Miles of Portraits: India follows the bike touring journey of Annalisa van den Bergh and Erik Douds (me) through Southern India. The series documents the people we meet through portrait photography and adventure filmmaking.
The 1,000km route started and ended in Kochi, one of the most southern cities in India. Listening to advice from people we meet, our ride climbs up into the hills of Munnar and Ooty, north towards Mysore, and eventually heads south down the western coast.
This is the fourth series for Miles of Portraits following the Trans America Trail, Alaska, and America's Southwest. It is the first international bike touring trip for us.

Draw a 1,000km route to take one day. Where does it start and end? I could use some inspiration for post-lockdown
Hey,I am happy that you enjoyed visiting here,I am from Kerala❤️
Kerala is awesome - especially in the mountain regions. I really liked Kotagiri (if I am spelling that correctly)
@@ErikDouds Am happy to hear that😄
I did that in 1995 started Mysore did a big loop through south India back to Mysore ,no maps ,no gps ,no phone
I'm really looking forward to the film! I live in Kerala with my husband and we've been planning to do a cycling trip here. But just thinking about the traffic gives me so much anxiety! 😭
Loved the Munnar view though 😊
We became famous for writing about using a pool noodle to keep cars away in America. Google, "The best cycling hack is a pool noodle." India we felt relatively safe because people are used to busy roads. However, public buses can be scary
@@ErikDouds oh I just read the article. Great hack indeed :)
Having cycled only in Finland, India is a different langue altogether for me. Kerala bus drivers are the craziest!
Awesome video, love 🇮🇳

Stay safe .. ♥️
2:21 no ..women have all the freedom in the world (according to indian costitution) but in villages its not implemented properly . I LIVE IN CITY AND HV MORE FREEDOM THAN ANY AVG AMERICAN WOMAN ..AND IVE BN TO USA ...SO ITS NOT LIKE THAT ALL INDIAN WOMEN DREAM OF BECOMING US CITIZENS ..WE LOVE OUR INDIA ... it sounded so condescending
What would you want to tell these girls who live in a village and not a city?
people born and raised in US are told that america is dreamland and there is nothing beyond it. Even few pictures that they use in books to portray the other culture or religions is horrible !
people who have completed just basic education in US dont know much about education in nordic countries, western european healthcare, asian culture.
So nice 😍 brother ....I am also a cyclist and want to ride with you
That was a soothing vlog and I find that your choice of music for your vlogs is great! Where did you guys rest at nights?
We mostly stayed in home-stays, AirBNB, or used a cycling network called "Warmshowers." A big difference of this trip is that we did not camp one night.
@@ErikDouds wow. Seems like an awesome adventure.

Hey folks, check out another attempt at vlogging our first bike pack trip.. Here it is.. Lucknow (India) to Nepal ua-cam.com/video/PMm4mRCe1fE/v-deo.html
did that in 1995
call it kerala trip, Not south india trip
i didnt actually see any bikepacking in india..
You are brave cycling in India
The bravest part is chasing your dreams.
Bro do u know victor zicho?
Nope, but his Instagram looks sweeet! Looking like he rides a recumbent, probably nice for long tours.
Honestly people should stop using cheesy "american " in every video in india videos.
Women don't have freedom in Kerala? What the .... Kerala and Assam are matriarchal societies
There are definitely cultural differences I observed, but tried to make the edit as direct from the voices of Kerala out to the world. The full film(s) should provide a more full context.
Not everyone , but just calling “Edi” and asking them to shut up is a common practice as far as I have seen
Women's do have some freedom but it's restricted to towns and cities. when u visit a countryside u might feel the freedom of women being lost and it's due lack of education in the rural areas.
India is a disgrace, I am still waiting for lockdown to end so that I can leave. I could have left in 14th May but I'm in Kolkata 😫 not New Delhi.
