At 46:20 , when he makes reference to not getting the big head, and thinking he's better than anyone else. Having known Greg personally for almost 30 years, I can honestly say, he is the one of the most down to earth, helpful people I know.
+djdanger1969 Yup! My parents as we speak are in his studio. Month or so ago my dad(who was a HUGE dj fanatic back in his day and idolized Greg) met Greg. And he is humble and funny as could be. Like I said it, you'd never know he is famous if you just bumped into him.
I've commented on his stuff just as a fan on Facebook, and he's always interacted with me, even got a signed record for Xmas from him once! Love me some EL
yeah it is kind of weird... because this interviewer looks very uncomfortable and timid.... they probably should have a more interested or enthusiasm person
Agreed :q. He seems nervous, and it doesn't help when Egyptian Lover is so smooth fun and charismatic, you gotta have a interviewer who can match that.
Everyone there are not old enough and were not around in the 80's but they wont realize how things were. You have to be a pioneer. I was in highschool mobile DJ'in with 3 different crews. He was supreme, and Dre was in a different crew before NWA..10th, 11, 12th grade..good times..
+stillphil If it wasn;t redbull we would here this story in another way, in other place, whatever! The logo there doesn't make me want to buy it anyway)))
I think the host is a good example of what happens eventually to one who drinks red bull - at some point not even red bull will make you move, the crushdown
It’s hard to be a freak in the modern age.. there’s too many freaks who are offended and want to be accepted as “normal”. No heat on the interviewer (obviously not a freak).. But Egyptian lover was as smooth and genuine as one could ever hope for! What a legend.
I too was a young DJ in that era. Many fun times. I didn’t know him personally but I knew people who knew him, Joe Cooley, Tim Young and BobCat to name a few. I lived on the WestSide and they would come to my house to watch me get down. They would give me tips and I succeeded to the point where my dad had to purchase 1200’s and a GLI mixer. I was was doing high school lunch dances and proms at the age of 15. I’m so glad he used the term “ triple thread.” There is also “ thousand thread.” A real Dj would know this
I am so glad this popped up!! I was one of those freaks that was dancing on the floor at the Metro in Baton Rouge La in 1988 and you mesmerized me. I love me some Egyptian Lover❤❤❤ long time listener and fan for life!!!
Really glad to see him do a complete 360 in his success. What a story. I brought one of the few copies in the UK to Dial a Freak and was hooked. Totally fresh and innovative. Back then Egypt Egypt came out in England first. Just wish I was in that audience cos those punks look like they had not a clue of your experience back in the day.
100% Pure Legend!!! My homie GMS used to mix The Egyptian Lover's records and every time his songs would come on, the whole crowd would go CRAZY! Then, GMS would scratch during the breaks and everyone would love their mind! That whole Egyptian Electro sound is so dope!!!! I love this interview!
This man is a Legend. My first 12 inch vinyl purchases was My Beat Goes Boom by Egyptian Lover. We were barely teenagers and would travel to San Francisco and Berkeley California record shops in the City to get the latest electro and new hip hop flava! My buddy was spoiled and would drop 300 on records in one day back then.
Been a fan of E.L since beginning of 85 since I first heard Egypt Egypt on a french radio broadcast and it truely blew out my mind, and whole the 80's E.L was my # one DJ artist at the time. But unfortunately his sound wasn't the same for me after the 80's, the golden age had passed.
wow! growing up in LA, I met the Lover at a Ralph's parking lot and he might have signed a record or something for us. #1 would love to meet him again and say hello!
"I agree vinyl has its original sound I could feel very beat as a former DJ," PlayACE ."Egyptian Lover found the freaks by his sound really smart dude."
I was totally unaware of the homie. I was alive then but never heard him until later. I'm from NYC which could be why. I'm a huge Prince fan and I love Electro. Marriage made in LA
1980s i was mixn on double cassette tape boom boxes and using pause alot, i got good enough to just slightly touch the pause to make it drag so there were no clicks between songs. Destroyed so many boom boxes. 📻
Egyptian lover is the best. I dreamt last night of a video clip, a remix of Egyptian Lover in cyberafrofuturist Cairo and LA, staring Rami Malek, who has a great speaking voice by the way and would make it peanut. Full package.
This Egyptian lover seems like a very talented and down to earth type of guy. He is cool, would not mind kicking it with him. However, I still kind of cringe at this interview because that interviewer looks so aloof and insular like he is just there to get paid to record the interview. Would have been better if the interviewer showed more interest and enthusiasm.
If I had 1 thing that I could have it would be. To ha ng out with you when your spinning the wax. Grew up in cali my older brother was dj the sound system was are name . But one day my dad came home a d told us Rico mike u have to hear this stereo in a van up at our shop. Corbys collision auto body well Lonng story short. A nd my beat goes boom. Well ut was a Fosgate van. 10 000 watts n 4 15s. Aaahhhh. Your feelings come threw in your abilities to make people dance a d ha e a good time. Props sir your #1 I will have a record of Egypt Egypt in my grave with me to pass on a d play in a other world.

Uggghhhhh, I can't take it! This host has the energy of a Lima Bean!

Awestruck and grateful.
Egyptian Lover started it ALL for me.
Egyptian Lover is the real freakaholic - love this guy
This is the kind of episode you get when the artist OWNS their product! No deleted songs.
Everyone there are not old enough and were not around in the 80's but they wont realize how things were. You have to be a pioneer. I was in highschool mobile DJ'in with 3 different crews. He was supreme, and Dre was in a different crew before NWA..10th, 11, 12th grade..good times..

Wake up breugh.
I was thinking the same thing.
+stillphil If it wasn;t redbull we would here this story in another way, in other place, whatever!

Egyptian Lover got massive confidence. Making the white dude look like a fool.
Mitchem Callahan the “white dude” is just a poor interviewer
Everything about this interview is awesome!
And thank you for your contributions to dance music as well!

that real spit
True love from here since day one for THE one and only originator of serious US electro boogie. And so much fun to listen to him enjoying himself.
Toby did a pretty good job doing the interview. Big ups Egyptian Lover. Baddest electro artist
The engineer / mixer is the real genius here
100% Pure Legend!!! My homie GMS used to mix The Egyptian Lover's records and every time his songs would come on, the whole crowd would go CRAZY! Then, GMS would scratch during the breaks and everyone would love their mind! That whole Egyptian Electro sound is so dope!!!! I love this interview!

Love it! Great interview!
EL always has the best come backs. 😂
He was a helluva DJ...
I forgot 2Live came from LA. I remember that first NWA cassette that had Ice T and 2Live on it so I started classifying them as NWA members.
1980s i was mixn on double cassette tape boom boxes and using pause alot, i got good enough to just slightly touch the pause to make it drag so there were no clicks between songs. Destroyed so many boom boxes. 📻

I would like to know what Egypt thought of Unknown DJ's claim to be the master of the 808?
Damn, that song, the battleram
This Egyptian lover seems like a very talented and down to earth type of guy. He is cool, would not mind kicking it with him. Great comments from EL, but you can tell the interviewer didn't grow up in the era as he seems disinterested throughout
Very bad host, good questions but no passion.
i agree
+Dana R. The charisma ratio between EL and the other guy is about 10000:1
JUL IEN he got lucky to have such a brilliant host with a good sense of humor
Sounds like the host needs a red bull ..or is that his mack mode voice? 😅
Oh! fucking Gee
