Update; they announced they wouldn’t auction off any of the items
They should Not be sold period! They belonged to America's greatest President! Debt or No Debt, Mr. Lincoln would not want his Belongings sold. Have some respect !
@Rad JNope. wrong... and u will find out one day Maybe u will be able to apologize to him but u will prob have to wait in line.
You know if we can give millions to other countries, we can help this museum out
By we you mean we’re paying taxes and the country is kinda forced to give millions away since we still owe debut to other countries that helped America out in ww2
@@Ruebenbayona Would not surprise me if we were still paying WWII debt. I was really talking about the money will give away now, to countries who hate us. Or like the millions of dollars to put up illegals in motels. When the wall should be built and people should come in this country the way they do every where else
@@kathryncarter6143 you are right, we can help everybody else, but not our elderly, veterans or our people. We have kids here thinking there is no future, when we have people beating our doors down to get here
The idea of these priceless artifacts of Mr. Lincoln being sold to private collectors is appalling. There are enough wealthy Americans in our country who step forward to prevent these artifacts from leaving the museum where the are cared for and protected for posterity.
If I had the money I would save it. You would think the federal government could help look at all the money they gave Iraq, Afghanistan to just name a few .
All of his items belong in the Smithsonian! This is a travesty!
I was wondering the same thing! Why.? Its like the swamp is showing their disdain even here.
I have heard that the Smithsonian isn't that reliable in displaying donations and some things disappear. They have something like 68 huge warehouses full of things people will never see. So maybe that has something to do with it.
Not all belong there. He's from Illinois, we should have something here for us to visit. They have enough, in addition to a pew from from my church as the 1st black church established in Chicago at Smithsonian
When I was a small child we visited the Detroit museum where Abraham Lincoln's rocking chair was on display. Back in the day you could sit in it and my teacher asked if anyone wanted to sit in the chair, and I was the only one who raised my hand. I felt a chill the moment I sat down in the chair, and I was beaming ear to ear. I still remember the day as if it was yesterday and the feeling I felt when I sat in the chair such energy came from this one piece of furniture. I always felt a connection to Abraham Lincoln and I have read every book I could find on this president.
There has to be a wealthy man somewhere with a soul. This museum needs help.
The thing is many would prob want the asset but allow the museum to still present it but in the end it is their item now in case they need to scramble for money
“Not any mismanagement of funds” Ma’am you owe $9.7 million dollars 😭😭
To quote Indiana Jones: It belongs in a museum!
So grateful that someone thought to save these items, back in 1865, so future admirers can see them!
I was there a couple of months ago and that place is amazing
They should go to his great great grandson Ralph C Lincoln
Robert Todd Beckwith was the last of the Lincoln's, and he died in 1985, and had no children
Ralph Lincoln is not directly related to Abraham. The last direct descendant died in the 1980’s.
Please don't !
My Favorite one is his tall top hat🎩
To quote Dr. Jones: That belongs in a museum.
I bet the government saved his DNA from that gloves!
Yes, they said "While we do not have the technology to ressurect Lincoln, perhaps one day at a place called Jurassic Park, a madman with a amber-topped cane will create Mr. Lincoln again. This time as a "Velocaham""-President Washington
They had BETTER NOT be auctioned off. The Federal Government needs these items protected as if they were our national parks. They are as sacred as the Statue of Liberty or Mount Rushmore.
just get bill gates or steve bezos to buy it. heck, $9mill is literally lunch money to those dudes.
The thought of priceless pieces of history being tucked away in some persons private collection for god knows how long is ridiculous.
1:11 How come you made it seem like Lincoln didn't pay his debts when he was alive and well? As it turns out the Museum bought TOO much EXPENSIVE Lincoln stuff on a loan and couldn't pay it on time. Lincoln can't catch a break, the museum botched things.
The hat alone is worth more than a million, it’s iconic
This is beyond absurd. These Presidential, Historical items belong to the People of the
United States.💕🇺🇸💕 Pres. Lincoln's personal effects shouldn't be auctioned off, only to be seen by a chosen few behind closed doors.
Please tell me this Debt was paid and these items didn’t leave Springfield!
The debt is in the process of being paid. They have until Oct, 2022 to pay it back. No items have been dold
Thank you
(I know it’s not good to give out my personal name on social media. But it is needed for my story) my names William mudd. My great great great great grandfather Samuel mudd was the doctor of John Wilkes booth. After Lincoln’s assassination he was out on trial and was sentenced to death. But then a turn in his trial and was sentenced to life. Then another president of the untied states pardoned him. He passed in 1883. Just thought it was crazy I had some relation to Abraham.
@@nickc8729 because while booth was fleeing after he killed Lincoln he got injured and the doctor (my ancestor) helped him without knowing he killed Lincoln and for this he was locked up but then pardoned. there’s lots of history about it on google. Pretty interesting
Ok, I never heard that part, that is pretty interesting, (also a pretty cool name, reminds me of that song " Mr Mudd & Mr Gold") 👍
I’ve seen stuff with less historical value go for millions of dollars on the Pawn Stars show. That would be insane if they got less than 9 million dollars for Lincoln’s hat.
Lincoln hat appraised by “a buddy of mine who knows about this stuff....mind if I give him a call?” Hat appraised for 7 million bucks. Pawn star employee: Now how much do you really want for it? I’m thinking $32.56. I mean it’s going to sit in my store and take up space and that price he quoted was full retail. So do we have a deal?
Think Government should step in and get those items. so they can keep the items safe and put on display.
Any update on this?
Uh...lets go over the books...how many 1st class tickets were purchased etc.You just don't come up 9million in the hole overnight.
No Mismanagement, yea right story of America
Can't we get a DNA sample of those blood stained gloves?
Does anyone know what happened to thoses items?
Reading other comments. Yes was our greatest president and needs to be remembered and honored as such.
Did they go to auction
It’s been years now, what happened with all this
50 yrs ago I touched and visually examined Lincoln’s blood. It was a moment I will never forget.
Maybe if they put those items out for view instead of hidden away in a vault, the museum would get more paying visitors to tour the museum.
Update?
I miss it…
😪
So, I wonder what happened to the collection?
This stuff need to be in Lincoln family members not in museum
What a crock! The items should in the Smithsonian!
Update???
This should not be sold...it should be in a museum for all to see!....not in some rich guys closet!
What happened with the update report for the news 📰
I wish I could have it all
These artifacts should not be in the possession of any private person or organization. But rather, in the possession of the Smithsonian Institution.
How odd that our billionaire president at the time didn’t jump on helping out his favorite president.
"As people called out, ""Good evening Mr. Lincoln"", he donned that hat"! WHAT? That's nonsense. He would have tipped his hat. Donned means "to put on".
Call mckenzie bezos, I heard she has a lil extra money to spare
Too much greed in this country right😂😁😣😥😝🤕😭
Maybe they should investigate why there is such a shortfall.
Seriously? Priceless artifacts sold off? As Indiana Jones put it best they belong in a museum.
*run*
So you spent 23 million and didn't even have a plan to pay the bill? What was the point in even acquiring them to simply sell them off, because of lack of foresight on the museums part? SMH
Tony Leone was speaking the truth!
SADDD AF
President Abraham Lincoln's personal possessions up for grabs and going to the highest bidder. Release his possessions to the White House for protection and have these items placed on display. I have only one possession which was given to Abraham Lincoln when he was in office, and I was planning to donate it to the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Illinois now I have changed my mind if it is only going to go up for auction. Its a Rococo Revival G. Silver filigree box inscribed: 1862 Sept 22 "To Abraham Lincoln By John C. Buttre
The idea of them now going to family of lincoln instead of ever being sold. I am a relative and would prefer they stay with family than ever in unaware hands.
Who ever is the president of Lincoln cars can buy each item and have an displayed in the building or dealerships
This was a marketing stunt lol
Auctioneers should be ashamed of themselves!!!!! This is an embarrassment!!!😢😢😢😢
Omg this 1920
Our Government museums won't buy these items? Maybe fake..
Right his stuff and should not be sold off the museum she stay open should not have to have donations or anything like that the government should be paying for it
How can you put a price on those items. The things that man stood for and they ignore today. No such thing as justice for all.
“We would encourage them to not view it as a bailout but rather as an opportunity to give back to the man who's done so much for us.” -Dr. Carla Knorowski
What a muppet.
Were they able to raise enough funds to save the artifacts?
Illinois should pony up the money to keep these things in the state and where everyone can see them. No one person should own them.
What happened? Did they sell?
They reached a loan extension agreement with Lake Forest Bank & Trust that now matures Oct. 31, 2022.
It should never sell, because it is a history and it should be remind in museum.
I would love to have fan !!!
Any new
THIS IS PAWAN FROM INDIA WOULD YOU GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL I WANT TO GIVE YOU SOME SUGGESTION ABOUT ABRAHAM LINCOLN THINGS
Yea but the people or persons buying all that stuff will take just as good of care of it im sure. Just won't be public
I saw Lincoln's Top Hat when the Smithsonian came to Portland Oregon with my father probably back in the 90s for 2000s anyway I was about 12 inches away from Lincoln's Top Hat face to face and I'm a privateer with the USS Ironwood Astoria Oregon turnpoint Job Corps back in 2007 I have a merchant mirror campaign on my page
That’s sick (show him some respect ✊)
Bad management..
These things are important to history they play a very significant role they should be donated to the White House curators or the Smithsonian Institute.
The items should be sold because then private collectors and members of the American public will have a chance to own them instead of them sitting in a vault at the library and held there forever and never put on display. I have seen this happen again and again. Rare items from a historical figure donated to a library or institution for the public to see and the items are permanently kept in boxes because "the library has a staff shortage right now and the collection is being held in a vault until funds become available to be able to catalog the collection first." You notice all the materials related to Lincoln in that vault. Only "verified researchers" are ever given access to it or someone working at the library makes the decision of exactly what will be placed on public display and that is usually less than 1% of the collection. Be happy when these institutions are forced to sell these items because then members of the public can buy them and see them and they are not permanently kept in a vault for " qualified researchers" only.
In their defense, i understand they have to climate control and security. And yes some billionaire could step up to help
Someone should buy it and sell it for twice as much and if they don't get the money they will burn it
Should be illegal to sell these items!!! Should never leave the museum!!!
TOTAL CROOKERY led to that financial mess. To break up the collection will be a greedy sin. Not NICE😒👎🏽👎👎🏽👎👎🏽
Where's his axe?
They need to do some research prior to looking like idiots. The gloves were not in the presidents pocket, they were on his hands and well documented as being so.
Sell it, sell it now!
Start a go fund me page.
I will take some of them!! I am a first cousin 5X removed. Keep it in the family!!
As a Democrat my opinion he is one of the greatest presidents in our country's history
Haven’t these people ever heard of GRANT money????
National Treasures should not be sold to gain profits to pay debts off... Investigate mismanagement of fund within the organization!
If all this sells to some private collectors. We the people could possibly never see this again. Its a shame. Its just not right.....Again money seems to be more important.
No
Knowing that we have his blood and fingerprints, how long till we have cloning technology and can clone Lincoln?
Wow… that should never have been allowed to happen… selling off American history…
This world constantly disappoints me…
I’d wear that hat 🎩
Give the assassination poster to Rick Harrison, he was drooling to buy an original one in one episode of Pawn Stars, lol
It seems like something that would belong to a government sanctuary and not a private museum
