Florence Price, Symphony in E Minor

Composer Florence Price broke musical barriers in the classical music realm. Despite enduring discrimination and prejudice, she achieved the historic feat of becoming the first African American woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra. In June 1933, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra premiered her Symphony in E Minor. On her birthday today, we invite you to listen to this remarkable work, performed by The U.S. Army Band.
