    Fantastic review and comparisons.
I always have a bottle or two of Aberlour in my cabinet. At the moment it happens to be the 18 and the A'bunadh Alba.
As far as "Value for money", it would be hard to find a bottling comparable to this 16 year old. I love the Glenfarclas 17 and the Bushmills 16, but they're more $$.
If not for the "Sherry" influence, my "Value for money" 15 year old would be the Glen Scotia 15.

The newer Glen Scotia 15 bottling have been lacking in my opinion - I hope I just had a bad two bottles

Great review! With you on the Aberlour 16, beautifully integrated. Glenallachie good but overrated, might improve over the years once Billy Walker’s distillate starts coming into play. Glendronach the reverse and does seem to be slightly deteriorating, but I still have a fondness for it. Aberlour and Mortlach 16 would be my recommendations albeit not overpriced for this age range sherry cask.

Mortlach 16 is a totally different "beast" in my opinion

I have a Whisky Exchange Single Barrel Aberlour 16. It's massive proof first fill oloroso and all good stuff. It's a Mega Aberlour which I'll open one day. I'm not keen on the Glenallechie 15 which I think is overrated. I'm so glad that you drink crap for our benefit but I'm equally glad that you land a good one. Raising the price is what they do.

    Hi Jason
Hope you are doing well, I just watched 👀 your review on 3 whiskeys, I almost agree with you on all 3 but I think for me at least, the aberlour 16 is not a contender in the bracket, the glenallachie 15year and the glendronach 15year old stands above and beyond aberlour, in fact I don't care for the aberlour 16 double cask. I love the 2 formentioned whiskeys alot better, but we know taste is subjective, I love your reviews and try to watch ⌚ all of them, cheers sir and keep the great videos coming !!!

Haven’t had the 16 but my favourite aberlour is the 15 select cask, which isn’t being made anymore, shame. Good video Jason.

I can buy it for 95 USD, I guess that is pretty good. Do they make a 16 that is 46%? I know most of their line up is 43% though.
I don't recommend that Glendronach 15 at all anymore. I have the latest batch and I think it is not nearly as good as what it used to be. I have a bottle open and I never pour it, just disappointment in a glass. When they first started to come out with the 15 again that was the time to buy them. Now they are not nearly as good, cask quality is clearly down.
If you can still find it the old BenRiach 20 is really great esp if you can see that Billy Walker signature below the barrel. To be honest I think most sherried stuff I have started to avoid, I prefer xbourbon or any other casks. I avoid Rum finished whisky but other then that. I like to see when I pour out a dram and it has a light color, does not bother me a bit.

Sounds like a home run! I have recently tried the Aberlour Casg Annamh and really enjoyed it--have you tried the Casg Annamh?

The only online retailer in Bulgaria that has this 16 yo Aberlour, asks for roughly 112 euros. I bet it would never be sold but the premium single malts are not what those ignorant people make their money from anyway. And ignorant they are, because selling a bottle at a price double of that in Germany is nothing else. It is most probably from parallel import, travel retail or God knows where. So far I've tasted the 18 yo when it was in 0.7 l bottles and the A'Bunadh. Now I'm having the 12 yo non chill filterred on the radar.
    Cheers!

ouch 112€ - is too much

@@WhiskyJason1 You don't say. Whisky retailers in Bulgaria are mostly ignorants. They sell cheap booze and this is what makes their living. If it was for single malt scotch they would be starving or out of business. Now when it comes to some brand with official importer/distributor retailers just get what is available, put their margin above the wholesale price and voila. In this particular case, the Aberlour 16 has not come through official distributor to the retailer but God knows where. So the ignorant retailer has no price baseline and is too lazy to check the prices of some big retailers in Germany for example. And bam - 112 euros.
Of course, there are exceptions, but few and far between.
      Cheers!

A year late to the party, sorry, but: Aberlour 16, 40%-only in NZ, is 91-102 euros today. Not sure how much it crept up in the last 1-2 years. At those prices and abv I'll leave it.

      what would you buy instead?

A friend poured the Aberlour 14, 40%, which had nice flavours that somewhat reminded me of Highland Park (floral/honey) but pretty thin and disappointing. I was tempted to try the 12 ncf 46%, but just when I was about to pull the trigger the price shot up (~20%) into "yeah-nah" territory. Likewise with the Casg Annamh. I asked a local online retailer which batch they had (4) and they promptly deleted their listing at a "possible" pricing and replaced it with a considerably higher one (~50%), the "excuse" being that they had 1L rather than 700ml bottle(s).
I have sprung for A'Bunadh (as yet unopened), and it remains not too unreasonable in price particularly if (briefly) promoted, but one has to be pretty selective re. batch. Price is probably just about to go up a fair whack (>30%?) from the looks of pricing in the UK.
The Alba was stocked in NZ maybe 2 years ago, but now long gone.
