As an animator, I just want to say that Thoma's clap is different than Kaeya's since so many people seem to think it's the same thing in the comments. The timing of the clap is different, the weight is different, the angle of the hands, finger animations are completely different, basically, everything's different other than having the right hand go towards the left hand in clapping. Kaeya's clap is slow and sarcastic even, while Thoma's clapping is enthusiastic. This is obviously not reused, because one, reuse means you literally copy and paste the same animation, which is not the case here. Second, Kaeya's clap is very sloppy and there are many crashing in geometry and sliding going on upon his hands' contact. Now looking back, it'd very awful...but I get that's because it was the beginning of the production so they don't have much time or money to waste in cutscenes. That is not the case in Thoma's clap, which has firm contact, proper weight and drags in his fingers according to the speed.
You can argue they just took Kaeya's clap and changed it, but would you seriously take a half-baked animation and waste time changing it when it's faster to make a new one? The only thing they could take from Kaeya's clap is the way his right-hand goes towards his left one. And the most you can reuse is keyframes (poses) because the animation speed of clap is completely different. And for those curious how long it'll take to pose out the clapping motion of hands, 5 minutes max. That is literally how long it'll take. Anyone needing more than five minutes to pose out two simple poses for the hands would have to be fresh out of school and has no idea what they're doing. I don't know if there's anyone dumb enough to waste their time and headache copying the animation and going through the headache of fixing it while cursing the original animator in their head, but if there are, kudos to them. But even so, that will no longer be qualified as reuse.
