quickly. I don’t put the curtains in the drier. I love them. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much, and thanks for sharing about the sink!! ❤️
Good to know! I didn’t get this for my new house upgrade. Glad I passed on the white sink.
@@treluvstrees999 In middle of designing a new kitchen now, that has a white enameled double sink,.. with chips and stains,… I bought a new large 1 bowl stainless steel sink,… before I have even decided on cabinets,… 😂😂😂
I agree with most of these! However, I’m a total bath lover and love large jetted tubs.
Awesome! :)
We just moved back into a gutted house that the tenants destroyed. We're slowly doing all our renos and setting it up the way we want. This was SUCH a great video full of things I wouldn't have considered -- I really appreciate you making it! The format is also just so easy to listen to on the side while working. Thank you!
You are so welcome!!
I love my steel sink ❤❤❤
I think they clean up great
Awesome!
It was always an assembly line in their little kitchen, with lots of taking turns, chatter, and getting caught up with each other
PS the sweet mom of an old friend taught me the secret for shiny stainless steel pots, pans, and sinks - Cameo cleansing powder.
That is so interesting! We have a granite sink and we've definitely broken a lot of dishes (glasses mainly) because of it!
Yep, you will definitely break dished in a non-stainless steel sink because they are more dense. Stainless is just thin steel that is more forgiving. I think stainless sinks are easy to keep clean (think Barkeeper's Friend). non-stainless sinks seem to get skuffs from pots and pans that need to be rubbed out.
all the "water stains" on any surface can easily be avoided by simply wiping it dry instead of letting it air-dry
I put removable wallpaper on the outside of my glass shower doors. It hides what I want and looks beautiful.
What a great idea!!
Doesn’t it peel off from the moisture?
Love this idea!
I sort of had the same idea but used vinyl
I hate my glass shower "cage" so much I hung a shower curtain on the inside. Love the wallpaper idea even more. 🥰
I love my gas stove and chimney. Just because when ever we have power outage due to cold freezing temperatures its a life-saver.
So true!
Don’t gas stoves have electric starters?
They do. But you can use a match or lighter to start them if the electricity is out :)@@enna4986
Interesting, good to know!
As long as your sink isn't the modern square bottom, it's fine. I can't even imagine having a sink that DOESNT self drain towards the center.

You know what I despise cleaning?! Really beautiful ornate crown molding and baseboards!! It gathers so much dust dog hair all of it and takes long time to clean
Yes!! I had that in my part 1 of this video - we have ornate molding all over the house and it's always dusty!!
No button and tuck furniture! Ever!
@sarah9314 - girl YES, so glad you mentioned this!
I love my stainless steel sink in my kitchen. It’s easy to clean. It’s always sparkling. I’m keeping it.
Thank you for sharing!!
I wash my big grates from my gas stove in my dishwasher as well. I cleaned mine once or twice by hand, and that was enough for me. Been using the dishwasher ever since.
I need to try the stove grates in the dishwasher, thanks for the tip
I throw my grommet curtains in the washer all the time. They are 8 years old and still looks good.
@@53sheriI also wash the curtains with the grommets!
Also 💯 on downward opening light fixtures for bathrooms, or anywhere. Learned it from previous (came with house) fixture. When we renovated our bathrooms I made sure all the fixtures were not upward opening dust collecting bowl style
Yes! Thank you!
Spiders love ornate chandeliers...
Gah! Such a good point!
I clean houses for a living. I hate glass showers 😭😭😭
The worst! :)
What would you recommend instead?
a shower curtain?
Vinegar
Good to know about the curtains!!
I have regular curtains, I do the same thing, wash them, hang them back up to dry and the wrinkles dry right out of them hanging back up and l save on running the dryer. Yeah!! Done this for years.
I can totally relate about area rugs and pets.
I put mine in the dryer, no problem
If you (general you) are worried about the grommets in the washer you could put them in a pillow case (body pillow size would probably be best) and close it with safety pins, rubber bands, or a good strong knot (I've had knots come untied when washing stuffed animals that didn't fit in the mesh lingerie bags before)
BarKeepers Friend is great for stainless steel sinks.
Yes - one of my faves!
I find AJAX to be better.
I like Vim cream cleanser.
Yes! I never used to think about the cleaning aspects with some of these design choices but it's so important! Congrats on your new home!

I'm doing a new build and did the quartz countertop continuous up the backsplash! No grout to clean!
There used to be a cleaning product called “sparkle plenty” available at lighting stores. You just put papers or old towels under the fixture. Spray it and let it drip. When it dries it sparkles. Hello from Toronto. 🇨🇦
Interesting - thank you for sharing! Toronto is one of my fave cities!
Thank you! Have a great day!
Very good to know. Thanks!
@@tarynmaria_ you haven't been here lately I take it.......
Whoops, if I said every week, I meant every day!
I clean the sink at least once a day. Wipe it dry at night, à la Fly Lady.
I caught that! I knew you didn't mean it!
😊❤@@tracyannmahoney6482
Right? I clean mine at least once a day. Not sure what she's thinking here.
Steamers are awesome!
Thank you for sharing! Lots of people loving their induction stove tops!
I am free! 😊
Awesome, thank you for sharing!
Yes, the hardness of the water has a major impact on how easy or difficult it is to clean sinks and showers.
Hello! Please tell me the name and brand of mineral oil. Thanks, love from UK ❤
@@jacquelineteale4937 I just buy the store brand. The one I have open now is Kroger. It is just called Mineral Oil, found in the pharmacy section.
My jetted tub is my favorite thing in life 😇 massaging my body, so relaxing! I use a baby bottle brush cleaner. The nipple brush fits perfectly in the jet holes.

I put water and couple cups of bleach and run the tub to clean the filters. If you use bubble bath a lot you’ll end to do more often
Vinegar works too but bleach makes me th8nk it’s cleaner
I know you're not talking about outside, but your video made me think of this: I used to have those plastic chairs outside that you can buy everywhere. Every time I would turn them over to wash them, there would be a spider and his egg nest tucked into one of the nooks and crannies under the chair. I got rid of them and now have patio chairs that are coated basket weave. There are air holes now, so the spiders don't want to live there.
Yikes! Thank you for the warning!
Spiders are beautiful creatures who eat the nasty annoying bugs like flies, earwigs and mosquitos
I hear ya about the plastic chairs. Got rid of ours too. Now we have metal ones that look woven. No spiders hiding there anymore.
I thought for sure you’d say fake plants! Lol. Those are such dust collectors! Great vid. I agree with pretty much everything. And I happen to have plenty of these items in my house 🤣

Mine sure isn't a model house!
@@RogueWave2030 It's funny how people get so self-conscious when their house looks like someone lives there.

Awesome, thank you for sharing!
Or just stick them in a laundry bag in the washer… but yes hang to dry = easy peasy
Exacly! Never again cabinets with doors. Just shelfs and drawers. If you want clean and under control kitchen you need to clean in anycase.
I am so happy I replaced the stainless steel sink with a black composite one ❤ it is sooo much easier to clean and don't get coffee stains
Awesome! I have the same sink and agree - super low maintenance!
I have. It also best sink
Finally - so much sense regarding popular decor! I don't have a backsplash in the kitchen. I just try to keep them all clean, regular wipe-downs, and every now and then, I just paint a layer of the current white-ish colour over the top again. No problem!
Sounds great to me!
Thank you for another helpful list to help us all! I really liked the idea that you had for washable curtains instead of the grommet curtains!
You are so welcome! 😊
I love open shelving. My clutter is neat and organized. A quick sweep of a (soft) vacuum brush keeps things clean.
Awesome!
Thank you so much! Best of luck with the renovation - sounds amazing!!
Oh my gosh yes! I was going to add that to the video but I wanted exactly 20 things! I might need to do a part 3 😊
Without even watching, something I don’t buy is Knick knacks because they are what I call dust collectors.
Agree!!
Use a special silicone grout sealer and NEVER have a discoloration issue! I did a complete bathroom teardown and redo with floor to ceiling tile and white grout...over 15 years ago - grout still looks like the day I 'sealed' it!
Cool, thank you for sharing!
I had tile put in my large laundry room. I don't know what they put in the grout but it is so easy to clean. I think there must be a sealer or something in it. It's smooth and cleans as easy as the tile.
I use a grout pen to whiten up my bathroom tile grouting.. fantastic...
I always wondered if grout sealers worked. Thanks for this 😊.
Thank you so much!!
What cleaning tab are you referring to that cleans a jetted tub?
Jetted tub.. unhygienic.
Fun video.
Awesome, thank you for sharing!!
Love my gas oven. Super easy to clean and doesn't scratch and discolor like glass/electric/induction
Awesome!
I recently redid my kitchen cabinet fronts and went with flat fronted doors for this very reason. All those little corners that you need to clean with a toothpick.
Great idea! The trim looks pretty but definitely need a tiny cleaning tool for it!
💯regretting my white grout for bathroom floor and tube decision!!!!
I use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Sponges for easily cleaning my stainless steel sink and even the sink grate. I have them on hand for scuff marks on my walls. But I also find them to be great to keep around my sink for keeping it clean and shiny.
Same, I love magic erasers!
Thank you for the filter tip! And what a great point about the open shelves and using them for your everyday dishes - now THAT I could see working!
So glad I found your channel! 😁
I hate to clean but I want a clean house.
Thank you for sharing and I'm so glad you are here!! 😊
You are sooooooooo spot on with absolutely everything. Thanks for the tips.
You are so welcome!
@@jacquelineteale4937 thanks. It’s a weird shape and no way to hang a curtain. I will try some different cleaners.
You are so welcome! 😊❤
I have stainless steel sink and I clean my sink every night as part of my cleaning the kitchen process every night. This one I don't see the issue.
Thank you for sharing!
Yup! Same here! It’s just part of cleaning my kitchen. 😊
You are so welcome, thank you for watching!! 😊❤️
I'll have to try that!
Thank you for doing Part 3 to never have in your homes video. You are a blessing! You said this is your last video in the series. I do hope you will do more "never have feature is your home if you hate cleaning" because these lists were so helpful!
I’m so glad!! I’ll definitely see about doing another one 😊
Grandma always used to say “How are you going to keep it clean?” I rolled my eyes. Now I get it. 😂😂😂
Right?! 😊
I love your no nonsense no fuss no sass style! On top of the rest!
Thank you!!
I have a 2 inch paint brush in my dusting tools. It works excellent on all small crevices, cracks & hard to get at spots…. Baseboards, cupboards doors, light fixtures, ornaments, fancy handles, etc…
I have always had ss sinks, with no issues. 🥰
Great tip!
Thanks for the warning on grommets!
So agree on the freestanding tub! And the outside gets SO dusty!
Also I think they are a falling hazard. Getting out of tub especially.
you just calmed my mind by bringing up wood with any kind of details in it! When i see a awesome carved coffee table or whatnot, my immediate 2nd thought is going to be forget about keeping that clean or even dust free!
Right? Those intricate carved pieces are so pretty but dust magnets for sure :)
I loathe curtains with grommets and I use a hoover with soft brush to clean basketware
Thank you for sharing :)
I can recommend a ligth brown stone like sink. I have it since ages and are so happy with it.
Oooh thanks for the recommendation!
So true, thank you for sharing!
Yes, glass top preferred!😅
I live in an 1892 house. I renovated with subway tile so I researched what would have been used. I found out that originally used concrete for the grout. I used a concrete colored grout and it works wonderfully. Doesn’t discolor and doesn’t show mold or mildew.
Great idea!
May l add to your list? Any lampshade that is made of fabrics, papers, or is damaged by water! Buy lamps with
metals, or glass shades. Glass can be colored, frosted, bubbled, filtered w designs. Beautiful! And you can WASH them in warm water!
Love it, Marcia! Such a good one!
If you have fabric lampshades, use a lint roller to clean them. Works great and doesn't smush dust into the fabric. For the parts around trim that the roller can't reach, tear off a sheet.
A clean microfiber works great to remove dust, and occasionally vacuume them
I have two beautiful pleated fabric lampshades, and I use the fabric attachment on my vacuum cleaner to clean them twice a year.
You are so welcome!!
Thank you for sharing!
Binge watching- these videos are amazing thank you!
Thank you so much!
1000% would rather have a glass shower door than a shower curtain
100% with you on gas stoves. No problems here keeping stainless steel sink clean. We have both.
Good to know!
I have had white grout in my kitchen backsplash. I guess it was sealed when it was installed five years ago. My husband and I both cook frequently...and I just use a wet sponge to wipe off the tile and its grout. It is still white.
That is awesome!
Thank you for sharing!
As somebody with adhd this is an extremely helpful video.
I'm so glad!
I use a small paint brush to clean my baskets.
Great tip!
What baskets? I don't understand? Thank you, k

That’s really interesting about metal window frames. I was considering them but as I leave in a humid zone they are def out!
Maybe look into it more - in my research people really dislike the condensation :)
I have the curtains with grommets and i wash them in a regular washer and tumble dry them. Thry come out perfect. The grommets dont scratch the dryer.
Great!
Okay, about the counters with edges: maybe the little backsplash shelf is unnecessary, but the outside edge I LOVE on mine. Maybe I am clumsy, but there are countless times spills did not drip down the counter onto my cabinets because that edge is there. I love it!!!
A great point!
I couldn‘t agree more!
Thank you!
I can relate to the last one, mine is also a clothes rack and the older I get the more difficult it is to get in and out of. When I do use it, I clean it before getting out. I clean my ss sink with Vim, also pots and pans, some I've had for 30 years and they still look good.
Awesome!
A product called Stonetech - Revitalizer Cleaner and Protector, easily cleans grout, tile, and stone - a wonderful product.
Thank you for sharing!
Hi Taryn Maria. What kind of kitchen sinks do you recommend for an easy clean up? Thank you in advance.
Hi! I think there are a lot of great options - I have a black composite granite sink that I love but I have also heard there are some higher grade stainless steel sinks that people really love and say are super easy to clean and look nice!
Good food for thought here! Thank you! I do agree with the open shelving! Never really thought it was a good idea to see ALL your items.
For sure! And I know my open shelves would always look like a mess :)
Try a Rachiele stainless sink w a matte finish. No problem. Quality anything is usually easier to keep looking fabulous.
Thanks for the tip!
Grout comes in hundreds of colors. They all have one thing in common, they all turn gray with time. Save time, cleaner and aggravation. Chose gray grout to start, It’s not as cute but you won’t be sorry.
Yes!!! We have gray grout in our house mostly and I thought it was so dreary when we moved in...but NOW I get it! 😊
Thank you for sharing!! ☺
If you have grouted tile anywhere paint on a grout protector/sealer. Keeps grout from getting dirty by repelling dirt. Just paint it on the grout with a brush. Won’t stain the tile if you get any on it so it’s not a fussy project.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing :)
I can't bear stainless steel anything 😅
I love the look of it but the upkeep -whew! My fridge is constantly full of handprints from my 7 year old :)
After cleaning stainless, try a ceramic coating to prevent fingerprints/ handprints.
Thanks very helpful for our home remodel
I’m so glad!
Awesome, thank you!
You must have very soft water.
I use vinegar with a few drops of essential oil (lemon grass or lavender are nice) and spray after showering. Glass door looks wonderful! Yes, we do have a water softener also
We have hard water. Wiping it down each time and no problems at all
