  • Composer Florence Price broke musical barriers in the classical music realm. Despite enduring discrimination and prejudice, she achieved the historic feat of becoming the first African American woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra. In June 1933, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra premiered her Symphony in E Minor. On her birthday today, we invite you to listen to this remarkable work, performed by The U.S. Army Band.
