Definitely natural light. It’s what I use predominantly when shooting macro in the field. Occasionally I might add a bit of LED fill light if it’s particularly dark or too many shadows. It may be stating the obvious, but if you removed the flash and diffuser you’d get a lot more ambient light on your subject.
It depends on the effect you're going for, some I liked with flash and others I'd go for Natural light.
I prefer the natural light images as they all contained more depth of color and contrast. In my opinion the flash images looked just like they were flashed.
I think natural light won every time, the flash tended to make things look flat and in 5:05 everything had a green color (maybe the white hood bounced green colors across the whole scene?).
I'd be curious to see how off-camera flash would compare, since you'd be able to control the distance & direction of light.

I liked the natural light most of the time, but both have their uses!
Interesting experiment. It looks like both are good options under the right circumstances.
Natural light is best for fungi, lichens etc, anything that's not moving, try a reflecter, it may surprise you, a simple thing like cooking foil stuck to a piece of cardboard can make a big difference. 👍

Excellent video jamie,I preferred the natural light in all images except the last as the flash seemed to bring out the colours in the wood better but that is just my opinion,we all know 100 people will see an image 100 different ways..lol keep up the good work and looking forward to your next video.

Half looked better with flash, half looked better with natural light
No question natural light images were better and have the added benefit of being more authentic.
