  • With their white bark birch trees are one of the most recognizable trees in northern regions. They stand out so much amongst their darker rivals that one has to wonder: Why? What is so special about their white bark and do they really need it?
That's what we are going to answer in this episode of Facts in Motion. Enjoy!

This was a bit of a fun project. I wanted to see if I can make an interesting and successful video about - TREES. Now, you decide if it was interesting but I doubt that this video will be overly successful - I think the topic isn't clickable enough - but it would certainly be funny.

Amazing video. Over the past 5 years a Balsam Poplar tree grew beside my house where we abandoned gardening. It literally popped out of nowhere and now stands about 20 feet tall. These are fast growing trees and thought this was how forests form with these taking over a spot and eventually other tree species would come to take their place. These things are starting to pop up all over the place and thinking to put them in an area to grow a natural tree wall because these things grow so fast.

I thought this was interesting. Birch trees just happen to be my favorite because I live pretty far south in the US and they are absolutely beautiful at any time of year. It's cool to think that my favorite tree could save my life someday too.

Don't know about west, but here in eastern europe we gather up birch juice every spring for drinking. It's a healthy beverage which is very sweet and almost like water when it's fresh and sour when you leave it for a longer time untouched - depends on the person's individual taste. Didn't see anyone post this, so I figured that I should share. :)

This was actually very helpful. I tend to do a lot of worldbuilding and developing ecosystems and landscapes for fantasy worlds that tend to have some sort of realism in terms of their ecology. Now I have another thing I can use to indicate why some landscapes have white trees.
